Who is responsible for health and safety of temporary workers? EU and UK perspectives

    Get PDF
There have been several attempts to provide certain protection to temporary agency workers at the EU level by Directive 91/383/EEC in respect of health and safety and most recently by Directive 2008/104/EC in respect of other working conditions. However, the precarious employment status of temporary workers has been a stumbling block in clear understanding of who owes duties and responsibilities for health and safe of these workers. By seeking to address this issue, the paper analyses the existing legal provisions relating to health and safety of temporary agency workers at the EU and UK levels in the context of a more general problem associated with the employment status of such workers, and suggests a number of alternatives to the existing legal regime which could potentially clarify the situation

An overview of aid effectiveness, determinants and strategies

    Get PDF
This paper provides an overview of issues relating to aid effectiveness. It argues that it is impossible to give a definitive answer to the question of whether aid is effective, and that it is more useful to ask what can be done to make aid more effective. The paper then groups the various determinants of aid effectiveness, as well as strategies to improve effectiveness, under three headings: the performance of the recipient (developing) country government; the performance of the aid agency of the donor (developed) country; and the interaction between the two. This provides, it is argued, a useful framework within which to understand different and competing arguments about how to improve aid effectiveness.aid, aid effectiveness

Calculation of the Structure Properties of Asymmetrical Nuclear Matter

In this paper the structure properties of asymmetrical nuclear matter has been calculated employing AV18 potential for different values of proton to neutron ratio. These calculations have been also made for the case of symmetrical nuclear matter with UV14, AV14 and AV18 potentials. In our calculations, we use the lowest order constrained variational (LOCV) method to compute the correlation function of the system.Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures, 1 table Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics (2011) accepte
