    Placement Optimization of Substitutable Products

Strategic product placement can have a strong influence on customer purchase behavior in physical stores as well as online platforms. Motivated by this, we consider the problem of optimizing the placement of substitutable products in designated display locations to maximize the expected revenue of the seller. We model the customer behavior as a two-stage process: first, the customer visits a subset of display locations according to a browsing distribution; second, the customer chooses at most one product from the displayed products at those locations according to a choice model. Our goal is to design a general algorithm that can select and place the products optimally for any browsing distribution and choice model, and we call this the Placement problem. We give a randomized algorithm that utilizes an α\alpha-approximate algorithm for cardinality constrained assortment optimization and outputs a Θ(α)logm\frac{\Theta(\alpha)}{\log m}-approximate solution (in expectation) for Placement with mm display locations, i.e., our algorithm outputs a solution with value at least Ω(α)logm\frac{\Omega(\alpha)}{\log m} factor of the optimal and this is tight in the worst case. We also give algorithms with stronger guarantees in some special cases. In particular, we give a deterministic Ω(1)logm\frac{\Omega(1)}{\log m}-approximation algorithm for the Markov choice model, and a tight (11/e)(1-1/e)-approximation algorithm for the problem when products have identical prices

In today’s interconnected world, the significance of effective career guidance has been magnified. With the advent of mobile technologies, e-orientation and artificial intelligence (AI)-orientation systems offer a promising avenue for personalized career guidance. This paper delves into the potential of transitioning from traditional e-orientation to advanced AI-orientation systems in Morocco by employing large language models (LLMs) such as LLAMA2, GPT, and PaLM. These LLMs, renowned for their human-like text generation and contextual understanding, are proposed as the backbone for AI chatbots that can serve as virtual career counselors. Accessible via mobile platforms, these mobile chatbot interfaces can provide real-time insights on career paths, educational prerequisites, and job market dynamics and outlooks. Despite challenges such as Internet reliability, data privacy, and legislative regulations, the integration of AI-orientated systems into mobile platforms can revolutionize career guidance for Moroccan students. This paper presents a detailed roadmap and implementation for embedding these innovative technologies into Morocco’s educational framework

Purpose: Designers of mobile applications have long understood the importance of users’ preferences in making the user experience easier, convenient and therefore valuable. The cultural aspects of groups of users are among the key features of users’ design preferences, because each group’s preferences depend on various features that are culturally compatible. The process of integrating culture into the design of a system has always been an important ingredient for effective and interactive human computer interface. This study aims to investigate the design of a mobile health (mHealth) application user interface (UI) based on Arabic culture. It was argued that integrating certain cultural values of specific groups of users into the design of UI would increase their acceptance of the technology. Design/methodology/approach: A total of 135 users responded to an online survey about their acceptance of a culturally designed mHealth. Findings: The findings showed that culturally based language, colours, layout and images had a significant relationship with users’ behavioural intention to use the culturally based mHealth UI. Research limitations/implications: First, the sample and the data collected of this study were restricted to Arab users and Arab culture; therefore, the results cannot be generalized to other cultures and users. Second, the adapted unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model was used in this study instead of the new version, which may expose new perceptions. Third, the cultural aspects of UI design in this study were limited to the images, colours, language and layout. Practical implications: It encourages UI designers to implement the relevant cultural aspects while developing mobile applications. Originality/value: Embedding Arab cultural aspects in designing UI for mobile applications to satisfy Arab users and enhance their acceptance toward using mobile applications, which will reflect positively on their lives.</p

The aim of this study is to analyse the prenatal care performed to the women who gave birth at the Souissi Maternity, Ibn Sina University Hospital of Rabat, Morocco. This study is based on a historical cohort with prospective data collection, during the period of 2 April 2013 to 14 April 2013, with 230 patients Hospitalized to deliver. According to the study 96, 5 % of the women interviewed received at least one prenatal consultation from a qualified staff. Despite the high rate of coverage with antenatal care, it was found that more than half of women did not benefit from the following services: size measuring, urinalysis, rubella and toxoplasmosis serology. We also noted a growing concern among women for pregnancy monitoring quality, since 43% were simultaneously monitored by several categories of staff. To improve the quality of prenatal care, we recommend that health professionals complete physical and diagnostic tests, also provide more information about continuity of care during prenatal consultations

Maximum Load Assortment Optimization: Approximation Algorithms and Adaptivity Gaps

Motivated by modern-day applications such as Attended Home Delivery and Preference-based Group Scheduling, where decision makers wish to steer a large number of customers toward choosing the exact same alternative, we introduce a novel class of assortment optimization problems, referred to as Maximum Load Assortment Optimization. In such settings, given a universe of substitutable products, we are facing a stream of customers, each choosing between either selecting a product out of an offered assortment or opting to leave without making a selection. Assuming that these decisions are governed by the Multinomial Logit choice model, we define the random load of any underlying product as the total number of customers who select it. Our objective is to offer an assortment of products to each customer so that the expected maximum load across all products is maximized. We consider both static and dynamic formulations. In the static setting, a single offer set is carried throughout the entire process of customer arrivals, whereas in the dynamic setting, the decision maker offers a personalized assortment to each customer, based on the entire information available at that time. The main contribution of this paper resides in proposing efficient algorithmic approaches for computing near-optimal static and dynamic assortment policies. In particular, we develop a polynomial-time approximation scheme (PTAS) for the static formulation. Additionally, we demonstrate that an elegant policy utilizing weight-ordered assortments yields a 1/2- approximation. Concurrently, we prove that such policies are sufficiently strong to provide a 1/4-approximation with respect to the dynamic formulation, establishing a constant-factor bound on its adaptivity gap. Finally, we design an adaptive policy whose expected maximum load is within factor 1-\eps of optimal, admitting a quasi-polynomial time implementation
