Effect of the Metallization on the Resonances of THz Fishnet Metamaterials

In this numerical study, the influence of the choice of metal (and hence of the conductivity) used for the fabrication of THz fishnet metamaterials is investigated. We explore an exemplary structure for which surface-plasmon-polaritons offer – assuming sufficiently good conductivity – pronounced extraordinary transmission and strong multiple magnetic resonances with negative permeability. We analyze the dependence of these signatures on the type of metallization. Studying five different metals, we find that the metallization is important for achieving the multiple resonances. A reduction of the conductivity can lead to a dramatic weakening and even a near-disappearance of magnetic resonances if they lose their diamagnetic character

Photon-energy dissipation caused by an external electric circuit in "virtual" photo-excitation processes

We consider generation of an electrical pulse by an optical pulse in the ``virtual excitation'' regime. The electronic system, which is any electro-optic material including a quantum well structure biased by a dc electric field, is assumed to be coupled to an external circuit. It is found that the photon frequency is subject to an extra red shift in addition to the usual self-phase modulation, whereas the photon number is conserved. Features of water chemical composition of oligotrophic and eutrophic bogs in the South of the Tomsk region

On the basis of the actual material the analysis of chemical composition of bog waters in the territory of the South of the Tomsk region is carried out. The data on average concentration of macro and trace components, organic matter, pH of bog waters are obtained. Significant distinctions in a chemical composition of surface water for different types of bogs are revealed.
