Pressure Dependence of Wall Relaxation in Polarized 3^3He Gaseous Cells

We have observed a linear pressure dependence of longitudinal relaxation time (T1T_1) at 4.2 K and 295 K in gaseous 3^3He cells made of either bare pyrex glass or Cs/Rb-coated pyrex due to paramagnetic sites in the cell wall. The paramagnetic wall relaxation is previously thought to be independent of 3^3He pressure. We develop a model to interpret the observed wall relaxation by taking into account the diffusion process, and our model gives a good description of the data

Precision spectroscopy and density-dependent frequency shifts in ultracold Sr

By varying the density of an ultracold 88^{88}Sr sample from 10910^9 cmβˆ’3^{-3} to >1012> 10^{12} cmβˆ’3^{-3}, we make the first definitive measurement of the density-related frequency shift and linewidth broadening of the 1S0^1S_0 - 3P1^3P_1 optical clock transition in an alkaline earth system. In addition, we report the most accurate measurement to date of the 88^{88}Sr 1S0βˆ’3P1^1S_0 - ^3P_1 optical clock transition frequency. Including a detailed analysis of systematic errors, the frequency is (434829121312334Β±20statΒ±33sys434 829 121 312 334 \pm 20_{stat} \pm 33_{sys}) Hz.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, 1 table. submitte

Magnetic Interaction in the Geometrically Frustrated Triangular Lattice Antiferromagnet CuFeO2\rm CuFeO_2

The spin wave excitations of the geometrically frustrated triangular lattice antiferromagnet (TLA) CuFeO2\rm CuFeO_2 have been measured using high resolution inelastic neutron scattering. Antiferromagnetic interactions up to third nearest neighbors in the ab plane (J_1, J_2, J_3, with J2/J1β‰ˆ0.44J_2/J_1 \approx 0.44 and J3/J1β‰ˆ0.57J_3/J_1 \approx 0.57), as well as out-of-plane coupling (J_z, with Jz/J1β‰ˆ0.29J_z/J_1 \approx 0.29) are required to describe the spin wave dispersion relations, indicating a three dimensional character of the magnetic interactions. Two energy dips in the spin wave dispersion occur at the incommensurate wavevectors associated with multiferroic phase, and can be interpreted as dynamic precursors to the magnetoelectric behavior in this system.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, published in Phys. Single crystal MgB2 with anisotropic superconducting properties

The discovery of superconductor in magnesium diboride MgB2 with high Tc (39 K) has raised some challenging issues; whether this new superconductor resembles a high temperature cuprate superconductor(HTS) or a low temperature metallic superconductor; which superconducting mechanism, a phonon- mediated BCS or a hole superconducting mechanism or other new exotic mechanism may account for this superconductivity; and how about its future for applications. In order to clarify the above questions, experiments using the single crystal sample are urgently required. Here we have first succeeded in obtaining the single crystal of this new MgB2 superconductivity, and performed its electrical resistance and magnetization measurements. Their experiments show that the electronic and magnetic properties depend on the crystallographic direction. Our results indicate that the single crystal MgB2 superconductor shows anisotropic superconducting properties and thus can provide scientific basis for the research of its superconducting mechanism and its applications.Comment: 7 pages pdf fil
