An extensible product structure model for product lifecycle management in the make-to-order environment
This paper presents a product structure model with a semantic representation technique that make the product structure extensible for developing product lifecycle management (PLM) systems that is flexible for make-to-order environment. In the make-to-order business context, each product could have a number of variants with slightly different constitutions to fulfill different customer requirements. All the variants of a family have common characteristics and each variant has its specific features. A master-variant pattern is proposed for building the product structure model to explicitly represent common characteristics and specific features of individual variants. The model is capable of enforcing the consistency of a family structure and its variant structure, supporting multiple product views, and facilitating the business processes. A semantic representation technique is developed that enables entity attributes to be defined and entities to be categorized in a neutral and semantic format. As a result, entity attributes and entity categorization can be redefined easily with its configurable capability for different requirements of the PLM systems. An XML-based language is developed for semantically representing entities and entity categories. A prototype as a proof-of-concept system is presented to illustrate the capability of the proposed extensible product structure model
Long-term measurements of particle number size distributions and the relationships with air mass history and source apportionment in the summer of Beijing
A series of long-term and temporary measurements were conducted to study the improvement of air quality in Beijing during the Olympic Games period (8–24 August 2008). To evaluate actions taken to improve the air quality, comparisons of particle number and volume size distributions of August 2008 and 2004–2007 were performed. The total particle number and volume concentrations were 14 000 cm−3 and 37 μm−3 cm−3 in August of 2008, respectively. These were reductions of 41% and 35% compared with mean values of August 2004–2007. A cluster analysis on air mass history and source apportionment were performed, exploring reasons for the reduction of particle concentrations. Back trajectories were classified into five major clusters. Air masses from the south direction are always associated with pollution events during the summertime in Beijing. In August 2008, the frequency of air mass arriving from the south was 1.3 times higher compared to the average of the previous years, which however did not result in elevated particle volume concentrations in Beijing. Therefore, the reduced particle number and volume concentrations during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games cannot be only explained by meteorological conditions. Four factors were found influencing particle concentrations using a positive matrix factorization (PMF) model. They were identified as local and remote traffic emissions, combustion sources as well as secondary transformation. The reductions of the four sources were calculated to 47%, 44%, 43% and 30%, respectively. The significant reductions of particle number and volume concentrations may attribute to actions taken, focusing on primary emissions, especially related to the traffic and combustion sources

The roles of sulfuric acid in new particle formation and growth in the mega-city of Beijing
Simultaneous measurements of gaseous sulfuric acid and particle number size distributions were performed to investigate aerosol nucleation and growth during CAREBeijing-2008. The analysis of the measured aerosols and sulfuric acid with an aerosol dynamic model shows the dominant role of sulfuric acid in new particle formation (NPF) process but also in the subsequent growth in Beijing. Based on the data of twelve NPF events, the average formation rates (2–13 cm−3 s−1) show a linear correlation with the sulfuric acid concentrations (R2=0.85). Coagulation seems to play a significant role in reducing the number concentration of nucleation mode particles with the ratio of the coagulation loss to formation rate being 0.41±0.16. The apparent growth rates vary from 3 to 11 nm h−1. Condensation of sulfuric acid and its subsequent neutralization by ammonia and coagulation contribute to the apparent particle growth on average 45±18% and 34±17%, respectively. The 30% higher concentration of sulfate than organic compounds in particles during the seven sulfur-rich NPF events but 20% lower concentration of sulfate during the five sulfur-poor type suggest that organic compounds are an important contributor to the growth of the freshly nucleated particles, especially during the sulfur-poor cases
Transport Measurements on Nano-engineered Two Dimensional Superconducting Wire Networks
Superconducting triangular Nb wire networks with high normal-state resistance
are fabricated by using a negative tone hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ) resist.
Robust magnetoresistance oscillations are observed up to high magnetic fields
and maintained at low temperatures, due to the eective reduction of wire
dimensions. Well-defined dips appear at integral and rational values (1/2, 1/3,
1/4) of the reduced flux f = Phi/Phi_0, which is the first observation in the
triangular wire networks. These results are well consistent with theoretical
calculations for the reduced critical temperature as a function of f.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Electronic structure and dynamics of optically excited single-wall carbon nanotubes
We have studied the electronic structure and charge-carrier dynamics of
individual single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and nanotube ropes using
optical and electron-spectroscopic techniques. The electronic structure of
semiconducting SWNTs in the band-gap region is analyzed using near-infrared
absorption spectroscopy. A semi-empirical expression for
transition energies, based on tight-binding calculations is found to give
striking agreement with experimental data. Time-resolved PL from dispersed
SWNT-micelles shows a decay with a time constant of about 15 ps. Using
time-resolved photoemission we also find that the electron-phonon ({\it e-ph})
coupling in metallic tubes is characterized by a very small {\it e-ph}
mass-enhancement of 0.0004. Ultrafast electron-electron scattering of
photo-excited carriers in nanotube ropes is finally found to lead to internal
thermalization of the electronic system within about 200 fs.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, submitted to Applied Physics
Effects of Exogenous Cellulase Source on In Vitro Fermentation Characteristics and Methane Production of Crop Straws and Grasses
