This study aims at identifying issues for promoting effective vocational education for dietetics students in management of feeding service. Views of entertainment in female dietetics students of junior college were investigated by questionnaire survey and 39.2% of dishes as an entertainment selected by subjects were Japanese style dishes, especially sushi was a representative menu. The structural elements of menu classified by diet styles were analyzed. The rate of syusyoku (main dishes prepared cereals) in Japanese style diet was higher than in Western style diet, in contrast with this, the rate of syusai (chief dishes as subsidiary articles of diet) in Western style diet was higher than in Japanese style diet. When subjects changed their standpoints on feeding, their important elements as the image of entertainment also were changed. In the standpoint of dietitian, these elements were remarkably different from those in the standpoint of eater. The issues were summarized as follows: It is important that dietetics students study to seize the favorite dishes and the image of entertainment for subjects of feeding service. They should bear in mind to recognize the merits of Japanese style diet by studying on the structural elements of menu and to intensify the image of entertainment by planning of menu in feeding service with various dishes suited the structural elements of menu

VLBI Monitoring of 3C 84 (NGC 1275) in Early Phase of the 2005 Outburst

Multi-epoch Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) study of the sub-pc scale jet of 3C 84 is presented. We carried out 14-epoch VLBI observations during 2006-2009 with the Japanese VLBI Network (JVN) and the VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry (VERA), immediately following the radio outburst that began in 2005. We confirmed that the outburst was associated with the central ~1 pc core, accompanying the emergence of a new component. This is striking evidence of the recurrence of jet activity. The new component became brighter during 2008, in contrast to the constant gamma-ray emission that was observed with the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope during the same time. We found that the projected speed of the new component is 0.23c from 2007/297 (2007 October 24) to 2009/114 (2009 April 24). The direction of movement of this component differs from that of the pre-existing component by ~40 degree. This is the first measurement of kinematics of a sub-pc jet in a gamma-ray active phase. Possible detection of jet deceleration and the jet kinematics in connection with the gamma-ray emission is discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. Accepted for publication in PAS

Comparability of Weighed Dietary Records and a Self-Administered Diet History Questionnaire for Estimating Monetary Cost of Dietary Energy

An increasing number of studies have estimated monetary diet cost using various dietary assessment methods, based on databases on retail food prices, for investigating its association with dietary intake and health outcomes. However, information regarding the comparability of monetary diet cost across dietary assessment methods is absolutely lacking. This study compared monetary cost of dietary energy estimated from weighed dietary records (DRs) with that estimated from a self-administered diet history questionnaire (DHQ). The subjects were 92 Japanese women aged 31–69 years and 92 Japanese men aged 32–76 years. The DHQ (assessing diet during the preceding month) and 4-day DRs (one weekend day and three weekdays) were completed in each season over a 1-year period (DHQs1-4 and DRs1-4, respectively). An additional DHQ was completed at one year after completing DHQ1 (DHQ5). Monetary cost of dietary energy (Japanese yen/4184 kJ) was calculated using food intake information derived from each dietary assessment method, based on retail food prices. Pearson correlation between the mean of DRs1-4 and mean of DHQs1-4 was 0.64 for women and 0.69 for men. Pearson correlation between the mean of DRs1-4 and DHQ1 was 0.60 for women and 0.52 for men, while intraclass correlation between DHQ1 and DHQ5 was 0.64 for women and 0.51 for men. These data indicate reasonable comparability of monetary cost of dietary energy across DR and a DHQ as well as usefulness of a single administration of the DHQ for estimating monetary cost of dietary energy
