Weak Lensing Reconstruction by Counting DECaLS Galaxies
Alternative to weak lensing measurements through cosmic shear, we present a
weak lensing convergence map reconstructed through cosmic
magnification effect in DECaLS galaxies of the DESI imaging surveys DR9. This
is achieved by linearly weighing maps of galaxy number overdensity in
different magnitude bins of photometry bands. The weight is designed to
eliminate the mean galaxy deterministic bias, minimize galaxy shot noise while
maintaining the lensing convergence signal. We also perform corrections of
imaging systematics in the galaxy number overdensity. The map
has deg sky coverage. Given the low number density of DECaLS
galaxies, the map is overwhelmed by shot noise and the map
quality is difficult to evaluate using the lensing auto-correlation.
Alternatively, we measure its cross-correlation with the cosmic shear catalogs
of DECaLS galaxies of DESI imaging surveys DR8, which has deg
overlap in sky coverage with the map. We detect a
convergence-shear cross-correlation signal with . The analysis
also shows that the galaxy intrinsic clustering is suppressed by a factor
and the residual galaxy clustering contamination in the
map is consistent with zero. Various tests with different galaxy
and shear samples, and the Akaike information criterion analysis all support
the lensing detection. So is the imaging systematics corrections, which enhance
the lensing signal detection by . We discuss various issues for
further improvement of the measurements
Vaccines for African swine fever: an update
African swine fever (ASF) is a fatal infectious disease of swine caused by the African swine fever virus (ASFV). Currently, the disease is listed as a legally notifiable disease that must be reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). The economic losses to the global pig industry have been insurmountable since the outbreak of ASF. Control and eradication of ASF are very critical during the current pandemic. Vaccination is the optimal strategy to prevent and control the ASF epidemic, but since inactivated ASFV vaccines have poor immune protection and there aren’t enough cell lines for efficient in vitro ASFV replication, an ASF vaccine with high immunoprotective potential still remains to be explored. Knowledge of the course of disease evolution, the way of virus transmission, and the breakthrough point of vaccine design will facilitate the development of an ASF vaccine. In this review, the paper aims to highlight the recent advances and breakthroughs in the epidemic and transmission of ASF, virus mutation, and the development of vaccines in recent years, focusing on future directions and trends
CSST forecast: impact from non-Gaussian covariances and requirements on systematics-control
The precise estimation of the statistical errors and accurate removal of the
systematical errors are the two major challenges for the stage IV cosmic shear
surveys. We explore their impact for the China Space-Station Telescope (CSST)
with survey area up to redshift . We consider
statistical error contributed from Gaussian covariance, connected non-Gaussian
covariance and super-sample covariance. We find the super-sample covariance can
largely reduce the signal-to-noise of the two-point statistics for CSST,
leading to a loss in the figure-of-merit for the matter clustering
properties ( plane) and in the dark energy
equation-of-state ( plane). We further put requirements of
systematics-mitigation on: intrinsic alignment of galaxies, baryonic feedback,
shear multiplicative bias, and bias in the redshift distribution, for an
unbiased cosmology. The to level requirements emphasize
strong needs in related studies, to support future model selections and the
associated priors for the nuisance parameters.Comment: submitted to MNRA
20(S)-Protopanaxadiol Inhibits Titanium Particle-Induced Inflammatory Osteolysis and RANKL-Mediated Osteoclastogenesis via MAPK and NF-κB Signaling Pathways
Osteolysis is a principal reason for arthroplasty failure like aseptic loosening induced by Titanium (Ti) particle. It is a challenge for orthopedic surgeons. Recent researches show that 20(S)-protopanaxadiol can inhibit inflammatory cytokine release in vitro. This study aims to assess the effect of 20(S)-protopanaxadiol on Ti particle-induced osteolysis and RANKL-mediated osteoclastogenesis. Micro-CT and histological analysis in vivo indicated the inhibitory effects of 20(S)-protopanaxadiol on osteoclastogenesis and the excretion of inflammatory cytokines. Next, we demonstrated that 20(S)-protopanaxadiol inhibited osteoclast differentiation, bone resorption area, and F-actin ring formation in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, mechanistic studies suggested that the suppression of MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways were found to mediate the inhibitory effects of 20(S)-protopanaxadiol. In conclusion, 20(S)-protopanaxadiol may suppress osteoclastogenesis in a dose- dependent manner and it could be a potential treatment of Ti particle-induced osteolysis
Focusing and Wavefront Splitting of an Extreme Ultraviolet Laser with a Tubular Optical Element
