Antimicrobial studies of unsymmetrical bis-1,2,3-triazoles
Aryl azides were treated with allenylmagnesium bromide to generate 1,5-disubstituted butynyl 1,2,3-triazoles in a domino fashion, which upon Cu(I) catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with aryl azides afforded novel bis-1,2,3-triazoles in quantitative yields. The final products were analyzed for their antimicrobial activities against a panel of bacterial and fungal strains which revealed the products to be potent antimicrobials
The Role of Audio Visual Contents on the Development of Education in Bangladesh: A Systematic Review
Background: The act of communicating with another person is referred to as communication. Information is any written, audiovisual information that conveys knowledge about a new person, place, thing, situation, or environment. To execute this, one need a sender and a receiver as well as a medium, a message that makes sense, and discussion. Audio-visual digital materials are a vital part of the world's sustainable educational development in this era of technology. Objectives: The purpose of this research is to identify how audiovisual materials have impacted Bangladesh's educational advancement. Methods: The study's data came from Scopus and Google Scholar, PUBMED articles that were published between 2004 and 2019. To find further studies, the reference lists of all included studies and pertinent systematic reviews were examined. All searches were limited to just human research and the English language. This systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Results: The results of 10 studies, selected at random, indicate that more widespread use of audio-visual information might improve technical knowledge, attitudes, and practices in educational advancement as well as reduce all forms of illiteracy in Bangladesh. Conclusion: After reading the articles, it was determined that audiovisual content plays a specific role in the educational development, increasing knowledge, attitude, and practice. In-depth research and projects are needed to understand the audio-visual concept's contribution to society. Keyword: Role, audio-visual contents, education, advancements, Bangladesh. Fabrication, structural, optical, electrical, and humidity sensing characteristics of hierarchical NiO nanosheet/nanoball fower like structure flms
In this work, nickel oxide (NiO) nanosheet/nanoball-fower-like structures (NSBS) were directly grown on a NiO seed-coated glass substrate using a low-temperature immersion method at 75 ºC. The thickness, or density, of the nanoball-fower-like structures difered based on the following samples order: NSBS1< NSBS2< NSBS3. The synthesised NSBS flms were investigated in terms of structural, optical, electrical, and humidity sensing characteristics. The X-ray difraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the NSBS samples corresponded to the face-centred cubic NiO with fve difraction patterns indexed to the (111), (200), (220), (311), and (222) planes. The interplanar spacing, lattice parameter, unit cell volume, strain, and stress were also determined from the XRD results. The transmittance spectra showed that the NSBS samples had a transparency of more than 30% in the visible region. The optical bandgap values for the NSBS samples were estimated in the range between 3.72 and 3.75 eV, which is directly related to their lattice expansion and defect characteristics. The current–voltage and Hall efect measurement results revealed that the NSBS2 displayed good electrical properties with the resistance, hole concentration, and hole mobility values of 7.84 MΩ, 8.71×1015 hole/cm−3, and 1.88×102 cm2 /V s, respectively. The NSBS samples performed well for humidity sensing with the highest sensitivity value of 169 being obtained for the NSBS2. These humidity sensing results correlated well with their structural, optical, and electrical characteristics
Influence of annealing temperature on the sensitivity of nickel oxide nanosheet films in humidity sensing applications
Nickel oxide (NiO) nanosheet films were successfully grown onto NiO seed-coated glass substrates at different annealing temperatures for humidity sensing applications. NiO seed layers and NiO nanosheet films were prepared using a sol-gel spin coating and sonicated sol-gel immersion techniques, respectively. The properties of NiO nanosheet films at as-deposited, 300 ℃, and 500 ℃-annealed were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, and humidity sensor measurement system. The XRD patterns demonstrate that the grown NiO films have crystalline cubic structures at temperature of 300 ℃ and 500 ℃. The FESEM images show that the large porous nanosheet network spread over the layers as the annealing temperature increased. The UV-vis spectra revealed that all the nanosheet films have the average transmittance below than 50% in the visible region, with absorption edges ~ 350 nm. The optical band gap energy was evaluated in ranges of 3.39 to 3.61 eV. From the obtained humidity sensing results, it shows that 500 ℃-annealed film exhibited the best sensitivity of 257, as well as the slowest response time, and the fastest recovery time compared with others
Modulation of Sn concentration in ZnO nanorod array: intensification on the conductivity and humidity sensing properties
Tin (Sn)-doped zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod arrays (TZO) were synthesized onto aluminum-doped ZnO-coated glass substrate via a facile sonicated sol–gel immersion method for humidity sensor applications. These nanorod arrays were grown at different Sn concentrations ranging from 0.6 to 3 at.%. X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the deposited TZO arrays exhibited a wurtzite structure. The stress/strain condition of the ZnO film metamorphosed from tensile strain/compressive stress to compressive strain/tensile stress when the Sn concentrations increased. Results indicated that 1 at.% Sn doping of TZO, which has the lowest tensile stress of 0.14 GPa, generated the highest conductivity of 1.31 S cm− 1. In addition, 1 at.% Sn doping of TZO possessed superior sensitivity to a humidity of 3.36. These results revealed that the optimum performance of a humidity-sensing device can be obtained mainly by controlling the amount of extrinsic element in a ZnO film
Longitudinal strain is an independent predictor of survival and response to therapy in patients with systemic AL amyloidosis
AIMS:
Cardiac involvement, a major determinant of prognosis in AL (light-chain immunoglobulin) amyloidosis, is characterized by an impairment of longitudinal strain (LS%). We sought to evaluate the utility of LS% in a prospectively observed series of patients.
