The objective of this project was to utilize signals emitted by from the operational satellites of the GPS Global Positioning System in the relative mode (differential mode) to provide positions on moving watercraft with the accuracy required for the respective application. At the Institute of Geodesy, two program systems are available as a basis for the above activities and associated investigations. These are the program systems GEONAV (GEOdetic NAVigation software) and GEONAP (GEOdetic NAVstar Positioning software). The proper functioning of the two analyzing concepts GEONAV and GEONAV was proved based on various data records during post processing. The objective now was to develop an operational system in order to provide the user with the desired information in real time or with a short delay. The investigations and work under this project were focused on three main objectives: 1) real-time applications within an accuracy range of 1-10 meters); 2) development of purposeful post-processing methods for accuracy requirements within the subdecimeter range; and 3) utilization of GPS for three-dimensional attitude determination of moving platforms. The Institut fuer Erdmessung of the University of Hannover established a gravimetric base network to observe vertical crustal movements along german coastlines. It consists of 10 stations in the vicinity of important tide gauges (Bremerhaven, Cuxhaven, Hegoland, Buesum, List/Sylt, Luebeck, Wismar, Rostock, Sassnitz, Koserow) and three reference stations with at least 150 km coast distance. IfE performed gravity observations with the JILAG-3 absolute gravimeter at these stations. The instrument was equipped with a new iodine stabilised laser (frequency stability of 1-2-10"-"1"0). Additional seismic registrations were used for station selection and for the analysis of JILAG-3 measurements. The gravity differences between the stations were supplementary measured by the help of relative gravimeters (LaCoste and Romberg and Scintrex). The derived gravity values had an accuracy of 0.05 #mu#m/s"2. Gravimetric tides were registrated at three stations to verify the known models for reduction of non-tectonic gravity changes with time (gravimetric tides, airpressure). The tide gauge control network allows the gravimetric determination of height changes at the cm-level. The network can serve as a reference for forthcoming precise gravimetric projects, especially for the repeated measurements at intervals of about 20 years. Because of ist absolute reference the network is a sensible and independent supplement to the (relative) geometric spatial methods. High-precision methods of differential global positioning system (DGPS) have been applied to height determination during echo sounding measurements in marine geodesy. Application of DGPS makes a precision in the sub-decimeter region available even at a distance of the reference station of several ten kilometers. Recommendations are compiled for the operational use of DGPS. 'On the way' (OTW) ambiguity algorithms required for operation are integrated in available softwares, e.g. GEONAP and GNRT-K. Application of real-time DGPS is limited by the range and quality of wireless data transmission systems. For improved reliability of OTW algorithms the formation of online networks of permanent reference stations is recommended. Optimierung der hydrographischen Positions- und Lagebestimmung Gemeinsamer Schlussbericht

An increasing number of hydrographic applications requires an accuracy of about less than 10 cm. Realtime capability and the integration of various sensors is necessary under navigation, quality control and data storing aspects. Within this project a modular, receiver independent system with a high reliable Precise Differential GPS (PDGPS) solution has been developed. The optional use of the RTCM 2.1 standard allows the utilization of existing reference station networks. The integration of different hydrographic sensors is possible with a coupled time scale. The concept focuses on some aspects. The first step only uses the PDGPS solution without any additional sensor information to determine the position. The integration of various attitude sensors (e.g. with GPS) allows the reduction of the GPS antenna coordinates to a user sensor e.g. to the echo-sounder. With INS of sufficient performance 10 seconds of data loss or even longer can be bridged. Experiments with a low-cost INS system supported by PDGPS show differences below 10 cm after 5 seconds of GPS data loss. Studies with on-line cross-linked reference stations demonstrate a strong reduction of distance dependent effects. The GPS positioning and attitude determination reaches an accuracy better than 10 cm. The concept fulfills the current requirements for hydrographic positioning and attitude determination.
