Effect of morphology and microstructure on the thermal conductivity of chalcogenide thermoelectric materials

In this thesis, I have investigated the structure and morphology of some typical thermoelectric materials and their effects on the performance of these materials. In our world, the energy crisis and environmental pollution are two major problems that people need to address. Thermoelectric materials have received a lot of attention in this respect due to their ability to convert directly between heat and electricity while doing so in a pollution-free, highly reliable and maintenance-free manner. The preparation methods in the thesis that involve quenching from high temperature are able not only to stabilize phases that appear at high-temperature in the phase diagram but also to obtain complex microstructures. The macroscopic properties of substances are expressed by microscopic atoms, and it is the laws of the microscopic physical world that are the essential laws of the macroscopic world. Elucidating the microstructure and morphology of materials is therefore of great importance to understand the macroscopic properties of materials

Recycling of solvent used in a solvent extraction of petroleum hydrocarbons contaminated soil.

The application of water washing technology for recycling an organic composite solvent consisting of hexane and pentane (4:1; TU-A solvent) was investigated for extracting total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) from contaminated soil. The effects of water volume, water temperature, washing time and initial concentration of solvent were evaluated using orthogonal experiments followed by single factor experiments. Our results showed that the water volume was a statistically significant factor influencing greatly the water washing efficiency. Although less important, the other three factors have all increased the efficacy of water washing treatment. Based on a treatment of 20g of contaminated soil with a TPH concentration of 140mgg(-1), optimal conditions were found to be at 40°C, 100mL water, 5min washing time and 660mgg(-1) solvent. Semi-continuous water extraction method showed that the concentration of the composite solvent TU-A was reduced below 15mgg(-1) d.w. soil with a recovery extraction efficiency >97%. This finding suggests that water washing is a promising technology for recycling solvent used in TPH extraction from contaminated soil

Feasibility Study on incorporating IEC/ISO27001 Information Security Management System (ISMS) in IT Services Environment is a research study by taking an organization as a case study to carry out a feasibility study on existing maturity level of managing information security and propose an implementation approach to the organization based on ISO27001 ISMS standards. The activities involve the security gap assessment, drafting the mandatory documents as per ISO 27001 ISMS standard requirement. The objective of this study is to identify the common information security incidents and the ISO27001 ISMS practices on corrective and prevention actions. Beside, this research study is focusing on analyzing the current state of an organization by conducting a feasibility study on the readiness of ISO27001 ISMS practiced by the organization. The methodology of this research study was derived with the research operational framework that comprised of several project phases, ISO27001 ISMS implementation phases that mapped to the deliverables. The deliverables and expected results are series of document sets that must comply to the ISO27001 ISMS standard such as initial draft of ISMS policy manual, risk assessment methodology, risk assessment report, statement of applicability (SOA) will be developed to meet the ISO27001 ISMS requirement and criteria. Also, the mandatory activities such as gap assessment, information security risk assessment will be proposed and conducted with the relevant reports to be prepared as part of the results and findings to accomplish the objectives of this research study. The findings of the feasibility study from the gap assessment that has been performed within an organization are not meeting the requirement of ISO27001 ISMS. Hence, this research study proposed the implementation approach based on ISO27001 ISMS standards to implement the ISMS controls to close the gaps and mitigate the risks identified from the gap assessment findings

The title complex, [CdCl2(C9H12N4)]n, is characterized by the formation of a zigzag chain structure parallel to [001]. In the chain, the Cd2+ cation is coordinated by four bridging Cl− ligands in equatorial positions and two N atoms from symmetry-related and likewise bridging 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-yl)propane ligands in axial positions, forming a distorted CdCl4N2 octahedron

Gromov-Witten invariants of blow-ups along submanifolds with convex normal bundles

Given a submanifold Z inside X, let Y be the blow-up of X along Z. When the normal bundle of Z in X is convex with a minor assumption, we prove that genus-zero GW-invariants of Y with cohomology insertions from X, are identical to GW-invariants of X. Under the same hypothesis, a vanishing theorem is also proved. An example to which these two theorems apply is when the normal bundle is generated by global sections. These two main theorems do not hold for arbitrary blow-ups, and counter-examples are included.Comment: 34 page

In the title compound, C10H11N3O2, the nitro group is essentially coplanar with the aromatic ring [dihedral angle = 1.3 (3)°] and forms an intramolecular amine–nitro N—H⋯O hydrogen bond. In the crystal, weak intermolecular aromatic C—H⋯Onitro hydrogen bonds link the molecules. Weak aromatic ring π–π interactions [minimum ring centroid separation = 3.7744 (13) Å] are also present
