    Biaxial magnetic alignment in twinned REBa[2]Cu[3]O[y]superconductors

    Get PDF
    Biaxial magnetic alignment of REBa[2]Cu[3]O[y] (RE123, RE = Y, Nd, Sm, Dy, and Er) superconductor powders containing twin microstructures was demonstrated. Appropriate choice of RE effectively improved the degrees of in-plane and c-axis orientation in RE123 powder samples aligned under modulated rotating magnetic fields at room temperature. From the relationship between the magnetic field strength and the degrees of orientation, it is concluded that heavy RE ions induced the improvement of the in-plane magnetic anisotropies in RE123 grains with twin microstructures

    Angle-resolved photoemission study of insulating and metallic Cu-O chains in PrBa2_2Cu3_3O7_7 and PrBa2_2Cu4_4O8_8

    Full text link
    We compare the angle-resolved photoemission spectra of the hole-doped Cu-O chains in PrBa2_2Cu3_3O7_7 (Pr123) and in PrBa2_2Cu4_4O8_8 (Pr124). While, in Pr123, a dispersive feature from the chain takes a band maximum at kbk_b (momentum along the chain) \sim π/4\pi/4 and loses its spectral weight around the Fermi level, it reaches the Fermi level at kbk_b \sim π/4\pi/4 in Pr124. Although the chains in Pr123 and Pr124 are approximately 1/4-filled, they show contrasting behaviors: While the chains in Pr123 have an instability to charge ordering, those in Pr124 avoid it and show an interesting spectral feature of a metallic coupled-chain system.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, to be published in PR

    Possible high temperature superconductivity in Ti-doped A-Sc-Fe-As-O (A= Ca, Sr) system

    Full text link
    We report a systematic study on the effect of partial substitution of Sc3+^{3+} by Ti4+^{4+} in Sr2_{2}ScFeAsO3_{3}, Ca2_{2}ScFeAsO3_{3} and Sr3_{3}Sc2_{2}Fe2_{2}As2_{2}O5_{5} on their electrical properties. High level of doping results in an increased carrier concentration and leads to the appearance of superconductivity with the onset of Tc_{c} up to 45 K.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 2 new figure

    Search for CP Violation in D Meson Decays to phi pi+

    Full text link
    We search for CP violation in Cabibbo-suppressed charged D meson decays by measuring the difference between the CP violating asymmetries for the Cabibbo-suppressed decays D+ -> K+K-pi+ and the Cabibbo-favored decays Ds -> K+K-pi+ in the K+K- mass region of the phi resonance. Using 955/fb of data collected with the Belle detector we obtain A_CP(D+ -> phi pi+) = (+0.51 +- 0.28 +- 0.05)%. The measurement improves the sensitivity of previous searches by more than a factor of five. We find no evidence for direct CP violation.Comment: submitted to PR

    Search for leptonic decays of D0 mesons

    Full text link
    We search for the flavor-changing neutral current decays D0\to mu+mu- and D0\to e+e-, and for the lepton-flavor violating decays D0\to e\pm mu\mp using 660 fb^-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We find no evidence for any of these decays. We obtain significantly improved upper limits on the branching fractions: B(D0\to mu+mu-)<1.4x10-7, B(D0\to e+e-)<7.9x10-8, and B(D0\to e+mu-)+B(D0\to mu+e-)<2.6x10-7 at 90% confidence level.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

    First study of \eta_c, \eta(1760) and X(1835) production via \eta'\pi^+\pi^- final states in two-photon collisions

    Full text link
    The invariant mass spectrum of the \eta' \pi^+ \pi^- final state produced in two-photon collisions is obtained using a 673 fb^{-1} data sample collected in the vicinity of the \Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider. We observe a clear signal of the \eta_c and measure its mass and width to be M(\eta_c)=(2982.7 +- 1.8(stat) +- 2.2(syst) +- 0.3(model)) MeV/c^2 and \Gamma(\eta_c) = (37.8^{+5.8}_{-5.3}(stat) +- 2.8(syst) +- 1.4(model)) MeV/c^2. The third error is an uncertainty due to possible interference between the \eta_c and a non-resonant component. We also report the first evidence for \eta(1760) decay to \eta' \pi^+ \pi^-; we find two solutions for its parameters, depending on the inclusion or not of the X(1835), whose existence is of marginal significance in our data. From a fit to the mass spectrum using coherent X(1835) and \eta(1760) resonant amplitudes, we set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the product \Gamma_{\gamma\gamma} \BR (\eta' \pi^+ \pi^-) for the X(1835).Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, submitted to PR

    Observation of B+ -> Dbar*0 tau+ nu_tau and Evidence for B+ -> Dbar^0 tau+ nu_tau at Belle

