REVENUE AND TAXATION Tax Sales: Create Judicial Tax Foreclosure Procedures to Aid Low Income Housing Development

    Get PDF
The Act creates judicial in rem tax foreclosure proceedings to avoid the inefficiency and lengthiness of nonjudicial foreclosure proceedings, which commonly result in nonmarketable and uninsurable titles to real property. The Act provides procedures and standards for the filing of a petition for foreclosure, a petition hearing, notice provisions, foreclosure sale, redemption and the form of the tax deed

An evaluation of instructional coaching at selected high schools in North Louisiana and its effect on student achievement, organizational climate, and teacher efficacy

The purpose of this study was to compare high schools in north Louisiana to determine if the presence or absence of instructional coaches influenced student achievement, organizational climate, and/or teacher efficacy in any significant manner. The 11 high schools in north Louisiana utilizing instructional coaches were matched to 11 high schools in the region that were not using instructional coaches and comparisons were made between the group performances in the areas of student achievement, organizational climate, and teacher efficacy. Student achievement data were determined based upon the percent proficient on the subtests of the 2009 administration of the Louisiana Graduate Exit Exam, (GEE). Organizational climate and teacher efficacy were measured using the Organizational Climate Description for Secondary Schools (OCDQ-RS) and the Teachers\u27 Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) where the mean scores were analyzed using the t-Test for Paired Samples. Mean differences in student achievement reflected positively toward the schools using instructional coaches though no significant differences were determined. Mean differences for the directive behaviors and general openness components of the OCDQ-RS and for the classroom management and overall efficacy components of the TSES were determined to be statistically significant (p\u3c.05)

Daring to Dream the Impossible Dream: An Identity-Based Motivation and Goal Setting Intervention for Aspiring First Generation College Students

Little can be predicted about what the jobs of the future may look like. The most likely path to success, though, is through a college education. College not only provides graduates high salaries and more job stability, it also develops critical thinking, enhances relationship skills, and is correlated with increased well-being. Unfortunately, college access is not equal. First generation college students, students of color, and students living in poverty are not as likely to attend and graduate from college. GPA and test scores can predict 25% of college success; the remaining 75% is unknown. This paper posits that part of that gap can be explained by social emotional skills. The paper begins with an overview of positive psychology and refutes the arguments against it, then narrows to discuss the role of positive psychology in education. While many avenues of positive psychology can be used in education, this paper focuses on prospective selves, goal-setting, and implementation interventions as a means to drive college motivation and academic behaviors and develops a two day intervention for approximately 1,100 ninth grade students in the Uplift Education charter network. This paper sets up the intervention and proposes ways to measure the outcomes. Finally, the paper concludes with a discussion of the implications for education equality in America

A high resolution solar atlas for fluorescence calculations

    Get PDF
The characteristics required of a solar atlas to be used for studying the fluorescence process in comets are examined. Several sources of low resolution data were combined to provide an absolutely calibrated spectrum from 2250 A to 7000A. Three different sources of high resolution data were also used to cover this same spectral range. The low resolution data were then used to put each high resolution spectrum on an absolute scale. The three high resolution spectra were then combined in their overlap regions to produce a single, absolutely calibrated high resolution spectrum over the entire spectral range

Next-to-next-to-leading order O(αs4){\cal O}(\alpha_s^4) results for heavy quark pair production in quark--antiquark collisions: The one-loop squared contributions

We calculate the next-to-next-to-leading order O(αs4){\cal O}(\alpha_s^4) one-loop squared corrections to the production of heavy quark pairs in quark-antiquark annihilations. These are part of the next-to-next-to-leading order O(αs4){\cal O}(\alpha_s^4) radiative QCD corrections to this process. Our results, with the full mass dependence retained, are presented in a closed and very compact form, in the dimensional regularization scheme. We have found very intriguing factorization properties for the finite part of the amplitudes.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, electronic results file, abbreviation NNLO in Title and Abstract expanded, Summary expanded, reference updated, version to appear in Phys.Rev.

A Feature-Augmented Grammar for Automated Media Production

The IST Polymnia project is creating a fully automated system for personalised video generation, including content creation, selection and composition. This paper presents a linguistically motivated solution using context-free feature-augmented grammar rules to describe editing tasks and hence automate video editing. The solution is media and application independent

One-loop amplitudes for four-point functions with two external massive quarks and two external massless partons up to O(epsilon^2)

We present complete analytical O(ϵ2){\mathcal O}(\epsilon^2) results on the one-loop amplitudes relevant for the NNLO quark-parton model description of the hadroproduction of heavy quarks as given by the so-called loop-by-loop contributions. All results of the perturbative calculation are given in the dimensional regularization scheme. These one-loop amplitudes can also be used as input in the determination of the corresponding NNLO cross sections for heavy flavor photoproduction, and in photon-photon reactions.Comment: 25 pages, 6 figures in the text, Revtex, one reference added, minor improvements in the text, to appear in Phys.Rev.
