Radiative stability of neutrino-mass textures

Neutrino-mass textures proposed at high-scales are known to be unstable against radiative corrections especially for nearly degenerate eigen values. Within the renormalization group constraints we find a mechanism in a class of gauge theories which guarantees reproduction of any high-scale texture at low energies with radiative stability. We also show how the mechanism explains solar and atmospheric neutrino anomalies through the bimaximal texture at high scale.Comment: 4 pages REVTEX, 1 Postscript fi

A study of effect of oral PGE1 and cervical PGE2 on induction of labor and mode of delivery

Background: Induction of labor is one of the most important procedures done by the Obstetricians. Induction of labor with the help of prostaglandins offer the advantage of promoting cervical ripening along with stimulating the contractility of the myometrium.Methods: 200 pregnant women with singleton pregnancy both nulliparous and multiparous, were included in the study at term gestation (>39weeks) with Bishop’s score <6, and reactive NST. The subjects were divided in to two groups Group A including patients who were given oral PGE1 - 50 mcg Tab, and Group B with cervical PGE2, 0.5 mg, gel. The outcome indicators were recorded in both Group A and Group B and analyzed. The mean time taken from induction to vaginal delivery in Group A was 628±67 minutes and in Group B was 839±118 minutes. Incidence of LSCS in Group B when compared to Group A (p value <0.005).Results: Incidence of LSCS in Primi’s in Group B compared to Primi’s in Group A was statistically significant (p value 0.009). Non-progression of labor was observed to be the major indication for LSCS in Group B. Meconium stained labor was found to be the major indication for LSCS in Group A.Conclusions: The study concludes that using 50 mcg oral misoprostol, is an effective and safe mode of induction of labor in comparison to PGE2 gel. Vaginal deliveries are more with the use of oral misoprostol and the induction to delivery interval is also lesser than that in cervical PGE2 use

Single Field Baryogenesis

We propose a new variant of the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis mechanism in which a rolling scalar field couples directly to left- and right-handed neutrinos, generating a Dirac mass term through neutrino Yukawa interactions. In this setup, there are no explicitly CP violating couplings in the Lagrangian. The rolling scalar field is also taken to be uncharged under the $B - L$ quantum numbers. During the phase of rolling, scalar field decays generate a non-vanishing number density of left-handed neutrinos, which then induce a net baryon number density via electroweak sphaleron transitions.Comment: 4 pages, LaTe

Magnetic and humidity sensing properties of nanostructured Cu[x]Co[1-x]Fe2O4 synthesized by auto combustion technique

Magnetic nanomaterials (23-43 nm) of Cu$_x$Co$_{1-x}$Fe$_2$O$_4$\ (x = 0.0, 0.5 and 1.0) were synthesized by auto combustion method. The crystallite sizes of these materials were calculated from X-ray diffraction peaks. The band observed in Fourier transform infrared spectrum near 575 cm$^{-1}$ in these samples confirm the presence of ferrite phase. Conductivity measurement shows the thermal hysteresis and demonstrates the knee points at 475$^o$C, 525$^o$C and 500$^o$C for copper ferrite, cobalt ferrite and copper-cobalt mixed ferrite respectively. The hystersis M-H loops for these materials were traced using the Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) and indicate a significant increase in the saturation magnetization (M$_s$) and remanence (M$_r$) due to the substitution of Cu$^{2+}$ ions in cobalt ferrite, while the intrinsic coercivity (H$_c$) was decreasing. Sertraline induced hyponatremia

A 53 year old female patient with a history of carcinoma of the breast in remission and dilated cardiomyopathy on treatment was newly diagnosed with depression. She was started on Sertraline 50mg once a day. 2 days later she developed severe hyponatremia (serum sodium 114mEq/l). Her condition further deteriorated and on the 6th day her medication was stopped and replaced with mirtazapine. Osmolality studies she was diagnosed with SIADH (Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone secretion). She was treated with IV sodium chloride for her hyponatremia. Seesaw Neutrino Masses with Large Mixings from Dimensional Deconstruction

We demonstrate a dynamical origin for the dimension-five seesaw operator in dimensional deconstruction models. Light neutrino masses arise from the seesaw scale which corresponds to the inverse lattice spacing. It is shown that the deconstructing limit naturally prefers maximal leptonic mixing. Higher-order corrections which are allowed by gauge invariance can transform the bi-maximal into a bi-large mixing. These terms may appear to be non-renormalizable at scales smaller than the deconstruction scale.Comment: Revised version published in PR