In vitro fermentation experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of 3 sources of
exogenous cellulase products (EC) at 4 dose rates (DR) (0, 12, 37 and 62 IU/g of DM) on degradation
of forage and methane production by mixed rumen micro-organisms of goats. The maximum gas
production (Vf) of grasses was higher (P<0.001) in Neocallimastix patriciarum (NP) group than those in
Trichoderma reesei (TR) and Trichoderma longibrachiatum (TL) groups. Quadratic increases in dry
matter degradation (DMD) of forage and neutral detergent fiber (NDFD) of straw were observed for all
EC, with optimum DR in the low range. Supplementation of EC originated from TR and NP increased
(P<0.001) DMD of forage compared to that from TL. Addition of EC originated from TR and NP also
decreased pH value, ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) and methane (CH4) production compared to that from
TL. Quadratic decreases in pH value, NH3-N and CH4 of forage were noted for EC of TR and NP, and
with optimum DR in the low range. For short chain fatty acid, the EC of NP increased total volatile
fatty acid (TVFA) and acetate concentration and the ratio of acetate to propionate of forage compared
with EC of TL and TR, and with optimum DR in the low to medium range. It was concluded that the
source of EC differed in fiber degradation and methane emission, and with optimum DR of TR in the
low range (from 12 to 37 U/g DM) in improving fiber degradation and decreasing methane emission
Cytogenetic and molecular identification of a new wheat-Thinopyrum intermedium addition line with resistance to powdery mildew
Thinopyrum intermedium, which has many useful traits, is valuable for wheat breeding. A new wheat-Thinopyrum addition line, SN100109, was developed from the progeny of common wheat cultivar Yannong 15 and Th. intermedium. It was resistant to most races of Blumeria graminis f. sp tritici (Bgt), which caused powdery mildew in wheat, and its reactions were different from the reactions of gene Pm40 and Pm43. Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) and molecular marker analysis were used to identify the genomic composition of SN100109. GISH results showed that SN100109 was a wheat-Th. intermedium disomic addition line containing one pair of J chromosomes, and the resistance gene was located on the alien additional chromosomes of SN100109. And four molecular markers BE425942, BF482714, Xgdm93 and BV679214 which were assigned to homologous group 2, were specific molecular markers of the additional chromosomes. All the results indicated that SN100109 contained one pair of 2J chromosomes. SN100109 can be used as a novel germplasm source for introducing powdery mildew resistance genes to wheat in breeding programs
A Ordem de Cristo no contexto de uma economia de mercês. Critérios de provimento de cargos e ofícios nos séculos XVII e XVIII: o caso da capitania do Espírito Santo
Neste trabalho, partimos do conceito original de ordem religioso-militar e
dissertamos sobre a história da Ordem de Cristo, a qual identificamos e
descrevemos as origens medievais como ordem religioso-militar e a sua criação ou fundação por necessidade estratégica da monarquia portuguesa para proteger e manter o patrimônio templário no território português. Seguimos para a descrição de um panorama do Brasil colonial inserido no Império ultramarino português, as suas estruturas e práticas político-administrativas com ênfase no sistema de capitanias hereditárias e do governo-geral criados pela monarquia portuguesa. Apresentamos a discussão da dualidade MetrópoleColônia e a busca do controle político e administrativo periférico pelo centro do poder português. Em continuação, abordamos a consolidação de uma economia de mercês, que atuava na seleção de servidores para a burocracia no reino e nas conquistas ultramarinas
portuguesas. Assim, na época moderna desenha-se um novo modelo de cavaleiro das ordens militares que se definia como servidor destacado do rei, limpo de sangue e com cabedal que lhe permitisse não sujar as mãos com trabalho e então o interesse nas ordens militares, em particular pelo hábito da Ordem de Cristo, generaliza-se por toda a sociedade portuguesa. Concluindo o trabalho, caracterizamos a formação da capitania do Espírito Santo e a partir de fontes manuscritas e impressas que abarcam os séculos XVII e XVIII dissertamos sobre as inflexões de uma economia de mercês que se consolidava e sobre a presença da Ordem de Cristo em um contexto regional de provimento de cargos e ofícios na capitania do Espírito Santo
Relation Between Chiral Susceptibility and Solutions of Gap Equation in Nambu--Jona-Lasinio Model
We study the solutions of the gap equation, the thermodynamic potential and
the chiral susceptibility in and beyond the chiral limit at finite chemical
potential in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. We give an explicit relation
between the chiral susceptibility and the thermodynamic potential in the NJL
model. We find that the chiral susceptibility is a quantity being able to
represent the furcation of the solutions of the gap equation and the
concavo-convexity of the thermodynamic potential in NJL model. It indicates
that the chiral susceptibility can identify the stable state and the
possibility of the chiral phase transition in NJL model.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures, misprints are correcte
Quantum cellular automata quantum computing with endohedral fullerenes
We present a scheme to perform universal quantum computation using global
addressing techniques as applied to a physical system of endohedrally doped
fullerenes. The system consists of an ABAB linear array of Group V endohedrally
doped fullerenes. Each molecule spin site consists of a nuclear spin coupled
via a Hyperfine interaction to an electron spin. The electron spin of each
molecule is in a quartet ground state . Neighboring molecular electron
spins are coupled via a magnetic dipole interaction. We find that an
all-electron construction of a quantum cellular automata is frustrated due to
the degeneracy of the electronic transitions. However, we can construct a
quantum celluar automata quantum computing architecture using these molecules
by encoding the quantum information on the nuclear spins while using the
electron spins as a local bus. We deduce the NMR and ESR pulses required to
execute the basic cellular automata operation and obtain a rough figure of
merit for the the number of gate operations per decoherence time. We find that
this figure of merit compares well with other physical quantum computer
proposals. We argue that the proposed architecture meets well the first four
DiVincenzo criteria and we outline various routes towards meeting the fifth
