Self-force and synchrotron radiation in odd space-time dimensions

Classical electrodynamics in flat 3+1 space-time has a very special retarded propagator delta(x^2) localized on the light cone, so that a particle does not interact with its past field. However, this is an exception, and in flat odd-dimensional space-times as well as generic curved spaces this is not so. In this work we show that the so called self-force is not only non-zero, but it matches (in 2+1 dimensions) the radiation reaction force derived from the radiation intensity.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figur

Problem. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is losing a great number of youth. The unfavorable attitudes on the part of many youth toward god\u27s commandments are thought to have been partially responsible for this apostasy phenomenon. Method. This study was designed to find out whether the Piagetian theory of moral judgment development can give some insight into this problem and its solution. Two Piagetian paired-stories sets were used to test children\u27s moral judgment. Chi Square tests were employed to analyze data. The following hypotheses were tested: 1. There will be no differences between the various age levels in the way American or Hong Kong subjects respond to stories containing moral themes. 2. There will be no difference between the Seventh-day Adventist and the non-Seventh-day Adventist subjects in America or in Hong Kong in the way they respond to stories containing moral themes. 3. There will be no difference between American Seventh-day Adventist and Hong Kong Seventh-day Adventist subjects in the way they respond to the stories containing moral themes. 4. There will be no difference between American public school and hong Kong public school subjects in the way they respond to stories containing moral themes. 5. There will be no difference between total Hong Kong response and total American response. Results. The comparison of a selected sample of American and Hong Kong children\u27s response to Piagetian-type stories indicated that his theory of moral judgment is applicable in the United States of America and overseas. From the sample tested it was found that moral judgment development is sequential, age related, and cognitively geared. American and Hong Kong subjects, both Seventh-day Adventists and non-Seventh-day Adventists, made similar responses to stories containing moral themes. The only exception was found among Seventh-Day Adventist subjects of the five-to-nine age group in both populations who showed greater moral maturity compared to their public school counterparts. Conclusion. Data from the sample studied lead to the conclusion that the universality of the applicability of Piagetian theory on moral judgment development can contribute to Seventh-day Adventist moral education practices. The developmental approach should help to make Seventh-day Adventist moral education programs more efficient and effective

TOWARDS HIGH RESOLUTION IDENTIFICATION OF VARIETY-SEEKING BEHAVIOR

Because smartphones are now ubiquitous, it becomes for the first time economically feasible to operationalize personalized marketing measures also for physical grocery retailing. A particularly interesting and high valu target group in this domain is the one of variety seeking, since this group is most likely to respond positively to new offers and recommendations. However, present methods in identifying variety seekers rely on qustionnaires and ignore that variety seeking may differ between product categories. In this paper, we present a model for measuring variety seeking behavior on a high level of granularity, based on a consumer´s purchases in individual product categories. Our study has three main contributions. Firstly, we contribute to the customer segmentation research stream by providing a novel way for identifying customers´ overall extent of variety seeking as well as their specific variety seeking at a category level. Second, for the most important retail categories we characterize the extent of variety seeking and provide a data-driven approach that is easy to operationalize by practitioners “ especially for deploying large-scale personalized marketing measures in social or mobile commerce in physical stores. Finally, we provide a method to reconcile the highly granular category-level results with existing per person typologies

The binuclear title compound, [Au2Fe(C9H10NOS)2(C17H14P)2]·CH2Cl2, which has the Fe atom located on a crystallographic centre of inversion, crystallizes as a 1:1 dichloromethane solvate, which is disordered about a centre of inversion. There is a small deviation from linearity defined by the SP donor set [S1—Au—P1 angle is 175.35 (5) °] which is due to an intramolecular Au⋯O contact [3.080 (5) Å]. The primary intermolecular contacts between binuclear molecules are of the type C—H⋯π, and are arranged so as to form columns in the a-axis direction in which the disordered solvent molecules reside

Each gold atom in the binuclear title compound, [Au2(C9H9N2O3S)2(C25H22P2)], is coordinated within an S,P-donor set that defines a slightly distorted linear geometry [S—Au—P angles = 172.77 (6) and 173.84 (6)°], with the distortion due in part to a close intramolecular Au⋯O contact [2.968 (11) and 2.963 (4) Å]. The molecule adopts a U-shaped conformation allowing for the formation of an aurophilic Au⋯Au interaction [3.2320 (5) Å]. Molecules are consolidated in the crystal structure by C—H⋯π interactions. Disorder was noted for one of the ethoxy groups with two orientations being resolved in a 0.679 (16):0.321 (16) ratio

Robot Pedagogics: The Adaptation, Analysis, and Computer Control of a Model Manipulator

The subject of robotics is addressed by many different fields, among them computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. This work is an attempt to bring together all of these aspects from the perspective of a computer science background. Different techniques are considered and reconciled with one another in the analytical area, while detail and explanation are added in all areas that were not previously available. In addition, geometrical interpretations arc presented for concepts that have heretofore been presented only in the form of equations

This thesis examines and evaluates the new simulation language PCModel. Prior to the arrival of PCModel, simulation via computer typically resulted in pages of statistics compiled over the duration of the simulation. PCModel\u27s approach is to simulate the model on the display before the user in real time. Additionally, user interaction is supported to allow changes to be made throughout the simulation run. The evaluation of PCModel is accomplished through inspection of a pair of examples already simulated in a conventional simulation language. The examples show the relative strong and weak points of the language, as well as demonstrating how PCModel is used

An S,P-donor set in the title solvate, [Au(C9H9N2O3S)(C18H15P)]·CH2Cl2, defines a linear geometry for the AuI atom [S—Au—P = 177.75 (7)°], with the minor distortion ascribed to the influence of an intramolecular Au⋯O contact [3.019 (6) Å]. In the crystal, the packing is stabilized by a network of C—H⋯S, C—H⋯N and C—H⋯O contacts
