Lower-dimensional superstrings in the double-spinor formalism

    Get PDF
We study lower-dimensional superstrings in the double-spinor formalism introduced by Aisaka and Kazama. These superstrings can be consistently quantized and are equivalent to the lower-dimensional pure-spinor superstrings proposed by Grassi and Wyllard. The unexpected physical spectrum of the pure-spinor superstrings may thus be regarded as a manifestation of noncriticality. We also discuss how to couple these covariant superstrings to the compactified degrees of freedom described by the N=2 superconformal field theory.Comment: 32 pages, version published in Prog. Theor. LaCo2B2: A Co-based layered superconductor with a ThCr2Si2-type structure

LaCo2B2 with a ThCr2Si2-type structure composed of alternately stacked La and CoB layers exhibits metallic electrical conductivity and Pauli paramagnetic behavior down to 2K. Bulk superconductivity with a Tc of ~4K emerges upon substitution with dopant elements; i.e., isovalent substitution to form (La1-xYx)Co2B2, or aliovalent substitution to form La(Co1-xFex)2B2. Highly covalent bonding between Co 3d and B 2p levels in the CoB layers, which is caused by the B 2p level being shallower than the Fermi level, removes magnetic ordering from Co 3d electrons even in the undoped samples.Comment: 3 figure

Ontology Mapping of PATO to YATO for the improvement of interoperability of quality description

    Get PDF
To facilitate broad interoperability for phenotype information between different ontological frameworks, we developed a reference ontology, PATO2YATO_Quality, with the careful mapping of terms of PATO which is a quality ontology commonly used for biological phenotype annotation to the latest top-level ontology, YATO, which represents advanced modeling of quality-related concepts. As a result, YATO framework enabled to describe changes of phenotypic qualities along the courses of time in ontologically correct way and sophisticated classification and representation of interrelationships among quality-related concepts to provide fully integration of qualitative values and quantitative values obtained from phenotyping experiments and advanced representation of more detailed quality description. Thus, PATO2YATO_Quality will contribute to advanced integration of phenotypic qualities

A Fat Body-Derived IGF-like Peptide Regulates Postfeeding Growth in Drosophila

SummaryMembers of the insulin family of peptides have conserved roles in the regulation of growth and metabolism in a wide variety of metazoans. Here we show that Drosophila insulin-like peptide 6 (DILP6), which is structurally similar to vertebrate insulin-like growth factor (IGF), is predominantly expressed in the fat body, a functional equivalent of the vertebrate liver and adipocytes. This expression occurs during the postfeeding stage under the direct regulation of ecdysteroid. We further reveal that dilp6 mutants show growth defects during the postfeeding stage, which results in reduced adult body size through a decrease in cell number. This phenotype is rescued by fat body-specific expression of dilp6. These data indicate that DILP6 is a functional, as well as a structural, counterpart of vertebrate IGFs. Our data provide in vivo evidence for a role of ILPs in determining adult body size through the regulation of postfeeding growth
