_Trichoderma pseudokoningii_ Rifai isolation from Egyptian immunocompromised cattle with _Mycobacterium bovis_ infection
Recently, _Trichoderma_ species have emerged as potent fungal pathogens in immunocompromised humans. We report the first three cases of _Trichoderma pseudokoningii_ Rifai pulmonary infection in the Egyptian tuberculous dairy cattle with _Mycobacterium bovis_, from the heart of a generalized bovine TB in a cow over 5 years old, a mediastinal lymph node of pulmonary TB in a cow of 3 years old, and a lung of mixed pulmonary and digestive BTB in a cow of 4 years old. We have also developed a pathogenisity test technique for _Trichoderma pseudokoningii_ Rifai infection in 3 G. pigs by intraperitoneal injection of 2 G. pigs with mixed infection of _Mycobacterium bovis_ and _Trichoderma pseudokoningii_ Rifai; death of both animals 14 days, thereafter, and by injection of 1 G. pig with single infection of _Trichoderma pseudokoningii_ Rifai; death of animal 21 days, thereafter. IMPACT: Investigation of Mobile-user Patterns Across University Campuses using WLAN Trace Analysis
We conduct the most comprehensive study of WLAN traces to date. Measurements
collected from four major university campuses are analyzed with the aim of
developing fundamental understanding of realistic user behavior in wireless
networks. Both individual user and inter-node (group) behaviors are
investigated and two classes of metrics are devised to capture the underlying
structure of such behaviors.
For individual user behavior we observe distinct patterns in which most users
are 'on' for a small fraction of the time, the number of access points visited
is very small and the overall on-line user mobility is quite low. We clearly
identify categories of heavy and light users. In general, users exhibit high
degree of similarity over days and weeks.
For group behavior, we define metrics for encounter patterns and friendship.
Surprisingly, we find that a user, on average, encounters less than 6% of the
network user population within a month, and that encounter and friendship
relations are highly asymmetric. We establish that number of encounters follows
a biPareto distribution, while friendship indexes follow an exponential
distribution. We capture the encounter graph using a small world model, the
characteristics of which reach steady state after only one day.
We hope for our study to have a great impact on realistic modeling of network
usage and mobility patterns in wireless networks.Comment: 16 pages, 31 figure
The STRESS Method for Boundary-point Performance Analysis of End-to-end Multicast Timer-Suppression Mechanisms
Evaluation of Internet protocols usually uses random scenarios or scenarios
based on designers' intuition. Such approach may be useful for average-case
analysis but does not cover boundary-point (worst or best-case) scenarios. To
synthesize boundary-point scenarios a more systematic approach is needed.In
this paper, we present a method for automatic synthesis of worst and best case
scenarios for protocol boundary-point evaluation.
Our method uses a fault-oriented test generation (FOTG) algorithm for
searching the protocol and system state space to synthesize these scenarios.
The algorithm is based on a global finite state machine (FSM) model. We extend
the algorithm with timing semantics to handle end-to-end delays and address
performance criteria. We introduce the notion of a virtual LAN to represent
delays of the underlying multicast distribution tree. The algorithms used in
our method utilize implicit backward search using branch and bound techniques
and start from given target events. This aims to reduce the search complexity
drastically. As a case study, we use our method to evaluate variants of the
timer suppression mechanism, used in various multicast protocols, with respect
to two performance criteria: overhead of response messages and response time.
Simulation results for reliable multicast protocols show that our method
provides a scalable way for synthesizing worst-case scenarios automatically.
Results obtained using stress scenarios differ dramatically from those obtained
through average-case analyses. We hope for our method to serve as a model for

Dispersion Tailoring of the Quarter-Wave Bragg Reflection Waveguide
We present analytical formulae for the polarization dependent first- and second-order dispersion of a quarter-wave Bragg reflection waveguide (QtW-BRW). Using these formulae, we develop several qualitative properties of the QtW-BRW. In particular, we show that the birefringence of these waveguides changes sign at the QtW wavelength. Regimes of total dispersion corresponding to predominantly materialdominated and waveguide-dominated dispersion are identified. Using this concept, it is shown that the QtW-BRW can be designed so as to provide anomalous group velocity dispersion of large magnitude, or very small GVD of either sign, simply by an appropriate chose of layer thicknesses. Properties of the Quarter-Wave Bragg Reflection Waveguide: Theory
The Bragg reflection waveguide (BRW), or one-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide, has recently been proposed for a wide spectrum of applications ranging from particle acceleration to nonlinear frequency conversion. Here, we conduct a thorough analytical investigation of the quarter-wave BRW, in which the layers of the resonant cladding have a thickness corresponding to one quarter of the transverse wavelength of a desired guided mode. An analytical solution to the mode dispersion equation is derived, and it is shown that the quarter-wave BRW is polarization degenerate, although the TE and TM mode profiles differ significantly as the external Brewster’s angle condition in the cladding is approached. Analytical expressions for waveguide properties such as the modal normalization constants, propagation loss, and overlap factors between the mode and each waveguide layer are derived, as are dispersion and tuning curves
