Two problems on flows in low permeability reservoirs were posed. One of the problems is on radial axi-symmetric flows with a threshold pressure gradient and the other is on radial flows in a compressible medium. The main objective of the exercise is to obtain exact or approximate solutions. We summarize the discussion on one of the two problems, flows in a slightly compressible medium
Temperature control by laminar flows
We have demonstrated that given the inlet temperature, the procedure of using the heat transfer coefficient or the cooling region lengths to control the surface temperature is well-posed and the iterative procedure converges rapidly. An analysis on a slightly simpler problem using a Neumann condition with a primary cooling region also showed that the problem is indeed well-posed
How do Securities Laws Influence Affect, Happiness, & Trust?
This Article advocates that securities regulators promulgate rules based upon taking into consideration their impacts upon investors\u27 and others\u27 affect, happiness, and trust. Examples of these impacts are consumer optimism, financial stress, anxiety over how thoroughly securities regulators deliberate over proposed rules, investor confidence in securities disclosures, market exuberance, social moods, and subjective well-being. These variables affect and are affected by traditional financial variables, such as consumer debt, expenditures, and wealth; corporate investment; initial public offerings; and securities market demand, liquidity, prices, supply, and volume. This Article proposes that securities regulators can and should evaluate rules based upon measures of affect, happiness, and trust in addition to standard observable financial variables. This Article concludes that the organic statutes of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission are indeterminate despite mandating that federal securities laws consider efficiency among other goals. This Article illustrates analysis of affective impacts of these financial regulatory policies: mandatory securities disclosures; gun-jumping rules for publicly registered offerings; financial education or literacy campaigns; statutory or judicial default rules and menus; and continual reassessment and revision of rules. These regulatory policies impact and are impacted by investors\u27 and other people\u27s affect, happiness, and trust. Thus, securities regulators can and should evaluate such affective impacts to design effective legal policy
X-rays from the Eclipsing Millisecond Pulsar PSR J1740-5340 in the Globular Cluster NGC 6397
The millisecond pulsar PSR J1740-5340 in the globular cluster NGC 6397 shows
radio eclipses over ~40% of its binary orbit. A first Chandra observation
revealed indications for the X-ray flux being orbit dependent as well. In this
work we analysed five data sets of archival Chandra data taken between 2000 and
2007 in order to investigate the emission across the pulsar's binary orbit.
Utilizing archival Chandra observations of PSR J1740-5340, we have performed a
systematic timing and spectral analysis of this binary system. Using a
chi-square-test the significance for intra-binary orbital modulation is found
to be between 88.5% and 99.6%, depending on the number of phase bins used to
construct the light curve. Applying the unbiased statistical Kolmogorov-Smirnov
(KS) test did not indicate any significant intra-binary orbital modulation,
though. However, comparing the counting rates observed at different epochs a
flux variability on times scales of days to years is indicated. The possible

Automatic emotional state detection using facial expression dynamic in videos
In this paper, an automatic emotion detection system is built for a computer or machine to detect the emotional state from facial expressions in human computer communication. Firstly, dynamic motion features are extracted from facial expression videos and then advanced machine learning methods for classification and regression are used to predict the emotional states.
The system is evaluated on two publicly available datasets, i.e. GEMEP_FERA and AVEC2013, and satisfied performances are achieved in comparison with the baseline results provided. With this emotional state detection capability, a machine can read the facial expression of its user automatically. This technique can be integrated into applications such as smart robots, interactive games and smart surveillance systems
