Detecting multiple authorship of United States Supreme Court legal decisions using function words

This paper uses statistical analysis of function words used in legal judgments written by United States Supreme Court justices, to determine which justices have the most variable writing style (which may indicated greater reliance on their law clerks when writing opinions), and also the extent to which different justices' writing styles are distinguishable from each other.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/10-AOAS378 the Annals of Applied Statistics (http://www.imstat.org/aoas/) by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (http://www.imstat.org

Application of the parametrical surface-wave prediction model to rapidly varying wind fields during JONSWAP 1973

The capability of a parametrical surface wave model to predict the sea state on a small array for highly variable wind fields is shown for three examples. The model treats the wind sea, for which the nonlinear interaction is most effective, in a parametrical sense. The swell is propagated along characteristics, and the source function for the swell is assumed to be zero. The model output is compared with wave measure- ments from the JONSWAP 73 experimen

TRAVEL COST MODELS, HETEROSKEDASTICITY, AND SAMPLING

Using theoretical derivations, it is shown that collecting data on individuals' visitation rates to a recreation site by each of these methods: (1) on-site sampling of visits; (2) sampling individuals surrounding the recreations site; and (3) sampling license holders, results in three unique heteroskedacity problems. A different weighted least squares approach is offered in each case when estimating the visits per capita-travel cost relationship in zonal travel cost models. Furthermore, to the extent that individuals within an origin zone face different prices, there is an inherent aggregation bias when estimating consumer surplus.Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

Fabrication of titanium multi-wall Thermal Protection System (TPS) test panel arrays
