    Perturbation of an Eigen-Value from a Dense Point Spectrum : An Example

    We study a perturbed Floquet Hamiltonian K+βVK+\beta V depending on a coupling constant β\beta. The spectrum σ(K)\sigma(K) is assumed to be pure point and dense. We pick up an eigen-value, namely 0∈σ(K)0\in\sigma(K), and show the existence of a function λ(β)\lambda(\beta) defined on I⊂RI\subset\R such that λ(β)∈σ(K+βV)\lambda(\beta) \in \sigma(K+\beta V) for all β∈I\beta\in I, 0 is a point of density for the set II, and the Rayleigh-Schr\"odinger perturbation series represents an asymptotic series for the function λ(β)\lambda(\beta). All ideas are developed and demonstrated when treating an explicit example but some of them are expected to have an essentially wider range of application.Comment: Latex, 24 pages, 51

    Quantum Mutual Information Capacity for High Dimensional Entangled States

    High dimensional Hilbert spaces used for quantum communication channels offer the possibility of large data transmission capabilities. We propose a method of characterizing the channel capacity of an entangled photonic state in high dimensional position and momentum bases. We use this method to measure the channel capacity of a parametric downconversion state, achieving a channel capacity over 7 bits/photon in either the position or momentum basis, by measuring in up to 576 dimensions per detector. The channel violated an entropic separability bound, suggesting the performance cannot be replicated classically.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

    We review various unitary time-dependent perturbation theories and compare them formally and numerically. We show that the Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser technique performs better owing to both the superexponential character of correction terms and the possibility to optimize the accuracy of a given level of approximation which is explored in details here.     The SKA Particle Array Prototype: The First Particle Detector at the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory

    We report on the design, deployment, and first results from a scintillation detector deployed at the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory (MRO). The detector is a prototype for a larger array -- the Square Kilometre Array Particle Array (SKAPA) -- planned to allow the radio-detection of cosmic rays with the Murchison Widefield Array and the low-frequency component of the Square Kilometre Array. The prototype design has been driven by stringent limits on radio emissions at the MRO, and to ensure survivability in a desert environment. Using data taken from Nov.\ 2018 to Feb.\ 2019, we characterize the detector response while accounting for the effects of temperature fluctuations, and calibrate the sensitivity of the prototype detector to through-going muons. This verifies the feasibility of cosmic ray detection at the MRO. We then estimate the required parameters of a planned array of eight such detectors to be used to trigger radio observations by the Murchison Widefield Array.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, 3 table

    Antiferromagnetic ordering in a 90 K copper oxide superconductor

    Using elastic neutron scattering, we evidence a commensurate antiferromagnetic Cu(2) order (AF) in the superconducting (SC) high-Tc\rm T_c cuprate YBa2(Cu1−yCoy)3O7+δ\rm YBa_2(Cu_{1-y}Co_y)_3O_{7+\delta} (y=0.013, Tc\rm T_c=93 K). As in the Co-free system, the spin excitation spectrum is dominated by a magnetic resonance peak at 41 meV but with a reduced spectral weight. The substitution of Co thus leads to a state where AF and SC cohabit showing that the CuO2_2 plane is a highly antiferromagnetically polarizable medium even for a sample where Tc_c remains optimum.Comment: 3 figure

    Propagator of a Charged Particle with a Spin in Uniform Magnetic and Perpendicular Electric Fields

    We construct an explicit solution of the Cauchy initial value problem for the time-dependent Schroedinger equation for a charged particle with a spin moving in a uniform magnetic field and a perpendicular electric field varying with time. The corresponding Green function (propagator) is given in terms of elementary functions and certain integrals of the fields with a characteristic function, which should be found as an analytic or numerical solution of the equation of motion for the classical oscillator with a time-dependent frequency. We discuss a particular solution of a related nonlinear Schroedinger equation and some special and limiting cases are outlined.Comment: 17 pages, no figure

    Ni-substituted sites and the effect on Cu electron spin dynamics of YBa2Cu{3-x}NixO{7-\delta}

    We report Cu nuclear quadrupole resonance experiment on magnetic impurity Ni-substituted YBa2_2Cu3−x_{3-x}Nix_xO7−δ_{7-\delta}. The distribution of Ni-substituted sites and its effect on the Cu electron spin dynamics are investigated. Two samples with the same Ni concentration xx=0.10 and nearly the same oxygen content but different TcT_c's were prepared: One is an as-synthesized sample (7-δ\delta=6.93) in air (TcT_c≈80K\approx 80 K), and the other is a quenched one (7-δ\delta=6.92) in a reduced oxygen atmosphere (TcT_c≈70K\approx 70 K). The plane-site 63^{63}Cu(2) nuclear spin-lattice relaxation for the quenched sample was faster than that for the as-synthesized sample, in contrast to the 63^{63}Cu(1) relaxation that was faster for the as-synthesized sample. This indicates that the density of plane-site Ni(2) is higher in the quenched sample, contrary to the chain-site Ni(1) density which is lower in the quenched sample. From the analysis in terms of the Ni-induced nuclear spin-lattice relaxation, we suggest that the primary origin of suppression of TcT_c is associated with nonmagnetic depairing effect of the plane-site Ni(2).Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
