Purpose of the study Prior to the twentieth century, the administrators of educational institutions in the united states did not assume the responsibility of setting up organized placement and follow-up programs for persons enrolled in their schools. However, by 1910 it had been firmly established that the school is the most strategic place in which to offer such services. Some of the functions of guidance had already been instituted in Boston, Cincinnati, Chicago, and other cities. The study of the programs in placement and follow-up seems to indicate that wherever placement and follow-up services are available, the students receive more help in making the necessary adjustments, both vocational and social. this seems to be especially true in the field of industrial education and in other vocational fields

In this comic, the student reflects on the process of doing research for Dean Scheibel\u27s Communication Studies course. Students were instructed to create comics using photographs, drawings, or a computer program called Comic Life 3. The idea of reflection is important in education. These comics could be viewed as a response to reflective learning (or metacognition) about the idea of the literature review, or “research as inquiry.” Through reflection on what we do, we learn more deeply about our everyday experiences of life, death, love, God, and even literature reviews. Although “comix” have been the objects of critique by academics, these comics subject the work of the academy—the faculty member as teacher—to critique. Research is a process, and by having students reflect on the fears, errors, or mistakes made during that process they will experience new insights and discoveries

Literature Review : Electrical Energy Storage for Scotland

This report examines the role and value of energy storage in the context of electricity systems that are expected to absorb increasing quantities of time variable electricity generation from renewable sources in the years ahead. Particular attention is given to Scotland with its vast renewable energy potential and limited interconnection to the parts of the UK with the major electricity loads. Energy storage technologies cover a wide range of levels of development from mature technologies like pumped hydro with over 50 years of operational experience, to technologies still under development such as flow batteries and hydrogen storage systems, and all of these are reviewed. All scales of possible application are considered here from whole power system support, through community power provision, down to individual households

Pandemic Rule-Breakers, Moral Luck, and Blaming the Blameworthy

This paper takes under consideration a piece by Roger Crisp in which he questions what the problem of moral luck can teach us about COVID-19 lockdown rule-breakers. Taking the position that although such rule-breakers might seem to be new examples of moral luck, Crisp ends up denying the existence of moral luck and argues that moral luck is an outdated notion in so far as it relies on other questionable aspects of morality, that is, retributivist punishment and blame. Although the author agrees with Crisp that pandemic rule-breaker cases are putative examples of resultant moral luck, he proposes that Crisp has misconstrued what moral luck is and the paper examines in detail what he sees as the numerous problems with Crisp’s claims. The author concludes that Crisp’s analysis of pandemic rule-breaking does not shed any new light on the moral luck debate, and the difficult questions of luck, moral responsibility, and desert are not so easily resolved
