Abschlussbericht ueber die Taetigkeit der Geschaeftsstelle des Norddeutschen Forschungsverbundes Public Health. (Verbundkoordination) im Zeitraum 1992-1996

The North German Centre for Public Health Research (HFV) was funded with the goal to develop and establish scientific Public Health knowledge and structures. The first stage (1992-1996) comprised 21 projects funded by BMBF (German Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology) and 26 associated projects. They were carried out in the main NFV research institutions mainly based in Hannover, Bremen and Hamburg but also in Greifswald, Luebeck, Magdeburg and Rostock. The four thematic areas are: A. Public health history and methodological quality assurance; B. Social gerontology and rehabilitation; C. Occupational and environmental epidemiology and women and health; D. Evaluative health system analysis and health services research. Seven working groups served to facilitate the exchange of experiences. Seminars, workshops - with participants from abroad -, the edition of a book series, the journal Public Health Forum and more than 450 scientific and transfer-oriented publications accompanied the development of the NFV. As a result of the first stage of development, new public health structures could be established; these included postgraduate programmes in public health both at Hannover Medical School (permanently since 1994) and Bremen University (1995). In addition, the state Lower-Saxony decided to establish a Centre for Health Economics and Health System Research for the period 1996-2001.
