An asynchronous spike event coding scheme for programmable analog arrays
This paper presents a spike event coding scheme for the communication of analog signals in programmable analog arrays. In the scheme presented here no events are transmitted when the signals are constant leading to low power dissipation and traffic reduction in analog arrays. The design process and the implementation of the scheme in a programmable array context are explained. The validation of the presented scheme is performed using a speech signal. Finally, we demonstrate how the event coded scheme can perform summation of analog signals without additional hardware

Coupled Pulsation And Translation Of A Gas Bubble And Rigid Particle
A nonlinear analytic model describing the interaction of a spherical gas bubble and spherical rigid particle is presented. Both the bubble and particle are free to translate. The model is accurate to fifth order in terms of a nondimensional expansion parameter R/d, where R is a characteristic radius and d is the distance separating the bubble and particle. Numerical simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effects of key particle parameters and an external acoustic source.Applied Research Laboratorie
Model For The Dynamics Of A Bubble Undergoing Small Shape Oscillations Between Elastic Layers
A model is presented for a pulsating and translating gas bubble in a channel formed by two soft elastic parallel layers. The bubble is free to undergo small shape deformations. Coupled nonlinear second-order differential equations are obtained for the shape and position of the bubble, and numerical integration of an expression for the liquid velocity at the layer interfaces yields an estimate of their displacement. Simulations reveal behavior consistent with laboratory observations.Applied Research Laboratorie
Local light-ray rotation
We present a sheet structure that rotates the local ray direction through an
arbitrary angle around the sheet normal. The sheet structure consists of two
parallel Dove-prism sheets, each of which flips one component of the local
direction of transmitted light rays. Together, the two sheets rotate
transmitted light rays around the sheet normal. We show that the direction
under which a point light source is seen is given by a Mobius transform. We
illustrate some of the properties with movies calculated by ray-tracing

Piezoelectric rotator for studying quantum effects in semiconductor nanostructures at high magnetic fields and low temperatures
We report the design and development of a piezoelectric sample rotation
system, and its integration into an Oxford Instruments Kelvinox 100 dilution
refrigerator, for orientation-dependent studies of quantum transport in
semiconductor nanodevices at millikelvin temperatures in magnetic fields up to
10T. Our apparatus allows for continuous in situ rotation of a device through
>100deg in two possible configurations. The first enables rotation of the field
within the plane of the device, and the second allows the field to be rotated
from in-plane to perpendicular to the device plane. An integrated angle sensor
coupled with a closed-loop feedback system allows the device orientation to be
known to within +/-0.03deg whilst maintaining the sample temperature below

Enhanced Zeeman splitting in Ga0.25In0.75As quantum point contacts
The strength of the Zeeman splitting induced by an applied magnetic field is
an important factor for the realization of spin-resolved transport in
mesoscopic devices. We measure the Zeeman splitting for a quantum point contact
etched into a Ga0.25In0.75As quantum well, with the field oriented parallel to
the transport direction. We observe an enhancement of the Lande g-factor from
|g*|=3.8 +/- 0.2 for the third subband to |g*|=5.8 +/- 0.6 for the first
subband, six times larger than in GaAs. We report subband spacings in excess of
10 meV, which facilitates quantum transport at higher temperatures.Comment: [Version 2] Revtex4, 11 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in
