Isospin particle on with arbitrary number of supersymmetries
We study the supersymmetric quantum mechanics of an isospin particle in the
background of spherically symmetric Yang-Mills gauge field. We show that on
the number of supersymmetries can be made arbitrarily large for a
specific choice of the spherically symmetric SU(2) gauge field. However, the
symmetry algebra containing the supercharges becomes nonlinear if the number of
fermions is greater than two. We present the exact energy spectra and
eigenfunctions, which can be written as the product of monopole harmonics and a
certain isospin state. We also find that the supersymmetry is spontaneously
broken if the number of supersymmetries is even.Comment: 6 page
model with Hopf term and fractional spin statistics
We reconsider the model with the Hopf term by using the
Batalin-Fradkin-Tyutin (BFT) scheme, which is an improved version of the Dirac
quantization method. We also perform a semi-classical quantization of the
topological charge Q sector by exploiting the collective coordinates to
explicitly show the fractional spin statistics.Comment: 15 page
Ballistic spin field-effect transistors: Multichannel effects
We study a ballistic spin field-effect transistor (SFET) with special
attention to the issue of multi-channel effects. The conductance modulation of
the SFET as a function of the Rashba spin-orbit coupling strength is
numerically examined for the number of channels ranging from a few to close to
100. Even with the ideal spin injector and collector, the conductance
modulation ratio, defined as the ratio between the maximum and minimum
conductances, decays rapidly and approaches one with the increase of the
channel number. It turns out that the decay is considerably faster when the
Rashba spin-orbit coupling is larger. Effects of the electronic coherence are
also examined in the multi-channel regime and it is found that the coherent
Fabry-Perot-like interference in the multi-channel regime gives rise to a
nested peak structure. For a nonideal spin injector/collector structure, which
consists of a conventional metallic ferromagnet-thin insulator-2DEG
heterostructure, the Rashba-coupling-induced conductance modulation is strongly
affected by large resonance peaks that arise from the electron confinement
effect of the insulators. Finally scattering effects are briefly addressed and
it is found that in the weakly diffusive regime, the positions of the resonance
peaks fluctuate, making the conductance modulation signal sample-dependent.Comment: 18 pages, 15 figure
Plasmonic colloidal nanoparticles with open eccentric cavities via acid-induced chemical transformation
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has been considered a promising technique for the detection of trace molecules in biomedicine and environmental monitoring. The ideal metal nanoparticles for SERS must not only fulfill important requirements such as high near-field enhancement and a tunable far-field response but also overcome the diffusion limitation at extremely lower concentrations of a target material. Here, we introduce a novel method to produce gold nanoparticles with open eccentric cavities by selectively adapting the structure of non-plasmonic nanoparticles via acid-mediated surface replacement. Copper oxide nanoparticles with open eccentric cavities are first prepared using a microwave-irradiation-assisted surfactant-free hydrothermal reaction and are then transformed into gold nanoparticles by an acidic gold precursor while maintaining their original structure. Because of the strong near-field enhancement occurring at the mouth of the open cavities and the very rough surfaces resulting from the uniformly covered hyperbranched sharp multi-tips and the free access of SERS molecules inside of the nanoparticles without diffusion limitation, adenine, one of the four bases in DNA, in an extremely diluted aqueous solution (1.0 pM) was successfully detected with excellent reproducibility upon laser excitation with a 785-nm wavelength. The gold nanoparticles with open eccentric cavities provide a powerful platform for the detection of ultra-trace analytes in an aqueous solution within near-infrared wavelengths, which is essential for highly sensitive, reliable and direct in vivo analysis.None1132sciescopu
