    Synthesis And Characterization Of PVP Based Catalysts For Selected Application In Catalysis

    This research aims to study the catalyst activity in specific reactions and the characteristics of the catalyst in order to optimize its performance. This research investigates PVP based catalysts and their properties and applications. PVP was prepared in combination with different metal oxides in order to be tested for different catalytic applications including dye removal. Methyl orange was used as a dye and different concentrations were tested against different metallic ions in order to optimize the catalyst for being used in dye removal applications. Spectrophotometer was used to calculate the concentration of the dye before and after catalyst exposure and investigate the relation between contact time and concentrations. Applying different contact time to the same weight percent of PVP based catalyst with metallic ions revealed that increasing the contact time with a good shaking lead to decrease in the concentration of the dye mixed with the sample. The tests showed that the mixture between PVP and Nickel has the best dye removal within the other metal ions (copper and ferric) as well it showed that ferric has the least effect on dye removal.     Knowledge and attitude of basic life support (BLS) among school teachers in Hebron, Palestine

    Background: Patients in all settings fully expect that they will be resuscitated if they have a cardiac arrest. It is therefore necessary to increase the number of qualified people, including school teachers and students who can play a vital role in performing basic and advanced cardiac life support at the scene of a medical emergency. Since life threatening events, such as cardiac arrest, must be responded to within six minutes, the retention of skills becomes a key concern in all urgent cases. The purpose of this study was to assess the existing knowledge of BLS among primary and secondary school teachers in Hebron, Palestine.Methods: After approval from Institute Ethical Committee and informed consent from the participant, the present study was conducted among primary and secondary school teachers. A self-administered questionnaire based on knowledge and attitude of BLS was used to collect data.Results: In general, only 42.5%of school teachers knew about CPR, but 57.5% had no previous information about CPR. Sources of information about CPR included television (26.5%), nurses and Drs (25.8), and the Internet (18.7%). Approximately 53% agreed that CPR training courses should be mandatory. Only 18.1% of teachers didn’t know the contact numbers for emergency services.Conclusions: This study has highlighted a critical issue that a majority of school teachers have limited knowledge about CPR. We recommend the mandatory implementation of CPR and basic life-support training for all school teachers across Palestine, and the need for incorporation of the BLS teaching into the Palestinian schools’ curricula without delay

    Association between age at disease onset of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis and clinical presentation and short-term outcomes

    Objectives: ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) can affect all age groups. We aimed to show that differences in disease presentation and 6 month outcome between younger- A nd older-onset patients are still incompletely understood. Methods: We included patients enrolled in the Diagnostic and Classification Criteria for Primary Systemic Vasculitis (DCVAS) study between October 2010 and January 2017 with a diagnosis of AAV. We divided the population according to age at diagnosis: <65 years or ≄65 years. We adjusted associations for the type of AAV and the type of ANCA (anti-MPO, anti-PR3 or negative). Results: A total of 1338 patients with AAV were included: 66% had disease onset at <65 years of age [female 50%; mean age 48.4 years (s.d. 12.6)] and 34% had disease onset at ≄65 years [female 54%; mean age 73.6 years (s.d. 6)]. ANCA (MPO) positivity was more frequent in the older group (48% vs 27%; P = 0.001). Younger patients had higher rates of musculoskeletal, cutaneous and ENT manifestations compared with older patients. Systemic, neurologic,cardiovascular involvement and worsening renal function were more frequent in the older-onset group. Damage accrual, measured with the Vasculitis Damage Index (VDI), was significantly higher in older patients, 12% of whom had a 6 month VDI ≄5, compared with 7% of younger patients (P = 0.01). Older age was an independent risk factor for early death within 6 months from diagnosis [hazard ratio 2.06 (95% CI 1.07, 3.97); P = 0.03]. Conclusion: Within 6 months of diagnosis of AAV, patients >65 years of age display a different pattern of organ involvement and an increased risk of significant damage and mortality compared with younger patients

    Monocyte Differentiation into Destructive Macrophages on In Vitro Administration of Gingival Crevicular Fluid from Periodontitis Patients

    Background: Periodontitis is an inflammatory condition of the tooth-supporting structures initiated and perpetuated by pathogenic bacteria present in the dental plaque biofilm. In periodontitis, immune cells infiltrate the periodontium to prevent bacterial insult. Macrophages derived from monocytes play an important role in antigen presentation to lymphocytes. However, they are also implicated in causing periodontal destruction and bystander damage to the host tissues. Objectives: The objective of the present study was to quantify the cytokine profile of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples obtained from patients with periodontitis. The study further aimed to assess if GCF of periodontitis patients could convert CD14+ monocytes into macrophages of destructive phenotype in an in vitro setting. The secondary objectives of the study were to assess if macrophages that resulted from GCF treatment of monocytes could affect the synthetic properties, stemness, expression of extracellular matrix proteins, adhesion molecules expressed by gingival stem cells, gingival mesenchymal stromal cells, and osteoblasts. Methods: GCF, blood, and gingival tissue samples were obtained from periodontitis subjects and healthy individuals based on specific protocols. Cytokine profiles of the GCF samples were analyzed. CD14+ monocytes were isolated from whole blood, cultured, and treated with the GCF of periodontitis patients to observe if they differentiated into macrophages. Further, the macrophages were assessed for a phenotype by surface marker analysis and cytokine assays. These macrophages were co-cultured with gingival stem cells, epithelial, stromal cells, and osteoblasts to assess the effects of the macrophages on the synthetic activity of the cells. Results: The GCF samples of periodontitis patients had significantly higher levels of IFN gamma, M-CSF, and GM-CSF. Administration of the GCF samples to CD14+ monocytes resulted in their conversion to macrophages that tested positive for CD80, CD86, and CD206. These macrophages produced increased levels of IL-1ÎČ, TNF-α, and IL-6. Co-culture of the macrophages with gingival stem cells, epithelial cells, and stromal cells resulted in increased cytotoxicity and apoptotic rates to the gingival cells. A reduced expression of markers related to stemness, extracellular matrix, and adhesion namely OCT4, NANOG, KRT5, POSTN, COL3A1, CDH1, and CDH3 were seen. The macrophages profoundly affected the production of mineralized nodules by osteoblasts and significantly reduced the expression of COL1A1, OSX, and OCN genes. Conclusion: In periodontitis patients, blood-derived monocytes transform into macrophages of a destructive phenotype due to the characteristic cytokine environment of their GCF. Further, the macrophages affect the genotype and phenotype of the resident cells of the periodontium, aggravate periodontal destruction, as well as jeopardize periodontal healing and resolution of inflammation

    Improve the automatic classification accuracy for Arabic tweets using ensemble methods

    Tweets classification became interest topics in recent years, especially for the Arabic language. In this paper, the Arabic tweets are classified automatically into one of some predetermined categories mainly: sport, culture, politics, technology and general, based on their linguistic characteristics and their contents, also the classification accuracy is improved for Arabic tweets, by using ensemble methods mainly: bagging, boosting and stacking on the same dataset that we used it before in the classification, to verify of the results, and identify the best classifier gives high accuracy. The experimental results showed that using ensemble methods are better than using individual classifier, to improve the accuracy of classification. Increased accuracy of classifier NaĂŻve Bayes (NB) to 1.6%, classifier Sequential Minimal Optimization (SMO) to 2.2% and finally Decision Tree (J48) classifier reached up to 3.2%, comparing to using the J48, NB, or SMO as a single classifier.
