Capital mobility and global factor shocks
© 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reservedThis paper focuses on the effects of global factors on the saving–investment relationship. We prove that, if
investments and savings are affected by idiosyncratic and global components, they must be cointegrated to obtain reliable estimates of the saving-retention coefficient. When global shocks are taken into account throughcommonfactors, wefind that the estimated saving-retention coefficient is close to zero for a panel of 21 OECD countrie
Factorization of weakly continuous holomorphic mappings
We prove a basic property of continuous multilinear mappings between
topological vector spaces, from which we derive an easy proof of the fact that
a multilinear mapping (and a polynomial) between topological vector spaces is
weakly continuous on weakly bounded sets if and only if it is weakly {\it
uniformly\/} continuous on weakly bounded sets. This result was obtained in
1983 by Aron, Herv\'es and Valdivia for polynomials between Banach spaces, and
it also holds if the weak topology is replaced by a coarser one. However, we
show that it need not be true for a stronger topology, thus answering a
question raised by Aron. As an application of the first result, we prove that a
holomorphic mapping between complex Banach spaces is weakly uniformly
continuous on bounded subsets if and only if it admits a factorization of the
form , where is a compact operator and a holomorphic
mapping
Operating and Managing Street Outreach Services
Increasingly, cities have added street outreach to the mix of strategies used in comprehensive gang reduction efforts, drawing upon mounting evidence of impact. Street outreach relies on street workers to support and advocate on behalf of gang members, or those at high risk of joining gang, to change behavior patterns and link them to needed services and institutions. Street outreach workers work day and night to link marginalized and hard-to-serve individuals in communities with high levels of gang activity to social services, and play an important role in diffusing and stopping violence (Decker, Bynum, McDevitt, Farrell, & Varano, 2008; Spergel, 1966; Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention [OJJDP], 2002). These workers reach out to targeted community members at their homes, community events, on street corners, in parks, and in any neighborhood spaces where community members in gangs or at risk of joining gangs spend time (OJJDP, 2002, p. 54). Outreach workers often possess intimate familiarity with the communities in which they work. Their knowledge and skills allow them to work with individuals whom traditional service providers cannot access or support. California Cities Gang Prevention Network cities (the Network or CCGPN) note that street outreach services are an important piece of their cities' primary intervention strategies, with ties to prevention and enforcement. This bulletin identifies ways outreach programs can strategically support, care for, and hire outreach workers
On closing for flows on 2-manifolds
For some full measure subset B of the set of iet's (i.e. interval exchange
transformations) the following is satisfied: Let X be a , , vector field, with finitely many singularities, on a compact
orientable surface M. Given a nontrivial recurrent point of X, the
holonomy map around p is semi-conjugate to an iet If
then there exists a vector field Y, arbitrarily close to X, in
the topology, such that Y has a closed trajectory passing through p.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur
International R&D Spillovers and Productivity Growth in the Agricultural Sector A Panel Cointegration Approach
This paper analyses, within the new growth theory framework and using panel cointegration techniques, the effect of agricultural international technological spillovers on total factor productivity growth for a sample of 47 countries during the period 1970-1992. The analysis shows that total factor productivity is strongly influenced by domestic as well as foreign public R&D spending in agricultural sector and geographical factors matters. Countries located in temperate zones benefit more than countries located in tropical zones from technological spillovers. Finally, the analysis shows that the rate of return to agricultural R&D spending is higher in tropical countries and this could justify new support and an even greater investment of funds for agricultural R&D for these countries.Technology spillover, agricultural productivity, panel cointegration, Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies, C14, O30, Q16,
Stellar Population Challenge: analysis of M67 with the VO
In this poster we present the analysis of the CMD of M67 (proposed in the
Stellar Population Challenge) performed with VO applications. We found that,
although the VO environment is still not ready to perform a complete analysis,
its use provides highly useful additional information for the analysis. Thanks
to the current VO framework, we are able to identify stars in the provided CMD
that are not suitable for isochrone fitting. Additionally, we can complete our
knowledge of this cluster extending the analysis to IR colors, which were not
provided in the original data but that are available thanks to the VO. On the
negative side, we find it difficult to access theoretical data from VO
applications, so, currently, it is not possible to perform completely the
analysis of the cluster inside the VO framework. However it is expected that
the situation will improve in a near future.Comment: Stellar Populations as Building Blocks of Galaxies, Proceedings of
