Prioritization of areas in China for the conservation of endangered birds using modelled geographical distributions

We developed distributional models for 90 threatened bird species in China, and used heuristic complementarity algorithms to prioritize areas for conservation. The pixel-based area selection prioritized 20 areas for protection, which covered all species analysed. Area selecting for endangered species based on the existing biosphere reserve system included only 37–62 species in eleven reserves, leaving 28–53 species unprotected. We employed algorithms for area selection based on species richness and rarity and obtained two views of a most efficient reserve network. We used the distributional hypotheses to identify additions to the reserve system that would improve its effectiveness substantially. The pixel-based area selection approach includes species much more efficiently on a per-area basis, and thus offers exciting perspectives for improved protection of the country’s endangered avifauna

AbstractTo realize automatic management of navigation-aids, this paper presented an idea of navigation-aids inspection using video surveillance technology. It was aimed at solving problems of navigation-aids inspection and maintenance mode. It analyzed the current status of navigation-aids inspection and maintenance in areas, and researched the development and application of video surveillance technology. The results indicated that navigation-aids inspection and maintenance with video surveillance can better improve work efficiency, save costs and protect the quality of navigation-aids service

Service Selection of Ensuring Transactional Reliability and QoS for Web Service Composition

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) provides a flexible framework of service composition. Using standard-based protocols, composite service can be constructed by integrating component services independently. As component services are developed by different organization and offer diverse transactional properties and QoS characteristics, it is a challenging problem how to select suitable component services which ensure reliable execution of composite Web service and construct the optimal composite Web service. In this paper, we propose a selection approach that combines transactional properties of ensuring reliability and QoS characteristics. In the selection approach, we build automaton model to implement transactional-aware service selection and use the model to guarantee reliable execution of composite Web service. We also define aggregation functions, and use a Multiple-Attribute Decision-Making approach for the utility function to achieve Qos-based optimal service selection. Finally, two scenarios of experiments are presented to demonstrate the validity of the selection approach
