The Impact of Unionization on University Performance
This study examines faculty unions’ impact on the organizational efficiency and effectiveness of public four-year institutions of higher learning. The article theorizes the causal connections between faculty unions to higher education performance. The study also presents results of a cross-sectional time series analysis and a cross-sectional analysis of higher education performance using data from the Department of Education’s Integrated Post Secondary Data System (IPEDS) spanning more than two decades and over 430 public universities and colleges. We find support for the view that unionization improves organizational efficiency and effectiveness. At the same time the research raises important methodological and substantive questions about how faculty unions influence the behavior of such complex public organizations as a university or college

ChatGPT’s Role in Improving Education Among Patients Seeking Emergency Medical Treatment
Providing appropriate patient education during a medical encounter remains an important area for improvement across healthcare settings. Personalized resources can offer an impactful way to improve patient understanding and satisfaction during or after a healthcare visit. ChatGPT is a novel chatbot—computer program designed to simulate conversation with humans— that has the potential to assist with care-related questions, clarify discharge instructions, help triage medical problem urgency, and could potentially be used to improve patient-clinician communication. However, due to its training methodology, ChatGPT has inherent limitations, including technical restrictions, risk of misinformation, lack of input standardization, and privacy concerns. Medicolegal liability also remains an open question for physicians interacting with this technology. Nonetheless, careful utilization of ChatGPT in clinical medicine has the potential to supplement patient education in important ways
Equal Sharing of Domestic Responsibilities as A Mean of Enhancing Woman’s Economic Participation in Jordan
This paper explores how equal sharing of domestic and family responsibilities can have positive impact of women’s economic participation in Jordan. Jordanian women’s capabilities and potential were manifested during the past three decades in the areas of education and health where women achieved advanced positions and often surpassed men. Nevertheless, this excellence did not reflect on women’s engagement in the labour market. Recent statistics indicate that the economic participation of Jordanian women in the labour market lies in its lowest level and this is why national polices and legislation need to be revisited to make the concept of sharing of family and domestic responsibilities between spouses a realistic and viable matter Keywords: Jordan, Women Economic Participation, equal sharing of domestic responsibilities, CEDAW. The Role of Transformational Leadership - Between Challenges and Opportunities - in Applying the Comprehensive Quality at Al-Istiqlal University in Palestine as a Case Study
The study aimed to identify the Role of Transformational Leadership – between Challenges and Opportunities – in Applying the Comprehensive Quality at Al-Istiqlal University in Palestine as a case study. To conduct the study the researcher used the descriptive method and relied on the sources of his data on the previous references and studies in addition to the information available at Al-Istiqlal University. The study examined the extent of applying the comprehensive quality through the academic, administrative and infrastructure fields. The study reached several results; some of them are listed below: 1-Al-Istiqlal University is applying the quality in the field of planning since its inception. It is strategic and operational plans are constantly being updated. The University has evaluated itself (according to the standards and weights guide for quantitative and qualitative indicators of quality assurance and accreditation according to the guide of Arab universities that are members in the union issued in Amman, 2010). It works to evaluate deviations. 2- The University administration holds periodic meetings with the staff to discuss and evaluate the conditions of the University, exchange viewpoints, and suggestions for continuous improvement and development. 3- The University does not have most of its curriculum. The number of faculty members who hold the rank of professor and associate professor is limited compared to the number of teaching staff. The participation of students in the evaluation of curricula, teachers and study plans is not active. 4- The University does not benefit from clean (solar) energy enough. It also does not benefit from fertile agriculture land it owns, and it does not treat sewage water. 5- The number of research papers by teaching staff and students published in refereed international journals is not at the required level. Based on the results of the study, the researcher made the following recommendations: 1-Providing special curricula for the University, giving scientific research more attention, opening promotions for scientific ranks, and the need to focus on the participation of students in evaluating curricula, teachers and study plans. 2- The University must take advantage of clean (solar) energy in the generation of electricity for self-use. as well as the exploitation of fertile agricultural land to grow vegetables and fruits to meet the University needs, and sewage treatment for irrigation. Strategy for DNA extraction and detection frominsect pests in stored home grain samples
Stored grains are subjected to infestations with more than 60 species of insects, that responsible for millions of dollars loss and cause several health problems including allergies and gastrointestinal disorders. Traditional detection techniques are laborious, expensive and not sensitive to detect insect contamination at the egg and larvae stages. Therefore, alternative methods are needed for rapid and sensitive detection. One obvious approach is to develop a molecular approach utilizing genetic information of the potential insect species that infest grains for amplification of specific target gene fragment utilizing polymerase chain reaction [PCR]. In the present study, a number of known infested grain samples were used in standardizing a method to isolate larvae and adult insects that were based on centrifugation washing method and a filtration washing method. The isolated insects were subjected to DNA extraction and PCR amplification of defined regions of cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene followed by sequencing to identify the different pest species. For PCR amplification new primers were designed and for this purpose the obtained COI sequences from different insects were aligned to design two sets of primers (named: COI-PCR4 and COI-PCR5) specific for the indicated insect mitochondrial COI gene. The designed primers were tested for their specificity and sensitivity. The suitability of PCR primers and DNA extraction methods were evaluated on eleven samples of commercial grains utilizing each primer set with the two extraction methods
