Relic density at one-loop with gauge boson pair production
We have computed the full one-loop corrections (electroweak as well as QCD)
to processes contributing to the relic density of dark matter in the MSSM where
the LSP is the lightest neutralino. We cover scenarios where the most important
channels are those with gauge boson pair production. This includes the case of
a bino with some wino admixture, a higgsino and a wino. In this paper we
specialise to the case of light dark matter much below the TeV scale. The
corrections can have a non-negligible impact on the predictions and should be
taken into account in view of the present and forthcoming increasing precision
on the relic density measurements. Our calculations are made with the help of
\SloopS, an automatic tool for the calculation of one-loop processes in the
MSSM. The renormalisation scheme dependence of the results as concerns \tgb
is studied.Comment: 25 pages, 10 figures, Citations adde
CMBR Constraint on a Modified Chaplygin Gas Model
In this paper, a modified Chaplygin gas model of unifying dark energy and
dark matter with exotic equation of state
which can also explain the recent accelerated expansion of the universe is
investigated by the means of constraining the location of the peak of the CMBR
spectrum. We find that the result of CMBR measurements does not exclude the
nonzero value of parameter , but allows it in the range .Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Microwave intermodulation distortion of MgB2 thin films
The two tone intermodulation arising in MgB2 thin films deposited in-situ by
planar magnetron sputtering on sapphire substrates is studied. Samples are
characterised using an open-ended dielectric puck resonator operating at 8.8
GHz. The experimental results show that the third order products increase with
the two-tone input power with a slope ranging between 1.5 and 2.3. The
behaviour can be understood introducing a mechanism of vortex penetration in
grain boundaries as the most plausible source of non linearities in these
films. This assumption is confirmed by the analysis of the field dependence of
the surface resistance, that show a linear behaviour at all temperatures under
test.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures; to be published in Appl. Phys. Let
Topological Effects caused by the Fractal Substrate on the Nonequilibrium Critical Behavior of the Ising Magnet
The nonequilibrium critical dynamics of the Ising magnet on a fractal
substrate, namely the Sierpinski carpet with Hausdorff dimension =1.7925,
has been studied within the short-time regime by means of Monte Carlo
simulations. The evolution of the physical observables was followed at
criticality, after both annealing ordered spin configurations (ground state)
and quenching disordered initial configurations (high temperature state), for
three segmentation steps of the fractal. The topological effects become evident
from the emergence of a logarithmic periodic oscillation superimposed to a
power law in the decay of the magnetization and its logarithmic derivative and
also from the dependence of the critical exponents on the segmentation step.
These oscillations are discussed in the framework of the discrete scale
invariance of the substrate and carefully characterized in order to determine
the critical temperature of the second-order phase transition and the critical
exponents corresponding to the short-time regime. The exponent of the
initial increase in the magnetization was also obtained and the results suggest
that it would be almost independent of the fractal dimension of the susbstrate,
provided that is close enough to d=2.Comment: 9 figures, 3 tables, 10 page
Numerical Simulation of Magnetic Interactions in Polycrystalline YFeO3
The magnetic behavior of polycrystalline yttrium orthoferrite was studied
from the experimental and theoretical points of view. Magnetization
measurements up to 170 kOe were carried out on a single-phase YFeO3 sample
synthesized from heterobimetallic alkoxides. The complex interplay between
weak-ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions, observed in the
experimental M(H) curves, was successfully simulated by locally minimizing the
magnetic energy of two interacting Fe sublattices. The resulting values of
exchange field (H_E = 5590 kOe), anisotropy field (H_A = 0.5 kOe) and
Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya antisymmetric field (H_D = 149 kOe) are in good agreement
with previous reports on this system.Comment: 26 pages, 9 figure

Influence of Fermion Velocity Renormalization on Dynamical Mass Generation in QED
We study dynamical fermion mass generation in (2+1)-dimensional quantum
electrodynamics with a gauge field coupling to massless Dirac fermions and
non-relativistic scalar bosons. We calculate the fermion velocity
renormalization and then examine its influence on dynamical mass generation by
using the Dyson-Schwinger equation. It is found that dynamical mass generation
takes place even after including the scalar bosons as long as the bosonic
compressibility parameter is sufficiently small. In addition, the fermion
velocity renormalization enhances the dynamically generated mass.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, Chinese Physics Letter, Vol 29, page 057401(2012
TUMK-ELM: A fast unsupervised heterogeneous data learning approach
© 2013 IEEE. Advanced unsupervised learning techniques are an emerging challenge in the big data era due to the increasing requirements of extracting knowledge from a large amount of unlabeled heterogeneous data. Recently, many efforts of unsupervised learning have been done to effectively capture information from heterogeneous data. However, most of them are with huge time consumption, which obstructs their further application in the big data analytics scenarios, where an enormous amount of heterogeneous data are provided but real-time learning are strongly demanded. In this paper, we address this problem by proposing a fast unsupervised heterogeneous data learning algorithm, namely two-stage unsupervised multiple kernel extreme learning machine (TUMK-ELM). TUMK-ELM alternatively extracts information from multiple sources and learns the heterogeneous data representation with closed-form solutions, which enables its extremely fast speed. As justified by theoretical evidence, TUMK-ELM has low computational complexity at each stage, and the iteration of its two stages can be converged within finite steps. As experimentally demonstrated on 13 real-life data sets, TUMK-ELM gains a large efficiency improvement compared with three state-of-the-art unsupervised heterogeneous data learning methods (up to 140 000 times) while it achieves a comparable performance in terms of effectiveness
The spontaneous emergence of ordered phases in crumpled sheets
X-ray tomography is performed to acquire 3D images of crumpled aluminum
foils. We develop an algorithm to trace out the labyrinthian paths in the three
perpendicular cross sections of the data matrices. The tangent-tangent
correlation function along each path is found to decay exponentially with an
effective persistence length that shortens as the crumpled ball becomes more
compact. In the mean time, we observed ordered domains near the crust, similar
to the lamellae phase mixed by the amorphous portion in lyotropic liquid
crystals. The size and density of these domains grow with further compaction,
and their orientation favors either perpendicular or parallel to the radial
direction. Ordering is also identified near the core with an arbitrary
orientation, exemplary of the spontaneous symmetry breaking
