The present study investigates pre-business students’ reaction to Activity Based Learning in a lower division core required course entitled Introduction to Global Business in the business curriculum at California State University Chico.  The study investigates students’ preference for Activity Based Learning in comparison to a more traditional lecture and exam format.  It also investigates whether or not students’ with perceived interests in different aspects of business have preferences for activities that focus on different types of processes.  It further analyzes whether or not gender and class standing play a significant role in these dynamics

THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS IN SMALL DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

The expected benefits from herbicide resistant transgenic rice in Uruguay are estimated with stochastic simulation techniques. Economic surplus methods that account for private profits are used to measure the magnitude and distribution of the benefits between producers and a multinational firm. Further, the adoption rate of transgenic rice is endogenous in the model and depends on the expected profitability of the technology. The results show that the potential benefits from the technology are relatively small because of the small production base. Pseudo-distances on symplectomorphism groups and applications to flux theory

Starting from a given norm on the vector space of exact 1-forms of a compact symplectic manifold, we produce pseudo-distances on its symplectomorphism group by generalizing an idea due to Banyaga. We prove that in some cases (which include Banyaga's construction), their restriction to the Hamiltonian diffeomorphism group is equivalent to the distance induced by the initial norm on exact 1-forms. We also define genuine "distances to the Hamiltonian diffeomorphism group" which we use to derive several consequences, mainly in terms of flux groups.Comment: 21 pages, no figure; v2. various typos corrected, some references added. Evidence for a Young Stellar Population in NGC 5018

Two absorption line indices, Ca II and Hdelta/FeI4045, measured from high resolution spectra are used with evolutionary synthesis models to verify the presence of a young stellar population in NGC 5018. Spanning Trees on Graphs and Lattices in d Dimensions

The problem of enumerating spanning trees on graphs and lattices is considered. We obtain bounds on the number of spanning trees $N_{ST}$ and establish inequalities relating the numbers of spanning trees of different graphs or lattices. A general formulation is presented for the enumeration of spanning trees on lattices in $d\geq 2$ dimensions, and is applied to the hypercubic, body-centered cubic, face-centered cubic, and specific planar lattices including the kagom\'e, diced, 4-8-8 (bathroom-tile), Union Jack, and 3-12-12 lattices. This leads to closed-form expressions for $N_{ST}$ for these lattices of finite sizes. We prove a theorem concerning the classes of graphs and lattices ${\cal L}$ with the property that $N_{ST} \sim \exp(nz_{\cal L})$ as the number of vertices $n \to \infty$, where $z_{\cal L}$ is a finite nonzero constant. This includes the bulk limit of lattices in any spatial dimension, and also sections of lattices whose lengths in some dimensions go to infinity while others are finite. We evaluate $z_{\cal L}$ exactly for the lattices we considered, and discuss the dependence of $z_{\cal L}$ on d and the lattice coordination number. Correlated radio--X-ray variability of Galactic Black Holes: A radio--X-ray flare in Cygnus X-1

We report on the first detection of a quasi-simultaneous radio-X-ray flare of Cygnus X-1. The detection was made on 2005 April 16 with pointed observations by the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer and the Ryle telescope, during a phase where the black hole candidate was close to a transition from the its soft into its hard state. The radio flare lagged the X-rays by approximately 7 minutes, peaking at 3:20 hours barycentric time (TDB 2453476.63864). We discuss this lag in the context of models explaining such flaring events as the ejection of electron bubbles emitting synchrotron radiation.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
