Russian Statistics Today and Tomorrow

The changes that are taking place in Russian society inevitably affect statistics. The system for collecting and processing mass socioeconomic information must undergo a very serious restructuring. Users of statistical information are largely displeased with the traditionally applied set of indicators that characterize Russia's economic development and the processes within it and frequently the methodology on which such indicators are based as well. There are many who doubt the validity of primary information and the summary data calculated on its basis.

The Yield of Land and the Structure of Investment

One means of accelerating the rate of socioeconomic development is improving investment and structural policy. The acceleration of the nation's development is ultimately manifested in the growth rate of national income. According to calculations, it must grow by at least 4 percent, compared with 3.1 percent during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. (At the present volume of production, the additional percentage point will amount to approximately 6 billion rubles.) Twenty-eight percent of national income is created in agriculture, and the acceleration of [national income] growth naturally depends to a large extent on the rate of that branch's development.

The Balance of Production and Distribution of Output of the Rsfsr (Certain Totals)

One of the main conditions for expanded reproduction at the present stage is the steady raising of the effectiveness of social production on the basis of scientific and technical progress and the accelerated growth of labor productivity. Scientific and technical progress, which penetrates all branches of the national economy and accelerates the division of labor, makes relations in the economy still more complex. The comparison of ex post interbranch balances of production and distribution of output is very important for establishing precise interaction between branches of the national economy and between various regions of the nation. The first such balance was compiled for the USSR as a whole for the year 1959.
