Numerical Renormalization Group Study of non-Fermi-liquid State on Dilute Uranium Systems
We investigate the non-Fermi-liquid (NFL) behavior of the impurity Anderson
model (IAM) with non-Kramers doublet ground state of the f configuration
under the tetragonal crystalline electric field (CEF). The low energy spectrum
is explained by a combination of the NFL and the local-Fermi-liquid parts which
are independent with each other. The NFL part of the spectrum has the same form
to that of two-channel-Kondo model (TCKM). We have a parameter range that the
IAM shows the divergence of the magnetic susceptibility together with
the positive magneto resistance. We point out a possibility that the anomalous
properties of UThRuSi including the decreasing resistivity
with decreasing temperature can be explained by the NFL scenario of the TCKM
type. We also investigate an effect of the lowering of the crystal symmetry. It
breaks the NFL behavior at around the temperature, , where
is the orthorhombic CEF splitting. The NFL behavior is still expected above the
temperature, .Comment: 25 pages, 12 figure
Neutron Scattering Study on Competition between Hidden Order and Antiferromagnetism in U(Ru_{1-x}Rh_x)_2Si_2 (x <= 0.05)
We have performed elastic and inelastic neutron scattering experiments on the
solid solutions U(Ru_{1-x}Rh_x)_2Si_2 for the Ru rich concentrations: x=0,
0.01, 0.02, 0.025, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05. Hidden order is suppressed with
increasing x, and correspondingly the onset temperature T_m (~ 17.5 K at x=0)
of weak antiferromagnetic (AF) Bragg reflection decreases. For x=0.04 and 0.05,
no magnetic order is detected in the investigated temperature range down to 1.4
K. In the middle range, 0.02 <= x <= 0.03, we found that the AF Bragg
reflection is strongly enhanced. At x=0.02, this takes place at ~ 7.7 K (=T_M),
which is significantly lower than T_m (~ 13.7 K). T_M increases with increasing
x, and seems to merge with T_m at x=0.03. If the AF state is assumed to be
homogeneous, the staggered moment \mu_o estimated at 1.4 K increases from
0.02(2) \mu_B/U (x=0) to 0.24(1) \mu_B/U (x=0.02). The behavior is similar to
that observed under hydrostatic pressure (\mu_o increases to ~ 0.25 \mu_B/U at
1.0 GPa), suggesting that the AF evolution induced by Rh doping is due to an
increase in the AF volume fraction. We also found that the magnetic excitation
observed at Q=(1,0,0) below T_m disappears as T is lowered below T_M.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to J. Phys. Soc. Jp
Magnetic-field-induced chiral hidden order in URu2Si2
Two of the most striking and yet unresolved manifestations of the hidden
order (HO) in URu2Si2, are associated on one hand with the double-step
metamagnetic transitions and on the other with the giant anomalous Nernst
signal. Both are observed when a magnetic field is applied along the c-axis.
Here we provide for the first time a unified understanding of these puzzling
phenomena and the related field-temperature (B-T) phase diagram. We demonstrate
that the HO phase at finite fields can be explained with a chiral dxy+idx2-y2
spin density wave, assuming that the zero field HO contains only the
time-reversal symmetry preserving idx2-y2 component. We argue that the presence
of the field-induced chiral HO can be reflected in a distinctive non-linear
B-dependence of the Kerr angle, when a Kerr experiment is conducted for finite
fields. This fingerprint can be conclusive for the possible emergence of
chirality in the HO.Comment: 8 pages and 9 figures main text + 6 pages supplementary material.

Evolution of Heterogeneous Antiferromagnetic State in URu2Si2: Study of Hydrostatic-Pressure, Uniaxial-Stress and Rh-Dope Effects
We have investigated the nature of the competition between hidden order and
antiferromagnetic (AF) order in URu_2Si_2 by performing the neutron scattering
experiments under hydrostatic-pressure P, uniaxial-stress sigma, and
Rh-substitution conditions. Hidden order observed at ambient pressure in pure
URu_2Si_2 is found to be replaced by the AF order by applying P, sigma along
the tetragonal basal plane, and by doping Rh. We discuss these experimental
results on the basis of the crystalline strain calculations, and suggest that
this phase transition is generated by the 0.1% increase of the tetragonal c/a
ratio. We have also found that the magnetic excitation observed in the hidden
order phase vanishes in the AF phase. We show that this variation can be
qualitatively explained by assuming the hidden order parameter to be
quadrupole.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, proceedings of workshop on Novel Pressure-Induced

Weak magnetism phenomena in heavy-fermion superconductors: selected SR studies
The behavior of the so-called weak moment antiferromagnetic states, observed
in the heavy-fermion superconductors UPt and URuSi, is discussed in
view of recent SR results obtained as function of control parameters like
chemical substitution and external pressure. In UPt, the Pd substitution
for Pt reveals the dynamical character of the weak moment order. On the other
hand, SR measurements performed on samples in which Th substitutes U
suggest that crystallographic disorder on the magnetic sites deeply affects the
fluctuation timescale. In URuSi, a phase separation between the
so-called hidden order state, present at ambient pressure, and an
antiferromagnetic state, occurring under pressure, is observed. In view of the
pressure-temperature phase diagram obtained by SR, it is deduced that the
respective order parameters have different symmetries.Comment: To appear in: J. Phys.: Cond. Matte
Interplay between Fermi surface topology and ordering in URuSi revealed through abrupt Hall coefficient changes in strong magnetic fields
Temperature- and field-dependent measurements of the Hall effect of pure and
4 % Rh-doped URuSi reveal low density (0.03 hole/U) high mobility
carriers to be unique to the `hidden order' phase and consistent with an
itinerant density-wave order parameter. The Fermi surface undergoes a series of
abrupt changes as the magnetic field is increased. When combined with existing
de Haas-van Alphen data, the Hall data expose a strong interplay between the
stability of the `hidden order,' the degree of polarization of the Fermi liquid
and the Fermi surface topology.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, Accepted to Phys. Rev. Let
