The changes in water oxygen content depending on the water temperature and depth of Dospat dam lake for the period May 2009 –April 2010 were investigated. The dam lake is situated in the Western Rhodopi Mountain. With it`s altitude of 1200 m above sea level it is the highest dam lake in Bulgaria, with a total of 22 000 dka of flooded area. The average surface layer temperature values vary from 9.6 oC (April) to 22.74oC (July). In the summer months these values are within the limits of 17.26 oC – 22.74oC (0.5 m dept) – 5.26 oC -5.47oC (30 m dept). Lower temperature values were reported during the spring (April-May) and autumn (November). The horizontal differentiation indicates that the average surface layer values of the oxygen content in the water vary from 4.22 mg.1-1 to 11.48 mg.1-1. In the summer months sampling points the values were within the limits of 4.22 mg.1-1–7.47 mg.1-1 (0.5 m depth) and respectively of 1.12 mg.1-1 - 1.60 mg.1-1 (30 m depth). These investigations gave the possibility to determine the periods and the depth zones with optimum values of temperature and oxygen content for trout rearing, which can be used for optimization of the technological process of the net cage aquaculture in Dospat dam lake

The aim of this study is related with the characterization of chemical parameters of organic nitrogen and biogenic elements in sediments of carp ponds, permitting an assessment of their nutritional value. A vertical differentiation was established in the levels of the surveyed chemical indicators of the sediments. In the 0 cm - 15 cm horizon the content of organic nitrogen is on average 47.95% higher, and that of ammonium and nitrate ions is on average of 34% - 37.85% higher compared to that registered in the 15 cm - 30 cm horizon. The content of phosphate ions is 13.1% higher in 15 cm - 30 cm horizon in comparison with the 0 cm - 15 cm horizon. Based on the reported levels of organic nitrogen, soluble inorganic forms of nitrogen and phosphorus, the reserve of bottom sediments is determined as average to good. This characterizes them as a natural source of nutrients with the possibility of their integration in agriculture

Abstract ATANASOVA, R. and L. HADJINIKOLOVA, 2008. Cellular and humoral (non-specific) immunity of carp stocking material (Cyprinus carpio L.) before and after wintering. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., A biochemical characteristic of carp fish stocking material (Cyprinus carpio L.) has been done according to the indices bactericide activity of blood serum (BA); lysozyme activity of blood serum (LA), phagocytic activity (PhA) and phagocytic index (PhI); total proteins (TP) and γ-globulins of blood serum before and after wintering. The studies have been carried out by using two-summer-old (autumn) and two-years-old (spring) clinically healthy carp having a weight of 40 g to 50 g. The relative stability of bactericide activity of blood serum (BA) as an index characterizing carp resistibility during the period of hibernation has been proved. Authentically higher values of lysozyme activity of the one-summer-old carp (K o + ) and of phagocytic activity of the one-year-old carp (K 1 ) have been established. Authentic differences concerning the phagocytic index have not been proved (P<0.05). Total protein level seasonal dynamics expressed in higher autumn and lower spring values has been established. The differences between ã-globulin values of the one-summer and one-year-old carp have been unauthentic (P<0.05)

Abstract HADJNIKOLOVA, L., L. NIKOLOVA and A. STOEVA, 2008. Comparative investigations on the nutritive value of carp fish meat (Cyprinidae), grown at organic aquaculture conditions. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., The aim of this study is to investigate the chemical composition and the caloric value of the carp meat (Cyprinus carpio L.), the bighead carp meat (Aristichtuys nobilis Rich.) and the grass carp meat (Ctenopharyngodon iddela Val.), grown at organic production technology application. The technology of carp, grass carp and bighead carp growing has had most of all an influence on fats contents. It has been established that their level has been authentically higher in bighead carp meat, as regards carp and grass carp meat, grown in ponds, where organic fertilization has been applied. The relative proteins share in the fish grown meat (77.0-84.5%) has been with a more clearly expressed differentiation depending on their species and has been within the limits of 77.0-79.6% for the bighead carp, 81.3% for the carp and 83.5-84.5% for the grass carp. The caloric values of meat has varied within 437.4-545.8 kJ.100 g -1 , 71 % (bighead carp) -84.2% (grass carp) of which has been on the account of the proteins
