On q-Gaussians and Exchangeability
The q-Gaussians are discussed from the point of view of variance mixtures of
normals and exchangeability. For each q< 3, there is a q-Gaussian distribution
that maximizes the Tsallis entropy under suitable constraints. This paper shows
that q-Gaussian random variables can be represented as variance mixtures of
normals. These variance mixtures of normals are the attractors in central limit
theorems for sequences of exchangeable random variables; thereby, providing a
possible model that has been extensively studied in probability theory. The
formulation provided has the additional advantage of yielding process versions
which are naturally q-Brownian motions. Explicit mixing distributions for
q-Gaussians should facilitate applications to areas such as option pricing. The
model might provide insight into the study of superstatistics.Comment: 14 page
A q-analogue of gl_3 hierarchy and q-Painleve VI
A q-analogue of the gl_3 Drinfel'd-Sokolov hierarchy is proposed as a
reduction of the q-KP hierarchy. Applying a similarity reduction and a
q-Laplace transformation to the hierarchy, one can obtain the q-Painleve VI
equation proposed by Jimbo and Sakai.Comment: 14 pages, IOP style, to appear in J. Phys. A Special issue "One

Role of Oxygen Electrons in the Metal-Insulator Transition in the Magnetoresistive Oxide LaSrMnO Probed by Compton Scattering
We have studied the [100]-[110] anisotropy of the Compton profile in the
bilayer manganite. Quantitative agreement is found between theory and
experiment with respect to the anisotropy in the two metallic phases (i.e. the
low temperature ferromagnetic and the colossal magnetoresistant phase under a
magnetic field of 7 T). Robust signatures of the metal-insulator transition are
identified in the momentum density for the paramagnetic phase above the Curie
temperature. We interpret our results as providing direct evidence for the
transition from the metallic-like to the admixed ionic-covalent bonding
accompanying the magnetic transition. The number of electrons involved in this
phase transition is estimated from the area enclosed by the Compton profile
anisotropy differences. Our study demonstrates the sensitivity of the Compton
scattering technique for identifying the number and type of electrons involved
in the metal-insulator transition.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Physical Review

Two-loop SUSY QCD corrections to the chargino masses in the MSSM
We have calculated the two-loop strong interaction corrections to the
chargino pole masses in the DRbar'-scheme in the Minimal Supersymmetric
Standard Model (MSSM) with complex parameters. We have performed a detailed
numerical analysis for a particular point in the parameter space and found
corrections of a few tenths of a percent. We provide a computer program which
calculates chargino and neutralino masses with complex parameters including the
one-loop corrections and all two-loop SQCD effects.Comment: 12 pages, 11 figures, references modified, clarifications adde
Dynamical Polarizabilities of SU(3) Octet of Baryons
We present calculations and an analysis of the spin-independent dipole
electric and magnetic dynamical polarizabilities for the lowest in mass SU(3)
octet of baryons. These extensive calculations are made possible by the recent
implementation of semi-automatized calculations in Chiral Perturbation Theory
which allows evaluating dynamical spin-independent electromagnetic
polarizabilities from Compton scattering up to next-to-the-leading order. Our
results are in good agreement with calculations performed for nucleons found in
the literature. The dependencies for the range of photon energies up to 1 GeV,
covering the majority of the meson photo production channels, are analyzed. The
separate contributions into polarizabilities from the various baryon meson
clouds are studied.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, extended analysis of hyperon polarizabilitie
Application of Minimal Subtraction Renormalization to Crossover Behavior near the He Liquid-Vapor Critical Point
Parametric expressions are used to calculate the isothermal susceptibility,
specific heat, order parameter, and correlation length along the critical
isochore and coexistence curve from the asymptotic region to crossover region.
These expressions are based on the minimal-subtraction renormalization scheme
within the model. Using two adjustable parameters in these
expressions, we fit the theory globally to recently obtained experimental
measurements of isothermal susceptibility and specific heat along the critical
isochore and coexistence curve, and early measurements of coexistence curve and
light scattering intensity along the critical isochore of He near its
liquid-vapor critical point. The theory provides good agreement with these
experimental measurements within the reduced temperature range
Electrotransport and magnetic properies of Cr-GaSb spintronic materials synthesized under high pressure
Electrotarnsport and magnetic properties of new phases in the system Cr-GaSb
were studied. The samples were prepared by high-pressure (P=6-8 GPa)
high-temperature treatment and identified by x-ray diffraction and scanning
electron microscopy (SEM). One of the CrGaSb phases with an
orthorhombic structure has a combination of ferromagnetic and
semiconductor properties and is potentially promising for spintronic
applications. Another high-temperature phase is paramagnetic and identified as
tetragonal
Transitions In Spectral Statistics
We present long range statistical properties of a recently introduced unitary
random matrix ensemble, whose short range correlations were found to describe a
transition from Wigner to Poisson type as a function of a single parameter.Comment: 12 pp. late
Simian immunodeficiency virus infection in wild-caught chimpanzees from Cameroon
Simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIVcpz) infecting chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) in west central Africa are the closest relatives to all major variants of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 ([HIV-1]; groups M, N and O), and have thus been implicated as the source of the human infections; however, information concerning the prevalence, geographic distribution, and subspecies association of SIVcpz still remains limited. In this study, we tested 71 wild-caught chimpanzees from Cameroon for evidence of SIVcpz infection. Thirty-nine of these were of the central subspecies (Pan troglodytes troglodytes), and 32 were of the Nigerian subspecies (Pan troglodytes vellerosus), as determined by mitochondrial DNA analysis. Serological analysis determined that one P. t. troglodytes ape (CAM13) harbored serum antibodies that cross-reacted strongly with HIV-1 antigens; all other apes were seronegative. To characterize the newly identified virus, 14 partially overlapping viral fragments were amplified from fecal virion RNA and concatenated to yield a complete SIVcpz genome (9,284 bp). Phylogenetic analyses revealed that SIVcpzCAM13 fell well within the radiation of the SIVcpzPtt group of viruses, as part of a clade including all other SIVcpzPtt strains as well as HIV-1 groups M and N. However, SIVcpzCAM13 clustered most closely with SIVcpzGAB1 from Gabon rather than with SIVcpzCAM3 and SIVcpzCAM5 from Cameroon, indicating the existence of divergent SIVcpzPtt lineages within the same geographic region. These data, together with evidence of recombination among ancestral SIVcpzPtt lineages, indicate long-standing endemic infection of central chimpanzees and reaffirm a west central African origin of HIV-1. Whether P. t. vellerosus apes are naturally infected with SIVcpz requires further study
