Suspension of GSP: Image Crisis for Bangladesh

    Get PDF
The most troubled sector of recent times is Ready-made Garments (RMG) sector of Bangladesh which is the backbone of our economy. This labor intensive industry has accommodated 4.5 million workers 80% of whom are women in the last fiscal year. So there are about 5,000 garments factories scattered across the country. 78% of our foreign earnings come from this sector. This sector keeps our economy moving, but the industry has been facing numerous problems. Poor working conditions, bad industrial relations, low wage, the arrogant and ruthless attitude of the owners or management and lack of solid and positive initiative on behalf of successive governments has made this sector questionable in the world market. It has lost GSP (Generalized System of Preference) advantage in the U.S market which has created an image crisis for the industry. This is fear of loosing GSP advantage in the EU market as well. To save the employment generation and one of the largest foreign currency earning sectors, BGMEA, BKMEA and Government should adopt an integrated approach on the one hand and boost up the image of this industry on the other.  Key words: Ready Made Garment, GSP, Suspension of GSP

Less is More: Facial Landmarks can Recognize a Spontaneous Smile

Smile veracity classification is a task of interpreting social interactions. Broadly, it distinguishes between spontaneous and posed smiles. Previous approaches used hand-engineered features from facial landmarks or considered raw smile videos in an end-to-end manner to perform smile classification tasks. Feature-based methods require intervention from human experts on feature engineering and heavy pre-processing steps. On the contrary, raw smile video inputs fed into end-to-end models bring more automation to the process with the cost of considering many redundant facial features (beyond landmark locations) that are mainly irrelevant to smile veracity classification. It remains unclear to establish discriminative features from landmarks in an end-to-end manner. We present a MeshSmileNet framework, a transformer architecture, to address the above limitations. To eliminate redundant facial features, our landmarks input is extracted from Attention Mesh, a pre-trained landmark detector. Again, to discover discriminative features, we consider the relativity and trajectory of the landmarks. For the relativity, we aggregate facial landmark that conceptually formats a curve at each frame to establish local spatial features. For the trajectory, we estimate the movements of landmark composed features across time by self-attention mechanism, which captures pairwise dependency on the trajectory of the same landmark. This idea allows us to achieve state-of-the-art performances on UVA-NEMO, BBC, MMI Facial Expression, and SPOS datasets

This article has no abstract. The first 100 words appear below:A 7 year old girl reported to the child outpatient department of a military hospital in Chittagong (South-East part of Bangladesh) Cantonment with the complaints of generalized weakness, loss of appe-tite, gradual distention of the abdomen and weight loss. The child was reasonably well and performing all her daily activities at her own 1 year before. She was also going to the school regularly and was worried when her parents noticed the distension of her abdomen and reluctant to take food adequately. The child also developed weakness and witnessed weight loss. At that time, there was no history of fever, jaundice, vomiting, hematemesis and melena

Electronic-Banking Services: A Study on Selected Commercial Banks in Bangladesh

    Get PDF
E-Banking as the wave of the future, provides enormous benefits to consumers in terms of cost of transactions, either through internet, telephone or other electronic delivery channels. E-Banking is now widely practiced in Bangladesh. There are various types of e-banking services like SMS banking, Tele Banking, Push and Pull services, ATM, Fast Track etc. that have been introduced by the commercial banks in Bangladesh. This study attempts to explore various forms and characteristics of e-banking and finds out the merits and demerits of e-banking in selected commercial banks of our country. The major findings of the study show that all the commercial banks selected for the study have been practicing e-banking successfully and Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd. is providing electronic banking services more effectively than other commercial banks selected in this study. Besides, there is a positive impact of e-banking on the socio-economic development in Bangladesh. There should be diversification of such activities in rural areas of Bangladesh

The coordination around the Sb atom in the title compound, (C6H16N)[Sb(C14H10O3)2], is fourfold in a pseudo-trigonal-bipyramidal pattern in which one of the equatorial sites is occupied by the stereoactive lone pair of electrons. The four ligating atoms comprise the hydoxylate and carboxylate O atoms from two independent benzilate ligands, each of which forms a five-membered chelating ring, spanning an axial and an equatorial site about the Sb atom. The hydroxylate atoms occupy the two equatorial sites, and the carboxylate atoms are in the pseudo-axial sites; the O—Sb—O angle is 147.72 (5)°. One carboxylate group shows quite different bond lengths from those of the other group; one O atom is clearly the carbonyl atom and the other O atom the hydroxylate atom. In the other ligand, there is less distinction in the C—O bonds. This is presumably related to the carbonyl O atom being the acceptor atom of a strong N—H⋯O hydrogen bond, which links the ammonium cation to the Sb complex anion

    Green Banking Prospects in Bangladesh

    Get PDF
Green banking is the operation of the banking activities giving especial attention upon the social, ecological and environmental factors aiming at the conservation of nature and natural resources. Banks can be green through bringing changes in six main spheres of banking activities. Those are Change in Investment Management, Change in Deposit Management, Change in House Keeping, Change in the Process of Recruitment and Development of Human Capital, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Making Consciousness Among Clients and General Mass. Such an initiation can ensure a safe residence for upcoming generation. Bangladesh Bank has already issued circulars regarding this. Banks have already been asked to make their own green banking policy. Now we only need raising voice, keeping hand over hands, thinking in positive way and working in collective manner to make this a true
