How and When Review Length and Emotional Intensity Influence Review Helpfulness: Empirical Evidence from Epinions.com

    Get PDF
Although longer reviews are generally considered more helpful, no research has investigated whether “the more the better” also applies to the expression of emotions. This paper explores the distinct effects of review length and emotional intensity. We propose that, in contrast to review length, the intensity of emotions has a negative effect on review helpfulness, and that this effect only applies to positive emotions. Additionally, drawing on elaboration likelihood model and the literature on the social functions of emotions, we predict that the respective effects of review length and emotional intensity are moderated by reviewer trustworthiness and the difficulty of reading review content. To test these hypotheses, we collected a rich data set from Epinions.com - a leading provider of consumer reviews. Our findings reveal the importance of taking the intensity of emotions into consideration when evaluating review helpfulness, and the results carry important practical implications

The Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS), sponsored by the Association for Information Systems (AIS), is the premier annual information systems conference in the region. It aims to provide a high quality forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange research findings and practices on key issues in information systems and management. PACIS 2010 was held in Taipei, Taiwan in July 2010 and its theme is “Service Science in Information Systems Research.” In response to the transition of the global economy from the manufacturing to service-dominated economy, service science is emerging as a new and exciting paradigm. It represents a melding of information technology with an understanding of business processes and human behaviors for improving service operations, delivery, innovation, and ultimate values to customers. At the emerging stage of service science, it is essential for information systems (IS) researchers and practitioners to help shape what service science is by fusing IS research into inquiries of service science. Meanwhile, the service-centric view of servicescience may open up exciting opportunities and unique challenges to IS research. Hence, PACIS 2010 aims to facilitate the dialogues among IS professionals in academic and industries to exchange insights on issues related to service science in IS research as well as IS research to service science

Decay Constants of Pseudoscalar DD-mesons in Lattice QCD with Domain-Wall Fermion

    Get PDF
We present the first study of the masses and decay constants of the pseudoscalar D D mesons in two flavors lattice QCD with domain-wall fermion. The gauge ensembles are generated on the 243×4824^3 \times 48 lattice with the extent Ns=16 N_s = 16 in the fifth dimension, and the plaquette gauge action at β=6.10 \beta = 6.10 , for three sea-quark masses with corresponding pion masses in the range 260475260-475 MeV. We compute the point-to-point quark propagators, and measure the time-correlation functions of the pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The inverse lattice spacing is determined by the Wilson flow, while the strange and the charm quark masses by the masses of the vector mesons ϕ(1020) \phi(1020) and J/ψ(3097) J/\psi(3097) respectively. Using heavy meson chiral perturbation theory (HMChPT) to extrapolate to the physical pion mass, we obtain fD=202.3(2.2)(2.6) f_D = 202.3(2.2)(2.6) MeV and fDs=258.7(1.1)(2.9) f_{D_s} = 258.7(1.1)(2.9) MeV.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures. v2: the statistics of ensemble (A) with m_sea = 0.005 has been increased, more details on the systematic error, to appear in Phys. Lett.

Predicting The Helpfulness Of Online Product Reviewers: A Data Mining Approach

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to propose a data mining approach to predict the helpfulness scores of online product reviewers. Such prediction can facilitate consumers to judge whether to believe or disbelieve reviews written by different reviewers and can help e-stores or third-party product review websites to target and retain quality reviewers. In this study, we identify eight independent variables from the perspectives of reviewers’ review behavior and trust network to predict the helpfulness scores for these reviewers. We adopt M5 and SVM Regression as our underlying learning algorithms. Our empirical evaluation results on the basis of two product categories (i.e., Car and Computer) suggest that our proposed helpfulness prediction technique can predict the helpfulness scores of online product reviewers

Evaluating the development and investment direction of complex transportation system for Kaohsiung international logistics is very important to Taiwan. According to the effect of internal and external variables factors, it is necessary to inspect the Kaohsiung metropolitan area epistemic development plan and trend of domestic industry develop international logistics. In order to achieve the benefits of developing logistics integration; we set the Kaohsiung harbour and airport as the core of this study. Exploring that how to strengthen the international logistics function and develop the strategy to improve the economic environment of Kaohsiung area. Consequently, this study is to extract critical expert knowledge and to build strategic decision to improve the economic environment of Kaohsiung area and international logistics

Noncovalent functionalization of carbon nanotubes by aromatic organic molecules

    Get PDF
The interaction between carbon nanotubes and organic molecules including benzene ( C 6 H 6 ), cyclohexane ( C 6 H 12 ), and 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone ( DDQ: C 8 N 2 O 2 Cl 2 ) have been studied using first principles calculations. The equilibrium tube-molecule distance, adsorptionenergy, and charge transfer are obtained. The hybridization between the DDQ molecular level and nanotubevalence bands transforms the semiconducting tube into a metallic one. Coupling of π electrons between tubes and aromatic molecules are observed. Our results show that noncovalent functionalization of carbon nanotubes by aromatic molecules is an efficient way to control the electronic properties of carbon nanotubes

Effect of Danshen for improving clinical outcomes in patients with bladder cancer: a retrospective, population-based study

    Get PDF
Introduction: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a broad application in healthcare, with Danshen being a notable herb used in Eastern medicine for cancer treatment. This study aims to explore the relationship between Danshen use and cardiovascular risks among bladder cancer patients. Methods: Patients were selected based on a confirmed diagnosis of bladder cancer with specific inclusion and exclusion criteria to control for certain comorbidities and treatments. Utilizing Taiwan’s National Health Insurance data from 2003 to 2013, this retrospective, population-based study identified three groups: 525 patients treated with Danshen, 6,419 patients not treated with TCM, and 4,356 patients treated with TCM but not with Danshen. The Cox proportional hazard model was employed to estimate the risks of Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) and mortality while accounting for various confounders. Results: The overall incidence of MACEs was significantly lower in the Danshen group (5%) compared to the TCM (8.1%) and non-TCM (9.9%) groups (p < 0.001). The Cox model revealed that bladder cancer patients treated with Danshen had the lowest risk of MACE (adjusted hazard ratio, 0.56; 95% confidence interval, 0.38–0.84) and all-cause mortality (adjusted hazard ratio, 0.60; 95% confidence interval, 0.44–0.82).Discussion: The findings suggest that Danshen reduces the risk of MACE and all-cause mortality in bladder cancer patients, highlighting its potential benefits. This underpins the necessity for further research to substantiate the cardiovascular benefits of Danshen in bladder cancer patients and potentially broaden its application in oncology healthcare
