    Temperature dependence and resonance effects in Raman scattering of phonons in NdFeAsOx_{x}F1−x_{1-x} single crystals

    We report plane-polarized Raman scattering spectra of iron oxypnictide superconductor NdFeAsO1−x_{1-x}Fx_x single crystals with varying fluorine xx content. The spectra exhibit sharp and symmetrical phonon lines with a weak dependence on fluorine doping xx. The temperature dependence does not show any phonon anomaly at the superconducting transition. The Fe related phonon intensity shows a strong resonant enhancement below 2 eV. We associate the resonant enhancement to the presence of an interband transition around 2 eV observed in optical conductivity. Our results point to a rather weak coupling between Raman-active phonons and electronic excitations in iron oxypnictides superconductors.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.

    Superconductivity at 36 K in Gadolinium-arsenide Oxides GdO1−x_{1-x}Fx_{x}FeAs

    In this paper we report the fabrication and superconducting properties of GdO1−x_{1-x}Fx_{x}FeAs. It is found that when x is equal to 0.17, GdO0.83_{0.83}F0.17_{0.17}FeAs is a superconductor with the onset transition temperature Tcon≈_{c}^{on}\approx 36.6K. Resistivity anomaly near 130K was observed for all samples up to x = 0.17, such a phenomenon is similar to that of LaO1−x_{1-x}Fx_{x}FeAs. Hall coefficient indicates that GdO0.83_{0.83}F0.17_{0.17}FeAs is conducted by electron-like charge carriers.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figure

    Lasing oscillation condition and group delay control in gain-assisted plasmon-induced transparency

    A gain-assisted plasmonic waveguide with two detuned resonators is investigated in the plasmon-induced transparency window. Phase map is employed to study power transmittance and group delay for varying gain coefficients and frequency detunings of the two resonators. The gain coefficient for lasing oscillation condition is analytically shown to vary quadratically with the frequency detuning. In the amplification regime below the lasing threshold, the spectrum implies not only large group delay, but also high transmittance and narrow linewidth. This is in contrast to those in the loss-compensation regime and the passive case in which there always exists a trade-off between the linewidth and the peak transmittance.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figure

    Superconductivity in Ti-doped Iron-Arsenide Compound Sr4Cr0.8Ti1.2O6Fe2As2

    Superconductivity was achieved in Ti-doped iron-arsenide compound Sr4Cr0.8Ti1.2O6Fe2As2 (abbreviated as Cr-FeAs-42622). The x-ray diffraction measurement shows that this material has a layered structure with the space group of \emph{P4/nmm}, and with the lattice constants a = b = 3.9003 A and c = 15.8376 A. Clear diamagnetic signals in ac susceptibility data and zero-resistance in resistivity data were detected at about 6 K, confirming the occurrence of bulk superconductivity. Meanwhile we observed a superconducting transition in the resistive data with the onset transition temperature at 29.2 K, which may be induced by the nonuniform distribution of the Cr/Ti content in the FeAs-42622 phase, or due to some other minority phase.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figure

    Measurement of a Sign-Changing Two-Gap Superconducting Phase in Electron-Doped Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2 Single Crystals using Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy

    Scanning tunneling spectroscopic studies of Ba(Fe1−xCox)2As2Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2 (x = 0.06, 0.12) single crystals reveal direct evidence for predominantly two-gap superconductivity. These gaps decrease with increasing temperature and vanish above the superconducting transition TcT_c. The two-gap nature and the slightly doping- and energy-dependent quasiparticle scattering interferences near the wave-vectors (±π,0)(\pm \pi, 0) and (0,±π)(0, \pm \pi) are consistent with sign-changing ss-wave superconductivity. The excess zero-bias conductance and the large gap-to-TcT_c ratios suggest dominant unitary impurity scattering.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures. Paper accepted for publication in Physical Review Letters.     Testing of steel roof deck construction

    INTRODUCTION In recent years, insulated steel roof deck construction has been widely used in industrial and commercial buildings. The use of roof assembly consisting of 3-in. deep, 22-gage, steel deck is being considered by Rooftex, Inc. of Houston, Texas, for Class 1-60 and Class 1-90 assemblies. At the request of Rooftex, two types of tests were conducted at the University of Missouri-Rolla in July 1983. These tests, which consisted of physical tests of steel roof decks and uplift pressure tests of insulated steel roof deck construction, were conducted to obtain the necessary data for the approval of the Factory Mutual Research Corporation. Descriptions of the test setups,procedures used for the tests, and the test results are included in the First Progress Report. l In December 1983, two additional uplift pressure tests of insulated steel roof deck construction were conducted at the University of Missouri-Rolla. Compared with the roof assemblies tested in July 1983, the samples tested in the second phase of the program were fabricated in a different manner, and a different arrangement of the insulation boards and fasteners was used. This report contains a description of the test setup and procedures used for the tests conducted in December 1983 and presents the results obtained. Section II deals with the details of the two uplift pressure tests, and a conclusion is presented in Section III