    Full text link
    We present measurements of B+ -> Dbar*0 tau+ nu_tau and B+ -> Dbar^0 tau+ nu_tau decays in a data sample of 657 x 10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We find 446^{+58}_{-56} events of the decay B+ -> Dbar*0 tau+ nu_tau with a significance of 8.1 standard deviations, and 146^{+42}_{-41} events of the decay B+ -> Dbar0 tau+ nu_tau with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations. The latter signal provides the first evidence for this decay mode. The measured branching fractions are B(B+ -> Dbar*0 tau+ nu_tau)=(2.12^{+0.28}_{-0.27} (stat) +- 0.29 (syst)) % and B(B+ -> Dbar0 tau+ nu_tau)=(0.77 +- 0.22 (stat) +- 0.12 (syst)) %.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys.     Evidence for a new resonance and search for the Y(4140) in γγϕJ/ψ\gamma \gamma \to \phi J/\psi

    Full text link
    The process \gamma \gamma \to \phi \jpsi is measured for \phi \jpsi masses between threshold and 5 GeV/c2{\it c}^2, using a data sample of 825 fb1^{-1} collected with the Belle detector. A narrow peak of 8.83.2+4.28.8^{+4.2}_{-3.2} events, with a significance of 3.2 standard deviations including systematic uncertainty, is observed. The mass and natural width of the structure (named X(4350)) are measured to be (4350.65.1+4.6(stat)±0.7(syst))MeV/c2(4350.6^{+4.6}_{-5.1}(\rm{stat})\pm 0.7(\rm{syst})) \hbox{MeV}/{\it c}^2 and (139+18(stat)±4(syst))MeV(13^{+18}_{-9}(\rm{stat})\pm 4(\rm{syst})) \hbox{MeV}, respectively. The product of its two-photon decay width and branching fraction to \phi\jpsi is (6.72.4+3.2(stat)±1.1(syst))eV(6.7^{+3.2}_{-2.4}(\rm{stat}) \pm 1.1(\rm{syst})) \hbox{eV} for JP=0+J^P=0^+, or (1.50.6+0.7(stat)±0.3(syst))eV(1.5^{+0.7}_{-0.6}(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.3(\rm{syst})) \hbox{eV} for JP=2+J^P=2^+. No signal for the Y(4140)\to \phi \jpsi structure reported by the CDF Collaboration in B\to K^+ \phi \jpsi decays is observed, and limits of \Gamma_{\gamma \gamma}(Y(4140)) \BR(Y(4140)\to\phi \jpsi)<41 \hbox{eV} for JP=0+J^P=0^+ or <6.0eV<6.0 \hbox{eV} for JP=2+J^P=2^+ are determined at the 90% C.L. This disfavors the scenario in which the Y(4140) is a Ds+DsD_{s}^{\ast+} {D}_{s}^{\ast-} molecule.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, publication in Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 112004, 201

    Full text link
    We report measurements of branching fractions and time-dependent CP asymmetries in B0D+DB^{0} \to D^{+}D^{-} and B0D±DB^{0} \to D^{*\pm}D^{\mp} decays using a data sample that contains (772±11)×106BBˉ(772 \pm 11)\times 10^6 B\bar{B} pairs collected at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+ e^- collider. We determine the branching fractions to be B(B0D+D)=(2.12±0.16±0.18)×104\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \to D^{+}D^{-})=(2.12 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.18)\times 10^{-4} and B(B0D±D=(6.14±0.29±0.50)×104\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \to D^{*\pm}D^{\mp}=(6.14 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.50)\times 10^{-4}. We measure CP asymmetry parameters SD+D=1.060.14+0.21±0.08\mathcal{S}_{D^{+}D^{-}} = -1.06_{-0.14}^{+0.21} \pm 0.08 and CD+D=0.43±0.16±0.05\mathcal{C}_{D^{+}D^{-}} = -0.43 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.05 in B0D+DB^{0} \to D^{+}D^{-} and ADD=+0.06±0.05±0.02\mathcal{A}_{D^{*}D} = +0.06 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.02, SDD=0.78±0.15±0.05\mathcal{S}_{D^{*}D} = -0.78 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.05, CDD=0.01±0.11±0.04\mathcal{C}_{D^{*}D} = -0.01 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.04, ΔSDD=0.13±0.15±0.04\Delta\mathcal{S}_{D^{*}D} = -0.13 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.04 and ΔCDD=+0.12±0.11±0.03\Delta\mathcal{C}_{D^{*}D} = +0.12 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.03 in B0D±DB^{0} \to D^{*\pm}D^{\mp}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. We exclude the conservation of CP symmetry in both decays at equal to or greater than 4σ4\sigma significance.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
