Non-Engine Order Blade Vibration in a High Pressure Compressor

International audienceHigh amplitude levels of blade vibration have occurred on the first rotor of a multi stage high pressure compressor. The frequencies are not in resonance with harmonics of the rotor speed. The excitation is aerodynamically caused and associated with a rotating flow instability in the blade tip region of the first compressor stage. A vortex shedding mechanism can be interpreted as a rotating source to generate pressure waves. The source moves relative to the blade row at a fraction of the rotor speed, similar to the 'well known mechanism' of rotating stall. To investigate the unsteady flow field in the tip region of the rotor and its relation to the blade vibration, measurements of the pressure and velocity fluctuations in the vicinity of the blade tips are compared with blade vibrations. A calculation model of the spectral characteristics of the pressure fluctuations confirms the measured data. The effect is sensitive to aerodynamic blade loading so that a modification in the design could reduce the mechanism of the rotating excitation

High-speed Civil Transport Aircraft Emissions

Estimates are given for the emissions from a proposed high speed civil transport (HSCT). This advanced technology supersonic aircraft would fly in the lower stratosphere at a speed of roughly Mach 1.6 to 3.2 (470 to 950 m/sec or 920 to 1850 knots). Because it would fly in the stratosphere at an altitude in the range of 15 to 23 km commensurate with its design speed, its exhaust effluents could perturb the chemical balance in the upper atmosphere. The first step in determining the nature and magnitude of any chemical changes in the atmosphere resulting from these proposed aircraft is to identify and quantify the chemically important species they emit. Relevant earlier work is summarized, dating back to the Climatic Impact Assessment Program of the early 1970s and current propulsion research efforts. Estimates are provided of the chemical composition of an HSCT's exhaust, and these emission indices are presented. Other aircraft emissions that are not due to combustion processes are also summarized; these emissions are found to be much smaller than the exhaust emissions. Future advances in propulsion technology, in experimental measurement techniques, and in understanding upper atmospheric chemistry may affect these estimates of the amounts of trace exhaust species or their relative importance

Μια άγνωστη μετάφραση του Δεκαημέρου του Βοκακίου στα ελληνικά – Παρουσίαση υπό όρους Ιστορίας της Μετάφρασης και Πλέγματος Μεταφραστικών Δράσεων δώδεκα διηγημάτων μεταφρασμένων από τον Ν. Γαλάτη (1954)

Το άρθρο παρουσιάζει, για πρώτη φορά, την αβιβλιογράφητη έκδοση του 1954 μιας επιλογής διηγημάτων από το Δεκαήμερο του Βοκακίου, σε μετάφραση Ν. Γαλάτη. Πρόκειται για ένα σημαντικό, νέο εύρημα στην ιστορία των μεταφράσεων του Δεκαημέρου του Βοκακίου στα ελληνικά.Η έρευνα αποτελεί μια πρώτη προσέγγιση του νέου μεταφράσματος βάσει κυρίως των παρακειμενικών πληροφοριών της έκδοσης και όχι ενδελεχή ανάλυσή του. Πέρα από τυπογραφικά και εκδοτικά στοιχεία, αναφέρομαι σε βιογραφικά στοιχεία του μεταφραστή, καθώς και προσδιορίζω ποια διηγήματα του πρωτοτύπου επιλέγησαν προς μετάφραση και έκδοση. Περαιτέρω, γίνεται προσπάθεια στοιχειοθέτησης της γλώσσας πηγής που χρησιμοποίησε ο μεταφραστής.Το άρθρο εντάσσεται στα επιστημονικά πεδία της Ιστορίας της Μετάφρασης (Translation History) και του Πλέγματος Μεταφραστικών Δράσεων (Translation Agency), με έμφαση στο πρόσωπο του μεταφραστή, ως κύριου δρώντος, την εμφάνεια (visibility) και τη φωνή (voice) του, εντός του γενικότερου πλαισίου της Περιγραφικής Μεταφρασεολογίας (Decriptive Translation Studies). Από μεθοδολογικής άποψης, για το άρθρο αυτό χρησιμοποιήθηκε η μεικτή μεθοδολογία.Η άγνωστη εν λόγω έκδοση είναι ιδιαιτέρως σημαντική, καθώς καταδεικνύει ότι υφίσταται ακόμη πεδίο έρευνας για τις μεταφράσεις του Δεκαημέρου στα ελληνικά, παρά την ενδελεχή επί του θέματος ελληνική βιβλιογραφία (Ζωγραφίδου 1999, Hourmouziadis 2023). In questo articolo viene presentata, per la prima volta nella bibliografia esistente, una edizione del 1954 di una selezione di novelle del Decameron di Boccaccio, tradotte in greco da Nikolaos Galatis. Si tratta di una scoperta importante per la storia delle traduzioni del Decameron in greco, visto che l’edizione in questione non è stata finora repertoriata.La presente contribuzione rappresenta un primo approccio della edizione in questione sulla base delle informazioni paratestuali e non sulla base di una sua analisi approfondita. Oltre agli elementi editoriali e tipografici, mi riferirò a elementi biografici del traduttore, anzi come identificherò le novelle dell’originale che sono state tradotte. Inoltre, cercherò di mettere in evvidenza la lingua di partenza che N. Galatis ha usato per la presente traduzione.L’articolo s’iscrive nella ricerca dei campi scientifici della Storia della Traduzione e della Translation Agency, mettendo a fuoco la persona del traduttore e le questioni della sua visibilità e voce, in un contesto più ampio di Traduttologia Descrittiva (Decriptive Translation Studies). Per lo scopo di questo articolo e dal ponto di vista metodologico è stata utilizzata la metodologia mista (Mixed Methods).Questa edizione finora sconosciuta si prova particolarmente importante, poiché dimostri che c’è ancora un considerevole campo per ricercare le traduzioni del Decameron in greco, nonostante la dettagliata bibliografia esistente sul tema (Zografidou 1999, Hourmouziadis 2023)

