Top-Down Approach to Unified Supergravity Models

We introduce a new approach for studying unified supergravity models. In this approach all the parameters of the grand unified theory (GUT) are fixed by imposing the corresponding number of low energy observables. This determines the remaining particle spectrum whose dependence on the low energy observables can now be investigated. We also include some SUSY threshold corrections that have previously been neglected. In particular the SUSY threshold corrections to the fermion masses can have a significant impact on the Yukawa coupling unification.Comment: 19 pages, uuencoded compressed ps file, DESY 94-057 (paper format corrected

The one-loop renormalization of the MSSM Higgs sector and its application to the neutral scalar Higgs masses

    Get PDF
The structure of the Higgs sector in the minimal supersymmetric standard model is reviewed at the one-loop level. An on-shell renormalization scheme of the MSSM Higgs sector is presented in detail together with the complete list of formulae for the neutral Higgs masses at the one-loop level. The results of a complete one- loop calculation for the mass spectrum of the neutral MSSM Higgs bosons and the quality of simpler Born-like approximations are discussed for sfermion and gaugino masses in the range of the electroweak scale.Comment: 32 pages, report KA-THEP-5-199

Scalar Top Quark as the Next-to-Lightest Supersymmetric Particle

    Get PDF
We study phenomenologically the scenario in which the scalar top quark is lighter than any other standard supersymmetric partner and also lighter than the top quark, so that it decays to the gravitino via stop -> W^+ b G. In this case, scalar top quark events would seem to be very difficult to separate from top quark pair production. However, we show that, even at a hadron collider, it is possible to distinguish these two reactions. We show also that the longitudinal polarization of the final W+W^+ gives insight into the scalar top and wino/Higgsino mixing parameters.Comment: 18 pages, LaTeX, 7 figures, minor typographical correction

The Higgs Boson Production Cross Section as a Precision Observable?

    Get PDF
We investigate what can be learned at a linear collider about the sector of electroweak symmetry breaking from a precise measurement of the Higgs boson production cross section through the process e+e- -> hZ. We focus on deviations from the Standard Model arising in its minimal supersymmetric extension. The analysis is performed within two realistic future scenarios, taking into account all prospective experimental errors on supersymmetric particle masses as well as uncertainties from unknown higher order corrections. We find that information on tan beta and M_A could be obtained from a cross section measurement with a precision of 0.5 - 1 %. Alternatively, information could be obtained on the gaugino mass parameters M_2 and mu if they are relatively small, M_2, mu approximately 200 GeV.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures. CP asymmetry in the Higgs decay into the top pair due to the stop mixing

We investigate a potentially large CP violating asymmetry in the decay of a neutral scalar or pseudoscalar Higgs boson into the top-anti-top pair. The source of the CP nonconservation is the complex mixing in the (left-right) stop sector. One of the interesting consequence is the different rates of the Higgs boson decays into CP conjugate polarized states.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures include

On the Observability of "Invisible" / "Nearly Invisible" Charginos

    Get PDF
It is shown that if the charginos decay into very soft leptons or hadrons + \not{E} due to degeneracy/ near- degeneracy with the LSP or the sneutrino, the observability of the recently proposed signal via the single photon (+ soft particles) + \not{E} channel crucially depends on the magnitude of the \SNU mass due to destructive interferences in the matrix element squared. If the \SNU's and, consequently, left-sleptons are relatively light, the size of the signal, previously computed in the limit \MSNU \to \infty only, is drastically reduced. We present the formula for the signal cross section in a model independent way and discuss the observability of the signal at LEP 192 and NLC energies.Comment: 27 pages, Late

Gluino Pair Production at Linear e^+e^- Colliders

    Get PDF
We study the potential of high-energy linear e+ee^+e^- colliders for the production of gluino pairs within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In this model, the process e+eg~g~e^+e^-\to\tilde{g}\tilde{g} is mediated by quark/squark loops, dominantly of the third generation, where the mixing of left- and right-handed states can become large. Taking into account realistic beam polarization effects, photon and Z0Z^0-boson exchange, and current mass exclusion limits, we scan the MSSM parameter space for various e+ee^+e^- center-of-mass energies to determine the regions, where gluino production should be visible.Comment: 22 pages, 9 figure

Constraints on Baryon-Nonconserving Yukawa Couplings in a Supersymmetric Theory

    Get PDF
The 1-loop evolution of couplings in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, extended to include baryon nonconserving (B ⁣ ⁣ ⁣/)(B\!\!\!/) operators through explicit RR-parity violation, is considered keeping only B ⁣ ⁣ ⁣/B\!\!\!/ superpotential terms involving the maximum possible number of third generation superfields. If all retained Yukawa couplings YiY_i are required to remain in the perturbative domain (Yi<1)(Y_i < 1) upto the scale of gauge group unification, upper bounds ensue on the magnitudes of the B ⁣ ⁣ ⁣/B\!\!\!/ coupling strengths at the supersymmetry breaking scale, independent of the model of unification. They turn out to be similar to the corresponding fixed point values reached from a wide range of YiY_i (including all YiY_i greater than unity) at the unification scale. The coupled evolution of the top and B ⁣ ⁣ ⁣/B\!\!\!/ Yukawa couplings results in a reduction of the fixed point value of the former.Comment: PRL-TH-94/8 and TIFR/TH/94-7, 15 pages, LaTe

Higgs-Boson Production Associated with a Single Bottom Quark in Supersymmetric QCD

Due to the enhancement of the couplings between Higgs boson and bottom quarks in the minimal sypersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the cross section of the process pp(p\bar{p}) \to h^0b(h^0\bar{b})+X at hadron colliders can be considerably enhanced. We investigated the production of Higgs boson associated with a single high-p_T bottom quark via subprocess bg(\bar{b}g) \to h^0b(h^0\bar{b}) at hadron colliders including the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections in MSSM. We find that the NLO QCD correction in the MSSM reaches 50%-70% at the LHC and 60%-85% at the Fermilab Tevatron in our chosen parameter space.Comment: accepted by Phys. Rev.

Testing models with non-minimal Higgs sector through the decay t->q+WZ

    Get PDF
We study the contribution of charged Higgs boson to the rare decay of the top quark t->q+WZ (q=d,s,b) in models with Higgs sector that includes doublets and triplets. Higgs doublets are needed to couple charged Higgs with quarks, whereas the Higgs triplets are required to generate the non-standard vertex HWZ at tree-level. It is found that within a model that respect the custodial SU(2) symmetry and avoids flavour changing neutral currents by imposing discrete symmetries, the decay mode t->b+WZ, can reach a branching ratio of order 0.0178, whereas the decay modes t->(d,s)+WZ, can reach a similar branching ratio in models where flavour changing neutral currents are suppressed by flavour symmetries.Comment: Typeset using REVTEX and EPSF, 5 pag, 2 figure
