Knots and Contact Geometry
We classify Legendrian torus knots and figure eight knots in the tight
contact structure on the 3-sphere up to Legendrian isotopy. As a corollary to
this we also obtain the classification of transversal torus knots and figure
eight knots up to transversal isotopy
Deformation of LeBrun's ALE metrics with negative mass
In this article we investigate deformations of a scalar-flat K\"ahler metric
on the total space of complex line bundles over CP^1 constructed by C. LeBrun.
In particular, we find that the metric is included in a one-dimensional family
of such metrics on the four-manifold, where the complex structure in the
deformation is not the standard one.Comment: 20 pages, no figure. V2: added two references, filled a gap in the
proof of Theorem 1.2. V3: corrected a wrong statement about Kuranishi family
of a Hirzebruch surface stated in the last paragraph in the proof of Theorem
1.2, and fixed a relevant error in the proof. Also added a reference [24]
about Kuranishi family of Hirzebruch surface
Double solid twistor spaces: the case of arbitrary signature
In a recent paper (math.DG/0701278) we constructed a series of new Moishezon
twistor spaces which is a kind of variant of the famous LeBrun twistor spaces.
In this paper we explicitly give projective models of another series of
Moishezon twistor spaces on nCP^2 for arbitrary n>2, which can be regarded as a
generalization of the twistor spaces of a 'double solid type' on 3CP^2 studied
by Kreussler, Kurke, Poon and the author. Similarly to the twistor spaces of
'double solid type' on 3CP^2, projective models of present twistor spaces have
a natural structure of double covering of a CP^2-bundle over CP^1. We
explicitly give a defining polynomial of the branch divisor of the double
covering whose restriction to fibers are degree four. If n>3 these are new
twistor spaces, to the best of the author's knowledge. We also compute the
dimension of the moduli space of these twistor spaces. Differently from
math.DG/0701278, the present investigation is based on analysis of
pluri-(half-)anticanonical systems of the twistor spaces.Comment: 30 pages, 3 figures; v2: title changed (the original title was

Possible textures of the fermion mass matrices
Texture specific fermion mass matrices have played an important role in
understanding several features of fermion masses and mixings. In the present
work, we have given an overview of all possible cases of Fritzsch-like as well
as non Fritzsch-like texture 6 and 5 zero fermion mass matrices. Further, for
the case of texture 4 zero Fritzsch-like quark mass matrices, the issue of the
hierarchy of the elements of the mass matrices and the role of their phases
have been discussed. Furthermore, the case of texture 4 zero Fritzsch-like
lepton mass matrices has also been discussed with an emphasis on the hierarchy
of neutrino masses for both Majorana and Dirac neutrinos.Comment: 21 pages, 3 figure
High-field phase diagram of the Haldane-gap antiferromagnet
We have determined the magnetic phase diagram of the quasi-one-dimensional
1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet by
specific heat measurements to 150 mK in temperature and 32 T in magnetic field.
When field is applied along the spin-chain direction, a new phase appears at
T. For the previously known phases of field-induced order,
accurate determination is made of the power-law exponents of the ordering
temperature near the zero-temperature critical field , owing to the
four-fold improvement of the minimum temperature over the previous work. The
results are compared with the predictions based on the Bose-Einstein
condensation of triplet excitations. Substituting deuterium for hydrogen is
found to slightly reduce the interchain exchange.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure
Covariation Among Vowel Height Effects on Acoustic Measures
Covariation among vowel height effects on vowel intrinsic fundamental frequency (IF0), voice onset time (VOT), and voiceless interval duration (VID) is analyzed to assess the plausibility of a common physiological mechanism underlying variation in these measures. Phrases spoken by 20 young adults, containing words composed of initial voiceless stops or /s/ and high or low vowels, were produced in habitual and voluntarily increased F0 conditions. High vowels were associated with increased IF0 and longer VIDs. VOT and VID exhibited significant covariation with IF0 only for males at habitua