ΚΟΣΩΝ Gold Staters and Silver Drachmae - A Die Study

Im Namen des ΚΟΣΩΝ gibt es Goldstatere und Silberdrachmen gleicher Ikonographie. Eine Stempelstudie zeigt, daß für die Statere drei Vorder-und zehn Rückseitenstempel in drei getrennten Gruppen verwendet wurden. Die Drachmen wurden mit einem Stempelpaar aus einer dieser Gruppen geschlagen.The coinage in the name of ΚΟΣΩΝ includes gold staters and silver drachmae with the same iconography. A die study shows that three obverse and ten reverse dies in three separate groups were used for the staters. Η τύχη του Δεκαήμερου του Βοκάκιου στα ελληνικά από τον δέκατο έκτο αιώνα έως σήμερα: εξερευνώντας τη δράση των δρώντων περί τη μετάφραση (translation agency)

The thesis deals with issues of translation agency based on the diachronic analysis of Greek translations of three tales of Boccaccio's Decameron, namely tales II/5, IV/5 and VII/7. After a presentation of the state of the art in the particular subfield of Translation History, axed around the eight D'hulst Latin queues (quis, quid, ubi, quibis auxiliis, cur, quomodo, quando, cui bono), a thorough presentation of Boccaccio's translated corpus in Greek is offered. Furthermore questions are put to the fore, with the intention to underscore lacunae in the existing study from a translation agency point of view. They concern mainly issues of Agency, Habitus, Retranslation/Adaptation/Indirect Translation, Language issues (a particularity of the Greek translations - see The Greek Language Issue), and Translatorship versus Authorship. For the thesis we decided to make use of a Mixed Methods methodology. The research design is provided; the working claims are formulated, mainly our effort to present a model Greek translator of the Decameron and to fill in the gaps in the Greek tradition, in this particular topic. The role of translation agency is studied as per individual Tales' translations. Biographical data on translators are offered, as well as socio-cultural and historical information. Moreover, each tale is examined under a different set of one or more of the theoretical topics mentioned above. The translations' presentation always includes a part of textual analysis, corroborating the theoretical issues dealt with as per Tale. Conclusions and verification of our working claims is provided in the end, along with extensive tables, informative material, bibliographical references and annexes.Η διατριβή πραγματεύεται ζητήματα Translation Agency με βάση τη διαχρονική ανάλυση των ελληνικών μεταφράσεων τριών διηγημάτων του Δεκαημέρου του Βοκακίου, ειδικότερα των διηγημάτων II/5, IV/5 και VII/7. Μετά από μια παρουσίαση των τελευταίων επιστημονικών εννοιών στο συγκεκριμένο υποπεδίο της Ιστορίας της Μετάφρασης, η οποία σμιλεύτηκε γύρω από τα οκτώ λατινικά loci του D'hulst (quis, quid, ubi, quibis auxiliis, cur, quomodo, quando, cui bono),  παρατίθεται μια διεξοδική παρουσίαση του μεταφρασμένου corpus του Βοκακίου στα ελληνικά. Περαιτέρω, τίθενται ερωτήματα σε μια προσπάθεια να υπογραμμιστούν τα κενά της υπάρχουσας μελέτης από τη σκοπιά της Translation Agency. Αφορούν κυρίως θέματα Agency, Habitus, Αναμετάφρασης/Απόδοσης/Έμμεσης Μετάφρασης, Γλωσσικά ζητήματα (μια ιδιαιτερότητα των ελληνικών μεταφράσεων - βλ. Θέμα Ελληνικής Γλώσσας), και του διπόλου Μεταφραστής και Συγγραφέας. Αποφασίστηκε να χρησιμοποιηθεί ως  μεθοδολογικό εργαλείο οι Μεικτές Μέθοδοι (Mixed Methods). Εν συνεχεία, παρουσιάζεται το πλάνο της έρευνας. Διατυπώνονται οι ισχυρισμοί εργασίας, δηλ. βασικώς η προσπάθειά μας να παρουσιάσουμε ένα πρότυπο Έλληνα μεταφραστή του Δεκαημέρου και να καλύψουμε τα κενά της ελληνικής παράδοσης, στο συγκεκριμένο θέμα. Ο ρόλος της Translation Agency μελετάται στις κάθε επιμέρους μεταφράσεις των διηγημάτων. Προσφέρονται βιογραφικά στοιχεία για τους μεταφραστές, καθώς και κοινωνικοπολιτιστικές και ιστορικές πληροφορίες. Επιπλέον, το κάθε διήγημα εξετάζεται υπό διαφορετικό σύνολο εκ των θεωρητικών εννοιών που αναφέρονται παραπάνω. Η παρουσίαση των μεταφράσεων περιλαμβάνει πάντα ένα μέρος της κειμενικής ανάλυσης, που προσπαθεί να επιβεβαιώσει τα θεωρητικά ζητήματα που χειριστήκαμε ανά διήγημα. Συμπεράσματα και επαλήθευση των ισχυρισμών εργασίας παρέχονται στο τέλος, μαζί με εκτενείς πίνακες, ενημερωτικό υλικό, βιβλιογραφικές αναφορές και παραρτήματα
