Erarbeitung eines europaeischen Standards fuer ein digitales terrestrisches Tonrundfunksystem Abschlussbericht zu DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting). Phase 1

A European project on the digital terrestrial distribution of high-quality audiosignals was started in view of the success of digital techniques. While similar efforts have been made in the U.S.A. during the last two years, little has been done so far in Japan. This study contributes to the definition of DAB, and especially to the development of suitable parameters for such a system. Answers to various questions were found owing to complex simulations and the implementation of suitable hardware. Well-founded knowledge was acquired of the behavior of DAB systems and of the derived system parameters. The system parameters established in agreement with the European partners resulted in a technically mature and promising digital terrestrial broadcasting system which will replace the present FM-VHF system over the medium term.
