Silver studio designated collection
The Silver Studio was a commercial design practice, founded by Arthur Silver in 1880. Between 1880 and 1963, the Studio completed more than 20,000 schemes for furnishing fabrics, wallpapers, tablecloths, rugs and carpets. Silver Studio designs were sold to a range of manufacturers around Britain and abroad, often becoming anonymised in the process. After it closed, the contents of the Silver Studio -artwork, record books, photographs, correspondence and so on - were given to Hornsey College of Art, which became part of what is now Middlesex University. This material is now the focal collection of the Museum of Domestic Design & Architecture (MoDA), Middlesex University.
In 2008, the Silver Studio Collection was awarded Designated Status by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), in recognition of its quality and importance as a national resource. The Designation Scheme identifies the pre-eminent collections of national and international importance held in England's non-national museums, libraries and archives, based on their quality and significance
A CONFIRMATORY FACTOR ANALYSIS OF THE 22-ITEM EMPATHY ASSESSMENT INDEX
The Empathy Assessment Index (EAI), an instrument based on the social cognitive neuroscience conceptualization of empathy, is a measure of interpersonal empathy with five components: affective response, self-other awareness, perspective taking, affective mentalizing, and emotion regulation. However, the most recently added component, affective mentalizing, has demonstrated high correlations with perspective taking. The high correlations may indicate a lack of discriminant validity within the index. This non-experimental, quantitative, and cross-sectional study aimed to determine whether the factor structure of the 22-Item EAI is a correlated five-component model. A snowball sample of 929 community members completed the 22-Item EAI as an online survey housed in SurveyMonkey. The hypothesized five-component model was examined with a confirmatory factor analysis in a random subsample (n = 300) of the valid dataset (N = 903). Findings indicated that a five correlated model of the 22-Item EAI had inadequate or poor model fit: χ2(199) = 605.41; NC = 3.04; RMSEA = .08 [.08, .09]; CFI = .80; TLI = .77; SRMR = 0.08. The findings suggest that additional research is needed to establish the underlying factor structure of the 22-Item EAI. Future studies should include exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis to determine the best model fit of the index. The results of studies that have used the 22-Item EAI as a five-component model should be interpreted with caution. Program Improvement and Practice: In-Service and Pre-Service Student Teaching Reflections
A qualitative study was conducted with graduates (in-service teachers) and pre-service teacher candidates from a traditional elementary education program to explore perceptions of the student teaching process and its impact on teaching philosophy and practices. The program graduates and pre-service teachers described their experience as valuable, but believed their knowledge of pedagogy and classroom management to be deficient. The value of the internship process and implications for program improvement are discussed. Theory without practice is dead, and practice without theory is blind. — Ano
A GIT interpretration of the Harder-Narasimhan filtration
An unstable torsion free sheaf on a smooth projective variety gives a GIT
unstable point in certain Quot scheme. To a GIT unstable point, Kempf
associates a "maximally destabilizing" 1-parameter subgroup, and this induces a
filtration of the torsion free sheaf. We show that this filtration coincides
with the Harder-Narasimhan filtration.Comment: 19 pages; Comments of the referees and references added. The

A frontline service? Nursery Schools as local community hubs in an era of austerity
Nursery Schools in the UK have been described as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of early years provision because of the quality of education and a wide range of other support services that they provide, particularly for children from socio-economically disadvantaged families and those with complex special educational needs (SEN). In this paper, we explore the role of Nursery Schools in the local community, arguing that they have been re/constructed as a frontline service in the context of austerity policies enacted in England over the past decade. The data presented in support of this argument arise from detailed interviews with 17 staff based in four Nursery Schools. Our data lead us to argue that, in the current context of austerity and cuts to a range of local services, Nursery Schools are filling welfare gaps for families by providing clothing, trips and food voucher advice to families. They are also supporting increasing numbers of SEN children and are described as a first point of contact with state-run services by many, especially minority ethnic and working-class families. We conclude by arguing that Nursery Schools’ funding must be protected so that they can continue to provide support to some of the most vulnerable children and their families in England
Slow Counseling: Promoting Wellness in a Fast World
Recent technological advances have spurred a fast-paced style of living that has become increasingly commonplace around the world. Professional counselors are therefore recognizing that many clients are seeking ways to reduce stress and cultivate a more balanced approach to life. Rooted in the Slow Movement, Slow Counseling offers counselors a wellness-focused foundation for addressing the time urgency and stress often reported by today’s clients
