On pseudo semisimple rings
Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, Mathematics, Izmir, 2013Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 37-38)Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and Englishvii, 38 leavesIn this thesis, we give a survey of right pseudo semisimple rings and prove some new results about these rings. Namely, we prove that a right pseudo semisimple ring is an internal exchange ring and a right pseudo semisimple ring is an SSP ring. We also give a complete characterization of right and left pseudo semisimple rings
Sustainable, efficient approaches to renewable platform chemicals and polymers
Environmental concerns have led to an increased demand for renewable materials in recent years. Efficient approaches, like metal-free organocatalysis, olefin metathesis and thiol-ene coupling, offer the potential of increased sustainability and comparatively lower production costs (besides olefin metathesis). Thus, the following work is performed with the attempt to meet both, making use of oils as renewable feedstock, and using sustainable, efficient approaches as valuable synthetic tools
Getting the Terms Right: Green, Sustainable, or Circular Chemistry?
Green chemistry, sustainable chemistry, and circular chemistry are important concepts for the modern lifestyle, current research directions, and worldwide industries. These three concepts are closely related and interconnected but cannot be used synonymously. In addition, they are addressing two different economic models, i.e., linear economy and circular economy. The current contribution focuses on the importance of these decisive chemistries for the development of a sustainable future and their role in the realm of circular economy and the planetary boundaries framework—especially for the planetary boundary of “novel entities.” Researchers active in the field of polymer chemistry play an important role as plastic pollution and resource in addition to environmental depletion, caused by the still increasing production of polymers and plastics, become more and more pronounced. It is also reported that multi- and interdisciplinary approaches are needed to develop solutions for a sustainable future
Monomial structures, I
The goal of a series of papers is to define -actions on various
-fibered structures, where is a finite group and is an abelian
group. One prominent such example is the -fibered Burnside ring. If
, it is also called the ring of monomial representations
(introduced by Dress in \cite{Dress1971}) and is the natural home for the
canonical induction formula (see \cite{Boltje1990}). In this first part of the
series, motivated by constructions in \cite{BoucMutlu}, we introduce
-fibered structures on posets, on abstract simplicial complexes, and on
-bundles over topological spaces, together with natural notions of homotopy,
and functors between these structures respecting homotopy. In a sequel we will
continue with -representations in these -fibered structures and associate
to them elements in the -fibered Burnside ring
The Vibrant Interplay of Light and Self-Reporting Macromolecular Architectures
Inspired by nature, notable efforts have been made towards the exploration of self-reporting polymers within the last decades. Whereas the majority of the previously reported self-reporting polymers deliberately relies on a diverse set of mechanisms triggered via different stimuli (e.g., mechanical, thermal, pH, solvation, light, and chemical amongst others), light plays a ubiquitous role not only as a remote trigger, but also as non-destructive readout signal for the practical applications of self-reporting polymers. Due to the ever-growing interest within the respective field (e.g., load bearing materials, nanotechnology, biomedicine, or theranostics), herein a synthetic overview is presented with the aim to provide an informative perspective on challenges facing the vibrant interplay of light and self-reporting macromolecular architectures
The toolbox of porous anodic aluminum oxide–based nanocomposites: from preparation to application
Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates have been intensively investigated during the past decades and have meanwhile been widely applied through both sacrificial and non-sacrificial pathways. In numerous non-sacrificial applications, the AAO membrane is maintained as part of the obtained composite materials; hence, the template structure and topography determine to a great extent the potential applications. Through-hole isotropic AAO features nanochannels that promote transfer of matter, while anisotropic AAO with barrier layer exhibits nanocavities suitable as independent and homogenous containers. By combining the two kinds of AAO membranes with diverse organic and inorganic materials through physical interactions or chemical bonds, AAO composites are designed and applied in versatile fields such as catalysis, drug release platform, separation membrane, optical appliances, sensors, cell culture, energy, and electronic devices. Therefore, within this review, a perspective on exhilarating prospect for complementary advancement on AAO composites both in preparation and application is provided
Synthesis and Post-Polymerization Modification of Poly(N-(4-Vinylphenyl)Sulfonamide)s
Herein, a straightforward synthesis of a novel class of polymers, that is, poly(N-(4-vinylphenyl)sulfonamide)s, and their monomers is reported. A set of monomers with varying electron densities, fine-tuned by different substituents on the aromatic sulfonamide moiety, is polymerized by free radical polymerization featuring low molar masses (2300 ≤ M ≤ 3200 g mol) and low dispersities (1.15 ≤ Đ ≤ 1.47). Further, the post-polymerization modification of the obtained polymers via aza-Michael addition with electron-deficient alkenes is demonstrated using organic superbases as catalysts, paving the way toward the facile synthesis of novel polymeric protected β-amino acid derivatives
SUSAN CASEY’S VOICES IN THE OCEAN, OR A CALL FOR A MORE POLYPHONIC WORLD
Susan Casey’s Voices in the Ocean: A Journey into the Wild and Haunting World of Dolphins was published in 2015. It became a New York Times bestseller in its first week and was also chosen as one of Amazon’s Best Books of 2016 (About Susan, n.d.). It has received critical acclaim mainly because of the writer’s archival research into her subject matter, namely dolphins and her ability to merge the personal with the ecocritical despite some criticism directed at the writer for her supposed tendency to mysticism and coverage of topics which the reader might already be familiar with. However, for a reader who is new to the world of dolphins and wants to learn about them from a book, rather than documentaries, Casey’s Voices could provide a thought-provoking perspective as well as useful insights
