Hall effect and magnetoresistance in single crystals of NdFeAsOF
Hall effect and magnetoresistance have been measured on single crystals of
with x = 0 ( = 0 K) and x = 0.18 ( = 50 K). For the undoped samples, strong Hall effect and magnetoresistance with
strong temperature dependence were found below about 150 K. The
magnetoresistance was found to be as large as 30% at 15 K at a magnetic field
of 9 T. From the transport data we found that the transition near 155 K was
accomplished in two steps: first one occurs at 155 K which may be associated
with the structural transition, the second one takes place at about 140 K which
may correspond to the spin-density wave like transition. In the superconducting
sample with = 50 K, it is found that the Hall coefficient also reveals
a strong temperature dependence with a negative sign. But the magnetoresistance
becomes very weak and does not satisfy the Kohler's scaling law. These
dilemmatic results (strong Hall effect and very weak magnetoresistance) prevent
to understand the normal state electric conduction by a simple multi-band model
by taking account the electron and hole pockets. Detailed analysis further
indicates that the strong temperature dependence of cannot be easily
understood with the simple multi-band model either. A picture concerning a
suppression to the density of states at the Fermi energy in lowering
temperature is more reasonable. A comparison between the Hall coefficient of
the undoped sample and the superconducting sample suggests that the doping may
remove the nesting condition for the formation of the SDW order, since both
samples have very similar temperature dependence above 175 K.Comment: 8 pages, 9 figure
Suppression of the critical temperature of superconducting NdFeAs(OF) single crystals by Kondo-like defect sites induced by alpha-particle irradiation
We report a comprehensive investigation of the suppression of the critical
temperature Tc of NdFeAs(OF) single crystal by alpha-particle irradiation. Our
data indicate that irradiation defects produce both nonmagnetic and magnetic
scattering, resulting in the Kondo-like excess resistance over 2 decades in temperatures above . Despite high densities of
irradiation defects, the dose at which is suppressed to zero is
comparable to that for MgB2 but is well above the corresponding values for

Angular dependence of resistivity in the superconducting state of NdFeAsOF single crystals
We report the results of angle dependent resistivity of
NdFeAsOF single crystals in the superconducting state. By
doing the scaling of resistivity within the frame of the anisotropic
Ginzburg-Landau theory, it is found that the angle dependent resistivity
measured under different magnetic fields at a certain temperature can be
collapsed onto one curve. As a scaling parameter, the anisotropy can
be determined for different temperatures. It is found that
increases slowly with decreasing temperature, varying from 5.48
at T=50 K to 6.24 at T=44 K. This temperature dependence can be
understood within the picture of multi-band superconductivity.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure
Pairing symmetry and properties of iron-based high temperature superconductors
Pairing symmetry is important to indentify the pairing mechanism. The
analysis becomes particularly timely and important for the newly discovered
iron-based multi-orbital superconductors. From group theory point of view we
classified all pairing matrices (in the orbital space) that carry irreducible
representations of the system. The quasiparticle gap falls into three
categories: full, nodal and gapless. The nodal-gap states show conventional
Volovik effect even for on-site pairing. The gapless states are odd in orbital
space, have a negative superfluid density and are therefore unstable. In
connection to experiments we proposed possible pairing states and implications

Growth and characterization of A_{1-x}K_xFe_2As_2 (A = Ba, Sr) single crystals with x=0 - 0.4
Single crystals of AKFeAs (A=Ba, Sr) with high quality
have been grown successfully by FeAs self-flux method. The samples have sizes
up to 4 mm with flat and shiny surfaces. The X-ray diffraction patterns suggest
that they have high crystalline quality and c-axis orientation. The
non-superconducting crystals show a spin-density-wave (SDW) instability at
about 173 K and 135 K for Sr-based and Ba-based compound, respectively. After
doping K as the hole dopant into the BaFeAs system, the SDW transition
is smeared, and superconducting samples with the compound of
BaKFeAs (0 0.4) are obtained. The
superconductors characterized by AC susceptibility and resistivity measurements
exhibit very sharp superconducting transition at about 36 K, 32 K, 27 K and 23

A simulation study on the measurement of D0-D0bar mixing parameter y at BES-III
We established a method on measuring the \dzdzb mixing parameter for
BESIII experiment at the BEPCII collider. In this method, the doubly
tagged events, with one decays to
CP-eigenstates and the other decays semileptonically, are used to
reconstruct the signals. Since this analysis requires good separation,
a likelihood approach, which combines the , time of flight and the
electromagnetic shower detectors information, is used for particle
identification. We estimate the sensitivity of the measurement of to be