METHODS AND RESULTS:
A total of 915 serial newly diagnosed AL patients with comprehensive baseline assessments, inclusive of echocardiography, were included. A total of 628/915 (68.6%) patients had cardiac involvement. The LS% worsened with advancing cardiac stage with mean −21.1%, −17.1%, −12.9%, and −12.1% for stages I, II, IIIa, and IIIb, respectively (P < 0.0001). There was a highly significant worsening of overall survival (OS) with worsening LS% quartile: LS% ≤−16.2%: 80 months, −16.1% to −12.2%: 36 [95% confidence interval (CI) 20.9–51.1] months, −12.1% to −9.1%: 22 (95% CI 9.1–34.9) months, and ≥−9.0%: 5 (95% CI 3.2–6.8) months (P < 0.0001). Improvement in LS% was seen at 12 months in patients achieving a haematological complete response (CR) (median improvement from −13.8% to −14.9% in those with CR and difference between involved and uninvolved light chain <10 mg/L). Strain improvement was associated with improved OS (median not reached at 53 months vs. 72 months in patients without strain improvement, P = 0.007). Patients achieving an LS% improvement and a standard N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide-based cardiac response survived longer than those achieving a biomarker-based cardiac response alone (P < 0.0001).
CONCLUSION:
Baseline LS% is a functional marker that correlates with worsening cardiac involvement and is predictive of survival. Baseline LS% and an absolute improvement in LS% are useful additional measures of prognosis and response to therapy in cardiac AL amyloidosis, respectively
Assessment of the Risk of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Reinfection in an Intense Reexposure Setting.
BACKGROUND: Risk of reinfection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is unknown. We assessed the risk and incidence rate of documented SARS-CoV-2 reinfection in a cohort of laboratory-confirmed cases in Qatar. METHODS: All SARS-CoV-2 laboratory-confirmed cases with at least 1 polymerase chain reaction-positive swab that was ≥45 days after a first positive swab were individually investigated for evidence of reinfection. Viral genome sequencing of the paired first positive and reinfection viral specimens was conducted to confirm reinfection. RESULTS: Out of 133 266 laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases, 243 persons (0.18%) had at least 1 subsequent positive swab ≥45 days after the first positive swab. Of these, 54 cases (22.2%) had strong or good evidence for reinfection. Median time between the first swab and reinfection swab was 64.5 days (range, 45-129). Twenty-three of the 54 cases (42.6%) were diagnosed at a health facility, suggesting presence of symptoms, while 31 (57.4%) were identified incidentally through random testing campaigns/surveys or contact tracing. Only 1 person was hospitalized at the time of reinfection but was discharged the next day. No deaths were recorded. Viral genome sequencing confirmed 4 reinfections of 12 cases with available genetic evidence. Reinfection risk was estimated at 0.02% (95% confidence interval [CI], .01%-.02%), and reinfection incidence rate was 0.36 (95% CI, .28-.47) per 10 000 person-weeks. CONCLUSIONS: SARS-CoV-2 reinfection can occur but is a rare phenomenon suggestive of protective immunity against reinfection that lasts for at least a few months post primary infection
SARS-CoV-2 antibody-positivity protects against reinfection for at least seven months with 95% efficacy.
BACKGROUND: Reinfection with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been documented, raising public health concerns. SARS-CoV-2 reinfections were assessed in a cohort of antibody-positive persons in Qatar. METHODS: All SARS-CoV-2 antibody-positive persons from April 16 to December 31, 2020 with a PCR-positive swab ≥14 days after the first-positive antibody test were investigated for evidence of reinfection. Viral genome sequencing was conducted for paired viral specimens to confirm reinfection. Incidence of reinfection was compared to incidence of infection in the complement cohort of those who were antibody-negative. FINDINGS: Among 43,044 antibody-positive persons who were followed for a median of 16.3 weeks (range: 0-34.6), 314 individuals (0.7%) had at least one PCR positive swab ≥14 days after the first-positive antibody test. Of these individuals, 129 (41.1%) had supporting epidemiological evidence for reinfection. Reinfection was next investigated using viral genome sequencing. Applying the viral-genome-sequencing confirmation rate, the incidence rate of reinfection was estimated at 0.66 per 10,000 person-weeks (95% CI: 0.56-0.78). Incidence rate of reinfection versus month of follow-up did not show any evidence of waning of immunity for over seven months of follow-up. Meanwhile, in the complement cohort of 149,923 antibody-negative persons followed for a median of 17.0 weeks (range: 0-45.6), incidence rate of infection was estimated at 13.69 per 10,000 person-weeks (95% CI: 13.22-14.14). Efficacy of natural infection against reinfection was estimated at 95.2% (95% CI: 94.1-96.0%). Reinfections were less severe than primary infections. Only one reinfection was severe, two were moderate, and none were critical or fatal. Most reinfections (66.7%) were diagnosed incidentally through random or routine testing, or through contact tracing. INTERPRETATION: Reinfection is rare in the young and international population of Qatar. Natural infection appears to elicit strong protection against reinfection with an efficacy ~95% for at least seven months. Two prolonged viremic SARS-CoV-2 infections with conserved viral genome for two months.
We document two cases of viremic and prolonged active infection with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) where the viral genome was conserved for two months, but infection was with little or no symptoms. The first infection persisted for 80Â days and the second for 62Â days. Clearance of infection occurred 40 and 41Â days, respectively, after development of detectable antibodies. Both cases were identified incidentally in an investigation of reinfection in a cohort of 133,266 laboratory-confirmed infected persons
