Global extraction of the parton-to-pion fragmentation functions at NLO accuracy in QCD
In this review, we discuss the results on the parton-to-pion fragmentation
functions obtained in a combined NLO fit to data of single-inclusive hadron
production in electron-positron annihilation, proton-proton collisions, and
lepton-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering. A more complete discussion can be
found in Ref. [1].Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure. To be published in Journal of Physics Conference

Tails from the Peak District: adjusted censored mixture models of EQ-5D health state utility values
Health state utility data generated using the EQ-5D instrument are typically right bounded at one with a substantial gap to the next set of observations, left bounded by some negative value, and are multi modal. These features present challenges to the estimation of the e¤ect of clinical and socioeconomic characteristics on health utilities. We present an adjusted censored model and then use this in a flexible, mixture modelling framework to address these issues. We demonstrate superior performance of this model compared to linear regression and Tobit censored regression using a dataset from repeated observations of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. We nd that three latent classes are appropriate in estimating EQ-5D from function, pain and sociodemographic factors. Analysis of utility data should apply methods that recognise the distributional features of the data
On the Potential of Leptonic Minimal Flavour Violation
Minimal Flavour Violation can be realized in several ways in the lepton
sector due to the possibility of Majorana neutrino mass terms. We derive the
scalar potential for the fields whose background values are the Yukawa
couplings, for the simplest See-Saw model with just two right-handed neutrinos,
and explore its minima. The Majorana character plays a distinctive role: the
minimum of the potential allows for large mixing angles -in contrast to the
simplest quark case- and predicts a maximal Majorana phase. This points in turn
to a strong correlation between neutrino mass hierarchy and mixing pattern.Comment: 6 pages; version published on Physics Letters

Spatial clustering of interacting bugs: Levy flights versus Gaussian jumps
A biological competition model where the individuals of the same species
perform a two-dimensional Markovian continuous-time random walk and undergo
reproduction and death is studied. The competition is introduced through the
assumption that the reproduction rate depends on the crowding in the
neighborhood. The spatial dynamics corresponds either to normal diffusion
characterized by Gaussian jumps or to superdiffusion characterized by L\'evy
flights. It is observed that in both cases periodic patterns occur for
appropriate parameters of the model, indicating that the general macroscopic
collective behavior of the system is more strongly influenced by the
competition for the resources than by the type of spatial dynamics. However,
some differences arise that are discussed.Comment: This version incorporates in the text the correction published as an