Genetic Variants in MARCO Are Associated with the Susceptibility to Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Chinese Han Population
BACKGROUND: Susceptibility to tuberculosis is not only determined by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, but also by the genetic component of the host. Macrophage receptor with a collagenous structure (MARCO) is essential components required for toll like receptor-signaling in macrophage response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which may contribute to tuberculosis risk. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: To specifically investigated whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in MARCO gene are associated with pulmonary tuberculosis in Chinese Han population. By selecting tagging SNPs in MARCO gene, 17 tag SNPs were identified and genotyped in 923 pulmonary tuberculosis patients and 1033 healthy control subjects using a hospital based case-control association study. Single-point and haplotype analysis revealed an association in intron and exon region of MARCO gene. One SNP (rs17009726) was associated with susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis, where the carriers of the G allele had a 1.65 fold (95% CIβ=β1.32-2.05, p(corrected)β=β9.27E-5) increased risk of pulmonary tuberculosis. Haplotype analysis revealed that haplotype GC containing G allele of 17009726 and haplotype TGCC (rs17795618T/A, rs1371562G/T, rs6761637T/C, rs2011839C/T) were also associated with susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis (p(corrected)β=β0.0001 and 0.029, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested that genetic variants in MARCO gene were associated with pulmonary tuberculosis susceptibility in Chinese Han population, and the findings emphasize the importance of MARCO mediated immune responses in the pathogenesis of tuberculosis
Evaluation of Genetic Susceptibility Loci for Chronic Hepatitis B in Chinese: Two Independent Case-Control Studies
BACKGROUND: A recent genome-wide scan has identified two genetic variants in the HLA-DP region strongly associated with hepatitis B infection in Japanese. This study evaluates the effects of these risk variants in Chinese, where the HBV infection is the most popular in the world. METHODS AND FINDINGS: We have assessed the relationship between these two single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs3077 and rs9277535) and chronic hepatitis B infection in two independent case-control studies. The first population in Chinese Han included 736 patients and 782 spontaneously recovered controls. The second set was established in Chinese Zhuang minority of 177 patients and 208 controls. Both A alleles of rs3077 and rs9277535 significantly deceased the risk to CHB in Chinese Han (ORβ=β0.540, 95%CI: 0.464-0.628, Pβ=β4.068Γ10(-16) and ORβ=β0.696, 95%CI: 0.601-0.806, Pβ=β1.062Γ10(-6), respectively). Conceivably, rs9277535 was found to be associated with decreased risk of the disease in Chinese Zhuang, with an OR of 0.606 (95%CI, 0.441-0.833, Pβ=β0.002). CONCLUSION: Chronic hepatitis B susceptibility loci in HLA-DP region (rs3077 and rs9277535) identified by genome-wide scan in Japanese population were validated in Chinese population. These findings might provide clues to develop screening and surveillance strategies
Inhibitory effect of ginsenoside Rg3 combined with gemcitabine on angiogenesis and growth of lung cancer in mice
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Ginsenoside Rg3, a saponin extracted from ginseng, inhibits angiogenesis. The combination of low-dose chemotherapy and anti-angiogenic inhibitors suppresses growth of experimental tumors more effectively than conventional therapy or anti-angiogenic agent alone. The present study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of low-dose gemcitabine combined with ginsenoside Rg3 on angiogenesis and growth of established Lewis lung carcinoma in mice.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>C57L/6 mice implanted with Lewis lung carcinoma were randomized into the control, ginsenoside Rg3, gemcitabine and combination group. The quality of life and survival of mice were recorded. Tumor volume, inhibitive rate and necrosis rate were estimated. Necrosis of tumor and signals of blood flow as well as dynamic parameters of arterial blood flow in tumors such as peak systolic velocity (PSV) and resistive index (RI) were detected by color Doppler ultrasound. In addition, expression of vascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF) and CD31 were observed by immunohistochemstry, and microvessel density (MVD) of the tumor tissues was assessed by CD31 immunohistochemical analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Quality of life of mice in the ginsenoside Rg3 and combination group were better than in the control and gemcitabine group. Combined therapy with ginsenoside Rg3 and gemcitabine not only enhanced efficacy on suppression of tumor growth and prolongation of the survival, but also increased necrosis rate of tumor significantly. In addition, the combination treatment could obviously decrease VEGF expression and MVD as well as signals of blood flow and PSV in tumors.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Ginsenoside Rg3 combined with gemcitabine may significantly inhibit angiogenesis and growth of lung cancer and improve survival and quality of life of tumor-bearing mice. The combination of chemotherapy and anti-angiogenic drugs may be an innovative and promising therapeutic strategy in the experimental treatment of human lung cancer.</p