A capillary discharge extreme ultraviolet laser is focused and wavefront split at 46.9 nm by a tubular optical element. The reflectivity at 46.9 nm is both simulated and measured to be higher than 90% with a slight optical aberration. The operating principle of the tubular element for focusing and wavefront splitting is discussed. Dense and intense grating-like fringes with a period of ~150 nm are achieved. The method used in this work allows nano-scale processing with extreme ultraviolet laser at single-shot exposure mode
Putative C2H2 Transcription Factor <i>AflZKS3</i> Regulates Aflatoxin and Pathogenicity in <i>Aspergillus flavus</i>
Aflatoxin is a carcinogenic secondary metabolite that poses a serious threat to human and animal health. Some C2H2 transcription factors are associated with fungal growth and secondary metabolic regulation. In this study, we characterized the role of AflZKS3, a putative C2H2 transcription factor based on genome annotation, in the growth and aflatoxin biosynthesis of A. flavus and explored its possible mechanisms of action. Surprisingly, the protein was found to be located in the cytoplasm, and gene deletion in A. flavus resulted in defective growth and conidia formation, as well as increased sensitivity to the fluorescent brightener Calcofluor white, Congo red, NaCl, and sorbitol stress. Notably, the biosynthesis of aflatoxin B1 was completely inhibited in the ΔAflZKS3 deletion strain, and its ability to infect peanut and corn seeds was also reduced. RNA sequencing showed that differentially expressed genes in the ΔAflZKS3 strain compared with the control and complementation strains were mainly associated with growth, aflatoxin biosynthesis, and oxidative stress. Thus, AflZKS3 likely contributes to growth, cell development, and aflatoxin synthesis in A. flavus. These findings lay the foundation for a deeper understanding of the roles of C2H2 transcription factors in A. flavus and provide a potential biocontrol target for preventing aflatoxin contamination
Laser machining fundamentals: micro, nano, atomic and close-to-atomic scales
With the rapid development in advanced industries, such as microelectronics and optics sectors, the functional feature size of devises/components has been decreasing from micro to nanometric, and even ACS for higher performance, smaller volume and lower energy consumption. By this time, a great many quantum structures are proposed, with not only an extreme scale of several or even single atom, but also a nearly ideal lattice structure with no material defect. It is almost no doubt that such structures play critical role in the next generation products, which shows an urgent demand for the ACSM. Laser machining is one of the most important approaches widely used in engineering and scientific research. It is high-efficient and applicable for most kinds of materials. Moreover, the processing scale covers a huge range from millimeters to nanometers, and has already touched the atomic level. Laser–material interaction mechanism, as the foundation of laser machining, determines the machining accuracy and surface quality. It becomes much more sophisticated and dominant with a decrease in processing scale, which is systematically reviewed in this article. In general, the mechanisms of laser-induced material removal are classified into ablation, CE and atomic desorption, with a decrease in the scale from above microns to angstroms. The effects of processing parameters on both fundamental material response and machined surface quality are discussed, as well as theoretical methods to simulate and understand the underlying mechanisms. Examples at nanometric to atomic scale are provided, which demonstrate the capability of laser machining in achieving the ultimate precision and becoming a promising approach to ACSM
Transcriptome Profiling Reveals Molecular Responses to Salt Stress in Common Vetch (<i>Vicia sativa</i> L.)
Common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) is an important annual diploid leguminous forage. In the present study, transcriptomic profiling in common vetch in response to salt stress was conducted using a salt-tolerant line (460) and a salt-sensitive line (429). The common responses in common vetch and the specific responses associated with salt tolerance in 460 were analyzed. Several KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) pathways, including plant hormone and MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) signaling, galactose metabolism, and phenylpropanoid phenylpropane biosynthesis, were enriched in both lines, though some differentially expressed genes (DEGs) showed distinct expression patterns. The roots in 460 showed higher levels of lignin than in 429. α-linolenic acid metabolism, carotenoid biosynthesis, the photosynthesis-antenna pathway, and starch and sucrose metabolism pathways were specifically enriched in salt-tolerant line 460, with higher levels of accumulated soluble sugars in the leaves. In addition, higher transcript levels of genes involved in ion homeostasis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging were observed in 460 than in 429 in response to salt stress. The transcriptomic analysis in common vetch in response to salt stress provides useful clues for further investigations on salt tolerance mechanism in the future
