THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIAL SUPPORT AND ACADEMIC STRESS AMONG FIRST YEAR STUDENTS AT SYIAH KUALA UNIVERSITY
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between social support and academic stress among first year students at Syiah Kuala University (UNSYIAH). Data was collected through questionnaires. The respondents were first year students at UNSYIAH (n = 364) with ranging age from 16 to 21. Respondents completed the Multi Dimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and Student Life Stress Inventory (SLSI). Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to analyze the relationship between social support and academic stress among first year students. The results revealed that the sample reported moderate levels of social support and academic stress. Students with high level of social support, reported low level of academic stress
Employee turnover intention among Millennials: The role of psychological well-being and experienced workplace incivility
High turnover intention is a problem in the workforce today. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between experienced workplace incivility and psychological well-being on turnover intention. The subjects of this study were 46 millennial employees who had worked for at least three months. Data were collected with turnover intention scale, experienced workplace incivility scale, and psychological well-being scale. Partial Least Square PLS-SEM analysis was used to analyze the data. Findings indicate that experienced workplace incivility is positively related to turnover intention, while psychological well-being is negatively related to employee turnover intention. The results show that workplace incivility affects employee turnover intention higher than psychological well-being for millennial employees. Connections and communality are characteristics of millennial employees; therefore, they consider that the environment is essential. Therefore, it is essential for employers to develop a work condition that minimalizes experienced workplace incivility and improves the psychological well-being of their employees to reduce turnover intention among millennial employees.Â
Life style behaviors as contributing factors of depression among university students
This study was proposed to evaluate student’s life style behaviors as contributing factors of depression. Life style is very significant to predict mental and physical health. This study highlighted the importance of life style behaviors as predicating factors of depression. Students now a day's having challenging life style and having maladaptive behavior to handle stressors which eventually drain their productive skills to be active and healthy. Research design was cross sectional survey method, students (N=240), age (18-30 years) (Mean=22.0) were selected through randomly sampling from different faculties of Sultan Idris Education University. Structured questionnaire were used to assess the demographic information. Life style behaviors, including diet patterns, physical activity, study habits, social support, and mobile usage, financial stress, shopping behavior and sleep quality were measured by using Lifestyle Behavior Questionnaire. Depression was assessed by using Beck depression inventory. Results highlighted that students diet patterns, sleep patterns, social interaction and obsessed gadgets were significantly predicting depression among university students (p<.000). The study found the importance of life style behavior and depressive symptoms among students. This study is helpful for students and academician to increase their understanding about healthy life style behavior. Study results emphasis to enhance students healthy life style to promote healthy mental health
Determining the reliability of the emotional competency module on Malaysian adolescents
This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Emotional Competency Module developed specifically for adolescents in Malaysia to help address the huge delinquent behavior cases in Malaysia. Method: This module is one of the modules that was developed based on Daniel Goleman’s four emotion competency constructs. The module reliability instrument was developed based on the objectives of the activities in the module. A pilot test was conducted to measure the reliability of the module. After the pilot test, 19 participants were asked to answer the module reliability instrument and later on a Cronbach’s alpha value was analysed. Results: All the four domains and the overall module activities items showed very high reliability values. The reliability value showed that the module had a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.968 to 0.826. The reliability value of the overall module was 0.985. Implications: The findings of the study suggest that the module is effective for adolescents as each activity successfully achieved its objectives. This module also serves as a guideline for psychologists, counsellors and teachers to provide emotional competence training for adolescents. This study provides a new module to train emotional competency specifically for adolescents in Malaysia. Study is significant to provide and prove a new ECM module activities for youngster to improve their emotional well-being
Job satisfaction, psychological contracts, and turnover intention: Role of social support as a mediator
Employee turnover is a classic problem that is often faced by entrepreneurs. The behavior of employees who move from one company to another can be an indication of employee dissatisfaction with the company and the lack of good relations between employees and the company. Social support can increase the likelihood that employees will be tied to work as social support can help individuals overcome work problems. The sample of this research was 274 retail company sales employees in Purwokerto. Data were collected using the work satisfaction scale, psychological contract scale, and turnover intention questionnaire. The results showed that there was no effect on job satisfaction and Psychological contracts on Turnover Intention by using social support as a mediating variable, VAF was less than 20%. While the relationship between psychological contracts and turnover intention is significant

Emotional competency issues faced by youths in Malaysia
Introduction Researchers portray the possibility that emotional competency issues among adolescents can cause behavioural problems in future. They are at risk of becoming dissatisfied and unhappy teenagers and may choose to become involved in negative activities such as gangsterism, bullying, drug abuse, sexual misconduct, and crime” (Kuldas et al, 2015). The aim of the study is to explore emotional issues that are more evident among youngsters. Method Interviews were conducted with 14 professionals and 13 students from the Tunas Bakti schools, secondary schools and universities. Results Through thematic analysis using the MAXQDA software revealed nine themes which are professional competency, living environment, relationship management, self-management, social awareness, self-awareness, juvenile institution negative and juvenile institution positive and ways of coping. Future recommendations, Future studies can help investigate the new findings discovered in the thematic analysis such as the professional competency. Meanwhile, studies in overcoming issues involved in the living environment theme can be explored further
Validation of the emotional competency module
This study is a design and development-based research which intends to develop a module specifically to be implemented on adolescents to help enhance their emotional competence and also to test the content validity ofthemodule. Seven professionals with experience in dealing with adolescent emotional issues were recruited to validate the module. A rating scale based on this is constructed to be evaluated by the professionals. The overall validity was calculated based on the percentage of agreement between the professionals. The Emotional Competency Module received an overall validity rating of 85.6%. Therefore, there is evidence that shows that this module is suitable to be implemented to enhance the emotional competency level of adolescents
Prevalence of psychological disorders among patients attending community health centers, Perak, Malaysia
Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the prevalence of psychological disorders among community health centers in Batang Padang district Perak. Material & Methods: To conduct this study survey research method was used, seven community health centers in Batang Padang District, Perak were contacted to collect data from (N=216) respondents, who attended health facilities in Batang Padang District. There is no age limit, no education difference and no other requirement needed. Instrument and Materials: Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) PRIME Screen and PRIME MD Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ). Results: Data collected from seven health community centers revealed that prevalence of Stress 86%, anxiety 124%, depression 67, psychotic symptoms 16%, somatoform symptoms 52%, panic symptoms 28%, and substance abuse 21%. the higher prevalence was stress and depression among people attending health centers. Conclusion: Results findings indicated that there is significant prevalence of psychological disorder among community health centers. Analysis of the results help us to determine that there is strong need to provide psychological services, awareness and education plan, management and prevention for psychological disorder
