Anti-chiral edge states in an exciton polariton strip
We present a scheme to obtain anti-chiral edge states in an exciton-polariton
honeycomb lattice with strip geometry, where the modes corresponding to both
edges propagate in the same direction. Under resonant pumping the effect of a
polariton condensate with nonzero velocity in one linear polarization is
predicted to tilt the dispersion of polaritons in the other, which results in
an energy shift between two Dirac cones and the otherwise flat edge states
become tilted. Our simulations show that due to the spatial separation from the
bulk modes the edge modes are robust against disorder.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
The Design for a Nanoscale Single-Photon Spin Splitter
We propose using the effective spin-orbit interaction of light in
Bragg-modulated cylindrical waveguides for the effcient separation of spin-up
and spin-down photons emitted by a single photon emitter. Due to the spin and
directional dependence of photonic stopbands in the waveguides, spin-up (down)
photon propagation in the negative (positive) direction along the waveguide
axis is blocked while the same photon freely propagates in the opposite

Pump-induced Exceptional Points in Lasers
We demonstrate that the above-threshold behavior of a laser can be strongly
affected by exceptional points which are induced by pumping the laser
nonuniformly. At these singularities, the eigenstates of the non-Hermitian
operator which describes the lasing modes coalesce. In their vicinity, the
laser may turn off even when the overall pump power deposited in the system is
increased. Such signatures of a pump- induced exceptional point can be

Poster PresentationThe paper investigates the conditions on and directionality of cross-linguistic influence in bilingual acquisition by looking at the development of right-dislocation in Cantonese-English bilingual children. Hulk and Müller (2000) hypothesize two conditions on cross-linguistic influence in bilingual acquisition: (1) the structure involves the interface of two modules of grammar and (2) the structure in which cross-linguistic influence occurs is one where two languages overlap. Shear viscosity, instability and the upper bound of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant
We compute the dimensionality dependence of for charged black branes
with Gauss-Bonnet correction. We find that both causality and stability
constrain the value of Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant to be bounded by 1/4 in
the infinite dimensionality limit. We further show that higher dimensionality
stabilize the gravitational perturbation. The stabilization of the perturbation
in higher dimensional space-time is a straightforward consequence of the

Recurrent Fully Convolutional Neural Networks for Multi-slice MRI Cardiac Segmentation
In cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, fully-automatic segmentation of the
heart enables precise structural and functional measurements to be taken, e.g.
from short-axis MR images of the left-ventricle. In this work we propose a
recurrent fully-convolutional network (RFCN) that learns image representations
from the full stack of 2D slices and has the ability to leverage inter-slice
spatial dependences through internal memory units. RFCN combines anatomical
detection and segmentation into a single architecture that is trained
end-to-end thus significantly reducing computational time, simplifying the
segmentation pipeline, and potentially enabling real-time applications. We
report on an investigation of RFCN using two datasets, including the publicly
available MICCAI 2009 Challenge dataset. Comparisons have been carried out
between fully convolutional networks and deep restricted Boltzmann machines,
including a recurrent version that leverages inter-slice spatial correlation.
Our studies suggest that RFCN produces state-of-the-art results and can
substantially improve the delineation of contours near the apex of the heart.Comment: MICCAI Workshop RAMBO 201
Predicting leptonic CP violation in the light of Daya Bay result
In the light of the recent Daya Bay result the reactor angle is about 9
degrees, we reconsider the model presented in arXiv:1005.3482 showing that,
when all neutrino oscillation parameters are taken at their best fit values of
Schwetz et al and the reactor angle to be the central value of Daya Bay, the
