The M2/M5 BPS Partition Functions from Supergravity
In the framework of the AdS/CFT duality, we calculate the supersymmetric
partition function of the superconformal field theories living in the world
volume of either -branes or -branes. We used the dual
supergravity partition function in a saddle point approximation over
supersymmetric Black Holes. Since our BHs are written in asymptotically global
co-ordinates, the dual SCFTs are in for . The
resulting partition function shows phase transitions, constraints on the phase
space and allowed us to identify unstable BPS Black hole in the phase.
These configurations should correspond to unstable configurations in the dual
theory. We also report an intriguing relation between the most general Witten
Index, computed in the above theories, and our BPS partition functions.Comment: 9 pages, 2 columns, 4 figures, revtex, typos corrected, reference

Super-Yang-Mills and M5-branes
We uplift 5-dimensional super-Yang-Mills theory to a 6-dimensional gauge
theory with the help of a space-like constant vector , whose norm
determines the Yang-Mills coupling constant. After the localization of
the 6D gauge theory acquires Lorentzian invariance as well as scale invariance.
We discuss KK states, instantons and the flux quantization. The 6D theory
admits extended solutions like 1/2 BPS `strings' and monopoles.Comment: 15 pages; minor changes, to appear in JHE
Branes from a non-Abelian (2,0) tensor multiplet with 3-algebra
In this paper, we study the equations of motion for non-Abelian N=(2,0)
tensor multiplets in six dimensions, which were recently proposed by Lambert
and Papageorgakis. Some equations are regarded as constraint equations. We
employ a loop extension of the Lorentzian three-algebra (3-algebra) and examine
the equations of motion around various solutions of the constraint equations.
The resultant equations take forms that allow Lagrangian descriptions. We find
various (5+d)-dimensional Lagrangians and investigate the relation between them
from the viewpoint of M-theory duality.Comment: 44+1 pages, reference added, typos corrected, and several discussions

Infrared stability of ABJ-like theories
We consider marginal deformations of the superconformal ABJM/ABJ models which
preserve N=2 supersymmetry. We determine perturbatively the spectrum of fixed
points and study their infrared stability. We find a closed line of fixed
points which is IR stable. The fixed point corresponding to the ABJM/ABJ models
is stable under marginal deformations which respect the original SU(2)xSU(2)
invariance, while deformations which break this group destabilize the theory
which then flows to a less symmetric fixed point. We discuss the addition of
flavor degrees of freedom. We prove that in general a flavor marginal
superpotential does not destabilize the system in the IR. An exception is
represented by a marginal coupling which mixes matter charged under different
gauge sectors. Finally, we consider the case of relevant deformations which
should drive the system to a strongly coupled IR fixed point recently
investigated in arXiv:0909.2036 [hep-th].Comment: 1+11 pages, 4 figures; v2: minor correction
Constructing Self-Dual Strings
We present an ADHMN-like construction which generates self-dual string
solutions to the effective M5-brane worldvolume theory from solutions to the
Basu-Harvey equation. Our construction finds a natural interpretation in terms
of gerbes, which we develop in some detail. We also comment on a possible
extension to stacks of multiple M5-branes.Comment: 1+19 pages, presentation improved, minor corrections, published

Influence of a Feshbach resonance on the photoassociation of LiCs
We analyse the formation of ultracold 7Li133Cs molecules in the rovibrational
ground state through photoassociation into the B1Pi state, which has recently
been reported [J. Deiglmayr et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 101, 133004 (2008)].
Absolute rate constants for photoassociation at large detunings from the atomic
asymptote are determined and are found to be surprisingly large. The
photoassociation process is modeled using a full coupled-channel calculation
for the continuum state, taking all relevant hyperfine states into account. The
enhancement of the photoassociation rate is found to be caused by an `echo' of
the triplet component in the singlet component of the scattering wave function
at the inner turning point of the lowest triplet a3Sigma+ potential. This
perturbation can be ascribed to the existence of a broad Feshbach resonance at
low scattering energies. Our results elucidate the important role of couplings
in the scattering wave function for the formation of deeply bound ground state
molecules via photoassociation.Comment: Added Erratum, 20 pages, 9 figure
N=8 superconformal gauge theories and M2 branes
Based on recent developments, in this letter we find 2+1 dimensional gauge
theories with scale invariance and N=8 supersymmetry. The gauge theories are
defined by a Lagrangian and are based on an infinite set of 3-algebras,
constructed as an extension of ordinary Lie algebras. Recent no-go theorems on
the existence of 3-algebras are circumvented by relaxing the assumption that
the invariant metric is positive definite. The gauge group is non compact, and
its maximally compact subgroup can be chosen to be any ordinary Lie group,
under which the matter fields are adjoints or singlets. The theories are parity
invariant and do not admit any tunable coupling constant. In the case of SU(N)
the moduli space of vacua contains a branch of the form (R^8)^N/S_N. These
properties are expected for the field theory living on a stack of M2 branes.Comment: 14 pages, no figure
Interaction between M2-branes and Bulk Form Fields
We construct the interaction terms between the world-volume fields of
multiple M2-branes and the 3- and 6-form fields in the context of ABJM theory
with U()U() gauge symmetry. A consistency check is made in the
simplest case of a single M2-brane, i.e, our construction matches the known
effective action of M2-brane coupled to antisymmetric 3-form field. We show
that when dimensionally reduced, our couplings coincide with the effective
action of D2-branes coupled to R-R 3- and 5-form fields in type IIA string
theory. We also comment on the relation between a coupling with a specific
6-form field configuration and the supersymmetry preserving mass deformation in
ABJM theory.Comment: 30 pages, version to appear in JHE
(1,0) superconformal theories in six dimensions and Killing spinor equations
We solve the Killing spinor equations of 6-dimensional (1,0) superconformal
theories in all cases. In particular, we derive the conditions on the fields
imposed by the Killing spinor equations and demonstrate that these depend on
the isotropy group of the Killing spinors. We focus on the models proposed by
Samtleben et al in \cite{ssw} and find that there are solutions preserving 1,2,
4 and 8 supersymmetries. We also explore the solutions which preserve 4
supersymmetries and find that many models admit string and 3-brane solitons as
expected from the M-brane intersection rules. The string solitons are smooth
regulated by the moduli of instanton configurations.Comment: 26 page
