Salt pond restoration in the Turks and Caicos Islands

    No full text
The Turks & Caicos Islands contain numerous salt ponds, or "salinas", which were used by the salt industry until its collapse in the 1960s. Since then, problems have arisen that include poor water quality, stagnation, and polluted runoff. The project objective was to design an approach for restoring these ponds. The methodology included field monitoring, hydraulic analyses, and hydrologic model simulation. The design recommendations consist of increasing circulation and tidal exchange by widening the existing channels, adding culverts, and installing windmills

This project, completed in Copenhagen, Denmark, for the Danish Cyclists Federation, describes the current situation of bicycle theft and security in Denmark and suggests possible solutions to alleviate this problem. Using extensive background research, interviews, focus groups and field observations, the team determined that a system using radio frequency identification tags and scanning technology would greatly improve on the current frame number system and more easily identify bicycles. Guidelines and important contacts crucial to implementing such a system are included
