Planetary companions orbiting M giants HD 208527 and HD 220074
Aims. The purpose of the present study is to research the origin of planetary
companions by using a precise radial velocity (RV) survey.
Methods. The high-resolution spectroscopy of the fiber-fed Bohyunsan
Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy
Observatory (BOAO) is used from September 2008 to June 2012.
Results. We report the detection of two exoplanets in orbit around HD 208527
and HD 220074 exhibiting periodic variations in RV of 875.5 +/- 5.8 and 672.1
+/- 3.7 days. The RV variations are not apparently related to the surface
inhomogeneities and a Keplerian motion of the planetary companion is the most
likely explanation. Assuming possible stellar masses of 1.6 +/- 0.4 and 1.2 +/-
0.3 M_Sun, we obtain the minimum masses for the exoplanets of 9.9 +/- 1.7 and
11.1 +/- 1.8 M_Jup around HD 208527 and HD 220074 with an orbital semi-major
axis of 2.1 +/- 0.2 and 1.6 +/- 0.1 AU and an eccentricity of 0.08 and 0.14,
respectively. We also find that the previously known spectral classification of
HD 208527 and HD 220074 was in error: Our new estimation of stellar parameters
suggest that both HD 208527 and HD 220074 are M giants. Therefore, HD 208527
and HD 220074 are so far the first candidate M giants to harbor a planetary
companion.Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures, 4 tables, accepted for publisation in Astronomy &

Phonon spectral function for an interacting electron-phonon system
Using exact diagonalzation techniques, we study a model of interacting
electrons and phonons. The spectral width of the phonons is found to be reduced
as the Coulomb interaction U is increased. For a system with two modes per
site, we find a transfer of coupling strength from the upper to the lower mode.
This transfer is reduced as U is increased. These results give a qualitative
explanation of differences between Raman and photoemission estimates of the
electron-phonon coupling constants for A3C60 (A= K, Rb).Comment: 4 pages, RevTeX, 2 eps figur
Entropy rate of continuous-state hidden Markov chains
We prove that under mild positivity assumptions, the entropy rate of a continuous-state hidden Markov chain, observed when passing a finite-state Markov chain through a discrete-time continuous-output channel, is analytic as a function of the transition probabilities of the underlying Markov chain. We further prove that the entropy rate of a continuous-state hidden Markov chain, observed when passing a mixing finite-type constrained Markov chain through a discrete-time Gaussian channel, is smooth as a function of the transition probabilities of the underlying Markov chain. © 2010 IEEE.published_or_final_versionThe IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT 2010), Austin, TX., 13-18 June 2010. Asymptotics of entropy rate of hidden Markov chains at weak Black Holes
We generalize a result in [8] and derive an asymptotic formula for entropy rate of a hidden Markov chain around a "weak Black Hole". We also discuss applications of the asymptotic formula to certain channels. © 2008 IEEE.published_or_final_versio
Analyticity of Entropy Rate of Hidden Markov Chains With Continuous Alphabet
We first prove that under certain mild assumptions, the entropy rate of a hidden Markov chain, observed when passing a finite-state stationary Markov chain through a discrete-time continuous-output channel, is analytic with respect to the input Markov chain parameters. We then further prove, under strengthened assumptions on the chan- nel, that the entropy rate is jointly analytic as a function of both the input Markov chain parameters and the channel parameters. In particular, the main theorems estab- lish the analyticity of the entropy rate for two representative channels: Cauchy and Gaussian.published_or_final_versio
Birthrates and delay times of Type Ia supernovae
Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) play an important role in diverse areas of
astrophysics, from the chemical evolution of galaxies to observational
cosmology. However, the nature of the progenitors of SNe Ia is still unclear.
In this paper, according to a detailed binary population synthesis study, we
obtained SN Ia birthrates and delay times from different progenitor models, and
compared them with observations. We find that the Galactic SN Ia birthrate from
the double-degenerate (DD) model is close to those inferred from observations,
while the birthrate from the single-degenerate (SD) model accounts for only
about 1/2-2/3 of the observations. If a single starburst is assumed, the
distribution of the delay times of SNe Ia from the SD model is a weak
bimodality, where the WD + He channel contributes to the SNe Ia with delay
times shorter than 100Myr, and the WD + MS and WD + RG channels to those with
age longer than 1Gyr.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures, accepted by Science in China Series G (Dec.30,

Supersymmetric QCD flavor changing top quark decay
We present a detailed and complete calculation of the gluino and scalar
quarks contribution to the flavour-changing top quark decay into a charm quark
and a photon, gluon, or a Z boson within the minimal supersymmetric standard
model including flavour changing gluino-quarks-scalar quarks couplings in the
right-handed sector. We compare the results with the ones presented in an
earlier paper where we considered flavour changing couplings only in the
left-handed sector. We show that these new couplings have important
consequences leading to a large enhancement when the mixing of the scalar
partners of the left- and right-handed top quark is included. Furthermore CP
violation in the flavour changing top quark decay will occur when a SUSY phase
is taken into account.Comment: 14 pages, latex, 3 figure
