On Online Engagement: Does the Leadership Style Matter?
The news industry is facing tremendous changes. Integrating digital technologies into news practices has become the key to survival. Social media engagement editors are one of such innovations to respond to the challenge. Engagement editors are required to facilitate the functions of marketing, editing, content production, and data analysis. They thus play the role of boundary-spanner within and beyond the organizational boundaries. However, there are few studies to explore issues associated with the management of social media engagement editors. This research examines whether and how the leadership style (i.e., transformational and passive leadership style) influences engagement editors’ job performance. We collected 122 valid responses, and used the SmartPLS 3 and SPSS 19.0 to analyze the data. Our findings indicate that performance of engagement editors is influenced by the leadership style; moreover, job autonomy mediates the positive effect of transformational leadership on engagement editors’ job performance. Implications for the management of social media engagement editors are discussed
LiBC by polarized Raman spectroscopy: Evidence for lower crystal symmetry ?
The paper presents polarized Raman scattering study on a few-micron-size
crystallite of LiBC with natural faces. The experiment on as grown sample has
revealed a four lattice modes with frequencies at 1276 cm^-1, 830 cm^-1, 546
cm^-1 and 170 cm^-1, respectively. The number of observed Raman lines and their
selection rules are incompatible with the assumed D6h symmetry. The modes at
1276 cm^-1 and 170 cm^-1 correspond to the expected Raman active modes. In
contrast with the superconducting compound MgB2, the B-C bond stretching mode
(at 1276 cm^-1) has rather small damping. The two "forbidden" modes (at 830

Customer segmentation using online platforms: isolating behavioral and demographic segments for persona creation via aggregated user data
We propose a novel approach for isolating customer segments using online customer data for products that are distributed via online social media platforms. We use non-negative matrix factorization to first identify behavioral customer segments and then to identify demographic customer segments. We employ a methodology for linking the two segments to present integrated and holistic customer segments, also known as personas. Behavioral segments are generated from customer interactions with online content. Demographic segments are generated using the gender, age, and location of these customers. In addition to evaluating our approach, we demonstrate its practicality via a system leveraging these customer segments to automatically generate personas, which are fictional but accurate representations of each integrated behavioral and demographic segment. Results show that this approach can accurately identify both behavioral and demographical customer segments using actual online customer data from which we can generate personas representing real groups of people
Far-infrared transmission studies of c-axis oriented superconducting MgB2 thin film
We reported far-infrared transmission measurements on a c-axis oriented
superconducting MgB thin film in the frequency range of 30 250
cm. We found that these measurements were sensitive to values of
scattering rate and superconducting gap . By fitting the
experimental transmission spectra at 40 K and below, we obtained
(700 1000) cm and 42 cm. These two
quantities suggested that MgB belong to the dirty limit.Comment: submitted at May
Imaginary People Representing Real Numbers: Generating Personas from Online Social Media Data
We develop a methodology to automate creating imaginary people, referred
to as personas, by processing complex behavioral and demographic data
of social media audiences. From a popular social media account
containing more than 30 million interactions by viewers from 198
countries engaging with more than 4,200 online videos produced by a
global media corporation, we demonstrate that our methodology has
several novel accomplishments, including: (a) identifying distinct user
behavioral segments based on the user content consumption patterns; (b)
identifying impactful demographics groupings; and (c) creating rich
persona descriptions by automatically adding pertinent attributes, such
as names, photos, and personal characteristics. We validate our approach
by implementing the methodology into an actual working system; we then
evaluate it via quantitative methods by examining the accuracy of
predicting content preference of personas, the stability of the personas
over time, and the generalizability of the method via applying to two
other datasets. Research findings show the approach can develop rich
personas representing the behavior and demographics of real audiences
using privacy-preserving aggregated online social media data from major
online platforms. Results have implications for media companies and
other organizations distributing content via online platforms.</p
Impact of the gate geometry on adiabatic charge pumping in InAs double quantum dots
We compare the adiabatic quantized charge pumping performed in two types of InAs nanowire double quantum dots (DQDs), either with tunnel barriers defined by closely spaced narrow bottom gates, or by well-separated side gates. In the device with an array of bottom gates of 100 nm pitch and 10 mu m lengths, the pump current is quantized only up to frequencies of a few MHz due to the strong capacitive coupling between the bottom gates. In contrast, in devices with well-separated side gates with reduced mutual gate capacitances, we find well-defined pump currents up to 30 MHz. Our experiments demonstrate that high frequency quantized charge pumping requires careful optimization of the device geometry, including the typically neglected gate feed lines
Impact of Chronic Cough on Health-Related Quality of Life in the Korean Adult General Population: The Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010–2016
PurposeChronic cough is a prevalent condition in the community and may pose considerable impairment to quality of life (QoL). However, its disease burden remains largely undefined in the general population. The present study investigated the relationship between chronic cough and health-related QoL in a Korean nationwide population database, with an emphasis on clinical conditions which may confound the impact of cough.MethodsThis study analyzed cross-sectional datasets of adults (aged ≥ 40 years) in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010–2016. Health-related QoL was assessed using the 3-level EuroQoL 5-dimension component (EQ-5D-3L) index score. The presence of chronic cough and other conditions were defined using structured questionnaires.ResultsThe prevalence of chronic cough was 3.48% ± 0.17% among adults aged ≥ 40 years. The overall EQ-5D-3L index score was significantly lower in subjects with than without chronic cough (0.79 ± 0.01 vs. 0.86 ± 0.00, P < 0.001). In subgroup analyses by age and sex, chronic cough had a notably large impact on QoL in women aged ≥ 65 years (vs. those without chronic cough: 0.55 ± 0.04 vs. 0.70 ± 0.01, P < 0.001), although the mean difference in the scores exceeded the minimally important difference score of 0.05 in all subgroups. In multivariate analyses, chronic cough was significantly associated with QoL, independent of confounders including depression, arthritis, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In dimension analyses, chronic cough was more associated with anxiety/depression, pain/discomfort, and usual activities than with self-care or mobility in the EQ-5D.ConclusionsThe present study demonstrated significant associations between chronic cough and health-related QoL in a nationwide large general adult population aged ≥ 40 years, which were independent of clinical confounders. The impact of chronic cough was greater in women aged ≥ 65 years. These findings indicate a considerable burden of chronic cough in the general population and warrant further investigations to assess the disease burden of chronic cough in a global scale
RVB Contribution to Superconductivity in
We view as electronically equivalent to (non-staggered) graphite
( layer) that has undergone a zero gap semiconductor to a superconductor
phase transition by a large c-axis (chemical) pressure due to layers.
Further, like the \ppi bonded planar organic molecules, graphite is an old
resonating valence bond (RVB) system. The RVB's are the `preexisting cooper
pairs' in the `parental' zero gap semiconducting (graphite) sheets that
manifests themselves as a superconducting ground state of the transformed
